As soon as I read the blurb for this one, I knew I wouldn’t be able to put off reading it. Damsel in distress, military hero, crazy sociopath? Yep, totally for me! I also thought it was an interesting premise…what if one person, one stranger, was all that stood between you and death?

One text can change everything.

Here's the setup: Honor is violently attacked during her morning run by a stranger. After putting up a fight, her attacker finally overcomes her, puts her unconscious body in his truck, and takes her to an isolated wooded area, where he drops her in a dark, dank hole with these ominous words

I’ll be back

Her attacker doesn’t realize that Honor was able to grab his cell phone before he dropped her into the hole. Hurt, cold, and scared, Honor tries over and over to call for help. Unfortunately, she is unable to reach anyone including 911 because of the poor signal the phone receives.

How did one prepare herself for rape and grisly murder?

Not far away, Nathan’s waiting for his weekly poker game to start. He sends a text message to another play that was supposed to bring the beer but hasn’t shown up yet. His text goes to the phone Honor has and she receives it and responds.

Please help me.

I loved both characters in Text. Nathan was exactly the hero Honor needed. With his experience as a Marine and the ingrained need he had to rescue those that needed it, he was perfection.

I hugged her close, trying not to crush her ribs but unable to gentle my hold. I couldn’t let her go. She was mine. I was keeping her.

And he made me laugh.

(view spoiler)

As much as Nathan was the perfect hero for Honor, Honor was exactly who Nathan needed too.

Honor was the light that flooded my darkness. She was the glasses to my partially blind eyes. Her kisses were like balm to my wounded soul. Her determination to survive even when odds were against her was my wakeup call.

The romance was sweet and I loved that Nathan and Honor were connected before they even met. There was an intrinsic trust between them that seemed really authentic. If you're looking for a really steamy novel, this isn't it. I think the romance/steam was written perfectly for the story and the characters.

He trailed barely there kisses across the extremely tender flesh. Who the hell needed a Band-Aid when he was around?

“I’m sorry, he whispered, looking up. “I’m not the one who did this and I can’t take away the pain, but if I could…

He didn’t finish the sentence, but the unspoken dangled there between us and made me forget every ache that coursed through my body.

In that moment, I fell just a little bit in love with him.

Yes!!

Text is the fourth book in the Take It Off Series and the only one I’ve read. It is a standalone novel. I didn’t realize until after I went back to check what else the author has written that I had the first and second book in the Take It Off series already on my TBR list. I definitely plan to read both soon.

I have to give Text 4.5 STARS just because I liked the story and the characters so much. It was fast paced and was equal parts suspense and romance. Once I started reading it, I didn’t put down until I was finished. Because of the shorter length of the book, there wasn’t a lot of development but it worked perfectly as it was. I really enjoyed the straightforward writing and the pace of the story. I look forward to reading more of this series.
