I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would! 🫶🫶 Holly Jackson is the QUEEN of ya thrillers and mysteries 😌🩷
Tropes:
🎬 Ya mystery
🎬 Third person narration
🎬 Lots of twists & turns
I was sooo excited to see holly jackson would be releasing a new book bc I loved agggtm and five survive. The amount of negative reviews this one was getting was only really terrifying- but I actually really enjoyed it!✨️
“The people who loved you, the ones who really cared, they would always come back. Sometimes, they even came back from the dead.
ೃ⁀ Writing & plot:
Like I said, i’m a big holly jackson fan and i’ve loved everything i’ve read by her. Her writing is always so good and it was no different in this book! 🌷✨️ Her writing is actually so addictive and i couldn’t put this book down. The way she makes you suspect absolutely everyone and creates this creepy, eerie atmosphere is stunning. Plus the setting of the true crime documentary was sm fun! 🫶🫶
As for the mystery of this book, i really enjoyed it! I liked the way there were small little things that were suspicious at the beginning that eventually built up to the crazy ending. And when i say the ending was crazy, it was CRAZY OMG i was gasping out loud. Holly jackson KNOWS how to write plot twists!! 🤭🤭
The only thing i didn’t love about the plot was the pacing was just a little too slow for my liking. The middle felt quite repetitive to me and also why was this book so long?! Over 400 pages for a ya mystery is a bit much imo 🫣
“Shit, yes, now you mention it, I’ve just suddenly remembered everything and solved the entire case, can you believe it? What a plot twist.
ೃ⁀ Characters:
Honestly, i wasn’t obsessed with the characters in this book, but i still liked them. I honestly think none of holly jackson’s characters will ever live up to pip and ravi ✋️
Bel: honestly. I didn’t really love her. She just felt so prickly and cruel to everyone and while i understand why she was that way, it didn’t excuse it. I found it a bit hard to root for her as a main character 🫣
Ash: omg he was so cute! He was just such a sweet and fun character, and i also how his fashion sense was so weird, but in the best way possible 🥹💐
ೃ⁀ Romance:
Ash & Bel: honestly, i wasn’t obsessed with their romance. It was cute in parts, but i don’t feel like there were enough scenes focused on them for me to get really attached to them as a couple. They are definitely no pipravi 🤷♀
“The name Rachel Price is almost synonymous with mystery. Because her disappearance was like a puzzle, and it’s human nature to want to solve a puzzle, don’t you think?
ೃ⁀ In conclusion:
I’ve seen a lot of people kinda hate on this book, but i personally really liked it and I would recommend if you’re looking for:
✔️ Great writing
✔️ Interesting mystery
✔️ Crazy plot twists
✔️ Ya mystery
I will honestly eat up anything holly jackson releases atp 😌🤍
