it was amazing

Blood, scalps, fighting and killings just another ordinary Western...hardly, Cormac McCarthy could never write anything but in excellence. The story is based on true historical events just after the Mexican War when the United States conquered the southwest, the time from 1849 -1850, the atmosphere enumerates without delineating the flames and carnage of the plot, onwards but very downwards. A teenager with wonder lust from Tennessee called the Kid joins a rough gang led by ferocious, historical John Glanton veteran of the recent war hired by the governor of Chihuahua in Mexico , to kill Apache Indians raiding the territory on both sides of the new border, he will regret that and much more the Mexicans citizens. Scalping the aborigines to prove this however it becomes easier to butcher the innocent.. less dangerous. The second in command judge Holden is the most erudite, bald, rotund and vicious, of them all, the kind of person your back should never be seen by him, the rest of the outlaws no better . Massacres by both groups begin and in reality are ceaseless, if the merciless enemy you have luckily escaped, the exotic, mysterious deserts can seldom be, the pretty, bright land enchants, the wild animals the same, captivating plants also, to those who bring plenty of water, thirst will murder you (like a bullet) with no mercy. The brutal conditions these butchers suffered, they who liked to inflict pain on the helpless without any remorse, the sweltering heat endured, incinerates, just justice a majority of people would say. Soldiers from the north and south 0f the frontier have different colored uniforms, still are aiming for the same target. Mr. McCarthy writing is vague, polished, and brilliant in style but you will need a dictionary for the many obscure words if you're not a geologist or a philologist nevertheless the greatest threat to the reader is the ... relentless savagery, the weak of stomach will not enjoy this classic as they run to the bathroom. A tough narrative beautiful to consume though, the allurement can not be hidden. Yet for many if not most people the quality of the stark book is secondary to the evil shown if that term can still be written today. Finally an interesting description of early San Diego my home town, may not be quite accurate but it is a delight for me to read about.
