did not like it

The struggle was real trying to finish this book. It was SO long and I honestly found it to be quite boring. I have a tough time stopping a book once I start because I’m stubborn and this made me feel like a little kid having to sit down and do homework. I will say that the author himself is talented and that there were some clever ideas within the book but overall, it just wasn’t for me.

h_is_reading I feel you! I was back and forth between finishing the book and ‘dumping the book the whole time! Such a torture to the reader.

Jennifer I’m on page 76 and about to flip a coin if I should continue! Can’t get into it at all.

Buried_in_Fiction I don’t blame you, I know what you’re going through and I’m sorry! I’d say stop for now and start your New Year off on a good note! 🤣

Kathy I read obsessively and I totally agree with your comment that reading this book feels like sitting down to do homework. It’s heading to DNF for me

Emily Amen! You said it much more concisely than I could

Lamis Kobeissi I’m having a difficult time getting into it. I’m almost 200 pages in and still waiting for something “big to happen. It’s boring but I feel like I have to finish it .

Candace Exactly!

Ruth Dunbar I quit this book when it started comparing hyperlinks versus reading books in a linear fashion. I felt I had suffered enough.

Rhonda It has so many rave reviews that I’m wondering what I’m missing!! I’m about ready to toss it, but don’t want to give up too soon.

Julie I’m on page 431 and am forcing myself to keep reading. Excellent writing but boring story. And I’m not invested in any of the characters. They are mean and petty.

Amelia Strongly recommend you keep reading!! Everything has a reason behind it and the book has a beautiful ending.

Sarah Craven My thoughts exactly! I’m on page 80, and so stinking bored. This is the wordiest book I’ve ever read. My new rule this year is if I don’t like it by page 100, I DNF. And I’m pretty sure I’m heading that way. I literally just said to my husband as I picked it up, “let me get out my textbook now LOL.

Amy Koehler Yup. Too many chapters about Facebook. Too much repetition of events & memories. I hate to not finish a book but I bailed on this one. Googled the ending.

kalyerodriguez I 100% agree with this
I’m on page 473 and am just waiting for it to end

Suzanne Eisenhauer God, I’m so bored!! Glad to know I’m not alone. It’s time to move on.

Linda I’m so happy to see your review. What a chore! I attempted to read it twice.

Donna Munchow I came here to read some reviews as I'm struggling to justify to myself if I need to push myself to finish this book. I've read about 40% of the book but not sure I have it in me to finish it.

Amanda Charney I hate abandoning books - especially a novel. But life’s too short and this narrative is too indulgent. Story about marriage and it’s not THAT enlightening (to me). A lot of long-winded navel gazing. I like the cover design though!

Julie Krein I agree with you. I saw how highly it was rated, so wasn't expecting it to be sooo boring. It could have been a good story if it was much shorter.

message 20: by Stacy (new) - rated it 1 star

Stacy Struggled to finish myself. Not the typical books I read so was giving it a chance. Was hopeful for it to pick up but it just wasn’t for me.

Alexandra I’m about halfway through and same. Reading the 5-star reviews makes me wonder if we’re reading the same book. I’ll keep at it a bit longer.

message 22: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I just finished it. Generally, I avoid Oprah's book club choices (find them to be depressing) Anyway, I stuck with it, but by the time I was just over halfway through, I started skimming at a very rapid pace, primarily to see what would happen at the end. Some refer to this as long-form fiction. I have read other long novels (ie Covenant of Water, 736 pages) that were well written and kept your interest, but not this one. As far as the 4-5 star ratings...I am sure publishers figure out a way to make that happen...it sells books.
