"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch..."
My grown children can still immediately complete this phrase when I test them. And I do this often. Chances are, you might be able to complete this also. We are the Tribe of Carl. Our sacred tome - Cosmos. A love letter to that which we understand about our reality, and how we arrived at this knowledge. Cosmos is one of Humanity's greatest contributions to the Encyclopedia Galactica.
Recently, my views about our universe have been slanted towards pessimism mostly due to the convincing The Dark Forest. I need Carl Sagan's optimism and wonder at the grandeur of life and the universe. Give me Contact. Give me Cosmos. Give me some hope.

Agreed, Francisca! Did you watch the newer series? I liked it, but it didn't feel the same without Carl. He was the Mister Rogers of science (Sorry if that reference is too American)

Thanks, Mary! Carl Sagan holds a permanent place of honor on my TBR

He was perhaps the greatest of what might be termed "science communicators", scientists with the ability to make their subject interesting and accessible to the layperson.

I watched here and there but nostalgia didn't let me enjoy it. Cosmos/Sagan was an important influence in me becoming an oceanographer, so the new series felt so blah blah... I couldn't.
Also, Mr Rogers, Internationally known ;^)
Among Sagan's book, The Dragons of Eden is also a favorite of mine (it's feeling old these days but still pretty readable).
