I was really excited about reading Fallen, the cover is absolutely gorgeous and I just had to have it! Luckily I received an ARC, thanks to Random House Children's Books. This is another book that has had a lot of hype recently and, as with Hush Hush, it had a lot to live up to. I have read negative as well as positive reviews, so I went in with a completely open mind, and I wasn't disappointed.

The story starts out a little slow at the beginning and not a lot really happens in the way of action until half way through the book. The days Luce spends at Sword and Cross reform school, where she has been sent after an incident with a fire, which killed her ex-boyfriend, does become a little repetitive and drawn out and all I really wanted was the story to get going. But I think the author was trying to set the scene, give us some really well developed characters and lots of suspense before revealing all. In retrospect, I liked this approach as sometimes a story can move along quickly but then have no depth at all.

There are many characters in Fallen, all of which I think are really well rounded. Even those that are not the main focus still have their own story and you feel they are all central to Luce's life. Although none of the characters are particularly 'dangerous', there is a darkness about Daniel and Cam that is subtle but definitely there. As each character grows and a little more is revealed about them, you realise that there is more to each of them which is not necessarily what you first thought. Nice twists and turns kept my interest and I was very intrigued as to how this book would pan out. The atmosphere is dark and edgy too and each detail of Luce's surroundings is described well and at times I really felt as though I was there.

Luce herself is a nice character. She is interesting and I think she will develop into quite an intriguing female protagonist. Sometimes she is quite witty and feisty, but at other times she can be a little slow on the uptake. But overall, I'm looking forward to seeing how she develops and deals with the revelations which occur at the end of Fallen.

Cam and Daniel, who are the two main love interests for Luce, are both delicious. They are very different from each other and at first I wasn't quite sure who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. As I got to know Daniel, I began to like him more and more and could completely understand why Luce is so captivated, and almost hypnotised, by him. He is gorgeous, and a very sexy fallen angel, *move over Patch!*

Verdict:

The story does take time to get going and is definitely a slow burner, but I think it is well worth the wait, so be patient. The ending is exciting, albeit a bit rushed; maybe a few pages from the beginning would have been better used at the end. I was left with a few questions, but that's okay, as I know there's another book coming, and I can't wait! Fallen is a brilliant read and has set the scene for what I hope will be a very exciting series.

Elnaz yeah, about those questions u still had by the end...i have quite a lot of questions too,and i know i should wait until the next book, but there's one in particular...What was the good news?? why didn't the writer say it?or maybe she did,and i didn't get it?? but i'm still wondering...what was the good news Daniel wanted to tell Luce in the cemetry?do u know the answer?

Carolyn No I don't! I'm hoping the next book will tell me! Did you enjoy it though?

Eye-I I think he said the good news was that they kissed. Before when they usually kissed she would die...

Weasel5 This book was absolute bullshit. Luce was probably the most annoying, IDIOTIC and self-centered protagonist ever. The research for the book was terrible. The characters were boring and i can't seem to figure out which part of this tormenting book was the plot.

LOL So you didn't like it then? ;D I'm surprised you gave it 2/5 if you thought it was so awful.

Kacie I found myself being confused for a majority of the book! Kinda like I knew the plot from reading the description but I was waiting for that 'ta-da' moment to come in the story. Then, we kinda got some information so close to the end of the book that I immediately got Torment because I am still looking for some answers!! LOL
I don't know if I am completely sold on the book, but I don't think it was awful. I think my opinion is gonna be based on the answers book 2 will hopefully provide! I gave it 3.5 because it definitely has me wanting to know what is going to happen next and there is something to be said about that...

Klf Barrett It sucked

Hannah Goodall I just finished reading this book a few days ago and personally really enjoyed it. I am getting the vibes from people that this is like Harry Potter or Twilight. You either love it, or hate it, foe your own understandible reasons. I am really glad someone else out there enjoys this book, and hopefully more will in the future.

Morgan So I've read this book before (it's terrible btw) and I just wanted to see if I was the only one who disliked it and fortunately I was not alone. Then I saw your rating and I was curious so I read and honestly cracked up at the whole 'well rounded characters' bit because Lauren Kate's characters are anything but we'll rounded. I decided you were just one of those people who doesn't read a lot and when they actually do pick up a book they think it is the most amazing thing they have ever read because they don't know what an amazing book is. I was going to simply leave it be but than I read the comments on this and realized people were getting the wrong idea, so this is not for you this is for anyone considering buying this book. If you are going through the comments on a book and see that everybody is giving it one or two stars and than low and behold there's that one person who gives it five stars, for the love of god don't buy the book! Just because one person thinks it's great doesn't mean it is great. Ever heard of majority rules? If ten people think a books terrible and one thinks its fantastic who are you going to side with? Of course you might read it and think it's wonderful and if you do good for you! But if you know your books and have read a good book do not waste your money on this one, I recommend The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare or the Lunar chronicles by Marissa Meyer, those are good books.

Sofia Theos I'm surprised anyone liked this book. It was so awful, like, Halo awful,

Emily Ponder I thought it was good too, and some people are really antsy about it. Just say you didn't like it people and move on!

Mahima i thing this book is amazing...and people are lame enough to think that this book was no sizzle..because frankly it was...everything about daniel and luce is alluring...and any person who likes fantasy and romance would surely like it..i am so haooy with your review

Mahima happy*

Sierra Anna Jo Lynn Neuroth I really love the book at first the 1 book is slow but I really goes up for climax in the other there's a big surprise weighting I loved the series not as much as Hush Hush though

Jaskirat hi

aifosaluna At least there is someone liking the book. Thanks for the review!

Aurore Muse I agree with this review. True, it was slow at the start, but it kept my interest. Cam is probably one of my favorite characters of this series. Personally, I loved this series and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.

Aurore Muse I read the rest of the comments and I just have to say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you loved the book, that's amazing. If you didn't, don't try to tell other people you probably don't know that they won't like it based on your opinion because you don't know and they won't know until they pick it up and read it. Not everyone likes the same things, and that's a hundred percent alright. If we all liked the same things, life would be boring. I have read a lot of negative comments on this book, and that's your opinion. To anyone reading my reviews, I recommend this book. Even if you read it and you don't like it, then just don't buy the rest of the series. But if you love it, I'm happy for you. Personally, this is one of my favorite books and it has inspired me to continue to work towards my dreams when I was lead to believe I couldn't. Also, hush hush and Cassandra Clares novels are good ones too. As well as this trilogy called Die for Me. I highly recommend all these books

Juliasreadingchronicles Yess love your review and love this book!!

Ally Chen Luce was a very badly written character, with no depth, intelligence and common sense whatsoever.
