The Reappearance of Rachel Price

My expectations for this book were very high, seeing as I loved the AGGGTM trilogy so much, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed 🫣 It's not that this is a bad book, I had so much fun reading it, the premise was good and it was very entertaining. Some scenes gave me anxiety, they were dark and tense, which is something I appreciate when it comes to thrillers. But the ending wasn't what I expected, it was a bit campy and I’m still unsure how I feel about it 😶
The book started out amazing, I honestly thought it was going to be a 5 star read. It grabbed me from the start and I was immediately invested in the story.
જ⁀ the plot: Rachel Price has been missing for 16 years. Her daughter, Bel, is the only witness to her disappearance, but she was just a baby at the time, so she doesn't remember what happened or who took her mum. Rachel's case is a mystery and a documentary is being made about her disappearance, so imagine the shock when she, out of a sudden, reappears. The story starts from there and we slowly find out the truth about what happened 16 years ago. Along the way, we also see how the Price family deals with Rachel's reappearance.
Like I said, I really enjoyed the plot, I found the premise so interesting. However, a large chunk of the book was slow paced, not much was going on because it was just Bel trying to find out what happened to her mother. It was a bit boring and I definitely felt the book was too long 🫠 Personally I would have cut some parts because they didn't add anything to the story. It was about 70% into the book that things started to pick up, there was more action and a lot of plot twists. Some of them weren't too surprising, but I was definitely caught off guard a few times. But that was also when the plot got too wild for me, and not in a good way. Crazy things happened, it was just too much. I just didn't expect it, it was very unrealistic and I didn't like how it all unfolded.
Everyone in the Price family is fucked up!! I won't bother talking about all of them, but I want to talk about Bel. I think a lot of people who read this book are going to hate her, which I can understand, she's an unlikable character. But I loved her, she's a breath of fresh air, she felt so real and relatable to me. Yes, she's annoying sometimes and I wanted to scream at some of the things she did, but she lived in Rachel's shadow all her life, she's got a lot of trust issues, she's got a fear of abandonment (understandable). Bel is the kind of person who pushes people away first because she's convinced that they'll leave her eventually, which I think it’s so sad 🥺 So I get why she acted the way she did.
There's a bit of romance, if I can call it that, which I thought was unnecessary. Ash was cute, but I don't know why Holly thought it was a good idea to add a romantic aspect to his "relationship" with Bel 💀
Overall, the book was good, but it could have been so much better if Holly had kept the story a little more realistic. I don’t know, everything wrapped up so perfectly and I’m not a fan of that.

don’t read this if you haven’t read the book yet
- the motive for Rachel’s disappearance was so lame, in my opinion.
- it was insane how both Charlie and Jeff died
- Bel spends the whole book claiming Rachel is lying but the moment she finds out the whole truth, she accepts everything her mom says, without doubts. I mean, she finally had proof that Rachel wasn’t lying, but she switched sides so quickly
- it’s ridiculous how Bel was ready to watch her dad die. Like I would’ve been in shock if that was my dad and I found out I’d been living with a psycho my whole life, but Bel loved her dad so much, he was the only constant in her life and suddenly she hated him and didn’t care if he died. wtf?
-Carter being Rachel's daughter was bonkers.
-although I don't think Rachel deserved to go to jail for what she did, I mean, she had every right to get her revenge, it was a little too much, the way everything worked out perfectly.
-Sherry didn't even put up a fight when Rachel told her to leave. She left, just like that
