When she was 12 me and my daughter Georgia went to see Twilight. After the movie I asked her what she thought.

"THAT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER" she said. And she went to see it three more times, with people other than me.

So she bought the book and read it in about four hours. I asked her what she thought.

"THAT WAS THE BEST BOOK EVER" she said.

Then we got the dvd of the movie and she watched it again.

"THAT WAS THE WORST MOVIE EVER" she said. I was surprised but she explained - "Bella is stupid, Edward is stupid, nothing looks right, they miss out all the important stuff, it's so bad, it's so so so bad"

Then she read all the other Twilight books in like four hours.

"NEW MOON IS THE WORST BOOK EVER FOR 200 PAGES AND THEN IT'S THE BEST BOOK EVER" she said. By now she was 13.

A week ago she said

"NEW MOON IS COMING OUT SOON, I'M SO EXCITED, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT, CAN WE GO ON THE VERY FIRST DAY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE"

and I said "But you think Twilight The Movie is stupid".

"Yes, it is stupid" she said "and I can't WAIT to see how bad New Moon is!"

Critics.

***

ps : Now (aged 13) she's going to see the new Robert Pattinson movie Remember Me. I assume that's because he's so hideous and such a bad actor

Ben "Yes, it is stupid" she said "and I can't WAIT to see how bad New Moon is!"

As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. ; )

Manny Hey, what does she say about Breaking Dawn? I already feel a healthy respect for your daughter's insightful comments!

message 3: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant I just asked her (that's her you can hear practising the piano now) and she said it's divided into three and Jacob's part was really tedious, you could have done without it, who wants to know that much about werewolves, but the rest was great and the final scene where Bella lets down her mental shield is so cute. (This sounded like a metaphor for sex to me but it seems by this time she's already had a little vamp baby so i guess she just lets down her mental shield.)

message 4: by Stephen (new)

Stephen This review tells me that the book and movie hits the target audience. What more can a book or a movie ask for?

Manny How interesting! I liked the first and second parts, it was the third one I found disappointing. And I was unimpressed with the bit about the mental shield.

But I clearly need to think more about this. I read the book rather quickly. And when it comes to Twilight, it's the teenage girls who are the real experts...

message 6: by Jessica (new)

Jessica No sleazy talkshow DNA testing necessary for the Bryant family! Georgia definitely Paul's.

Nikki Boisture I don't know you, but your daughter sounds brilliant for her age.

message 8: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant She's an utter delight and she's also on ŷ...

message 9: by Jason (new)

Jason How did you get your daughter to read? I have a 6 yr old that shows absolutely no interest, despite her parents reading more than watching tv. Between the Twilight series and nothing, I chose Twilight. At least she can hate it.

message 10: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant There was a very poignant moment some years ago, I think she was about 8. We got her the first Harry Potter as her first non-picture book. And a week later she said she'd read it. But some months later she shamefacedly confessed that she hadn't, she'd just turned over each page and made sure the spine looked creased. It was a sad and silly moment. However by that time she had actually begun really reading. These days she reads more than me. How did we do it? Mind control, denial of food, just the usual parent stuff.

message 11: by Jason (new)

Jason Copy that, and guess what, methinks my daughter is going to be gorgeous like her mamma, so of course she'll be locked in the attic until she's 23.

Samantha The Escapist is no one else concerned at the thought of a 12 year old reading the whole series?

message 13: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant I just asked Georgia (now one week away from her 14th birthday) if there was anything inappropriate in the twilight series and her reply was

- there's hardly any violence
- there's a little bit of sex but kids ought to have been informed that sex exists by the age of 12
- Bella is a terrible role model
- the whole series might give some young girls a very unrealistic idea of what life has to offer

Eunbit Park i love this review. It's soo funny. She's funny and she's quite right.

message 15: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant Thanks ! Georgia is 14 now and two weeks ago she declared that she is DONE with vampires. I said okay, what's that latest book about which you have just got from Amazon and which has a vampiresque cover? She said : angels.

message 16: by Mattomatto (new)

Mattomatto That is so funny

message 17: by Ian (new)

Ian "Marvin" Graye Before you know it, she'll be a Joss Whedon fan.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

That is really quite funny.

message 19: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant After vampires comes Glee :

message 20: by Pinchy (new) - added it

Pinchy It's a guilty pleasure. I'm 33, think the acting is horrible and the stories are stupid, the "love" outlandishly unrealistic, but I still flashback to age 13 when I read the books.

message 21: by Kathy (new) - rated it 1 star

Kathy Suarez That's so funny, it's almost the same that happened to me! I'm 14 now and I read Twilight when I was 12 because everybody loved it and "It was the best serie of books ever"

I read it and I though it was awesome too, I went to the New Moon premiere and watched Eclipse.

Then I re-read some chapters of all the books, and I am SO done with vampires! Haha. Now I read it and I realize how unreal all the characters are, how dumb is Bella, and how unoriginal and stupid the plot is. A lot of things can change in two years huh?

At this moment I love greek mytology, angels, shadowhunters, and a little bit more of reality, a little less romance and more stuff that actually makes me smarter and teach me stuff haha

Twilight can be read by girls around that age, and I understand what was the atractive we saw on it. But now I think there's really much more than perfect guys, cheesy love stories and girls that can't stand by theirselfs, girls that NEED a man ny their side to be happy, and that lean that much on someone.

But that's just my opinion :)

Does your daughter has a bookreads acount? :)

And Bella IS the worst role model ever! Haha

message 22: by Ian (new)

Ian "Marvin" Graye Well said, Kathy!

message 23: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant Hi Kathy - yes, Georgia has a goodreads account and does review here occasionally, but I'm not her friend here and I try to avoid her on this site! I don't want her reading some of my other reviews and she probably wouldn't take kindly to the way I quote her every so ofter (check out my non-review of the Glee Companion for instance). At the moment she is 15 and trying to figure out what to read after all the YA novels - it's a difficult transition period I think.

Arianna Dubovik Please update us on what she thought about eclipse and breakage dawn books and movies! This was so funny!

message 25: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant Well I just checked and she said her thoughts on seeing Breaking dawn was "look there are all these 12 year olds in this cinema and they should not be seeing this" but as a general comment she says that the Twilight books are really great at brainwashing you into thinking they're good while you're reading them but now she's almost sixteen she's older and wiser.

Natalie D lol this was just like me when I first saw twilight.

message 27: by Aquariana (new)

Aquariana Rose You should be really proud of your daughter for understanding this at such a young age

message 28: by Paul (last edited Dec 10, 2012 12:32AM) (new) - added it

Paul Bryant she's on grade 4 piano now, plays the guitar and ukulele and paints beautiful pictures! it is amazing when your own children are able to do things you yourself could nver do, and with ease too. Time rushes rudely by. I wish i could slow it down.

well being the skilled, full of interests girl that she is, I can see why she wouldn't relate to an empty character like Bella. Good.

Katie K hahaah oh my gosh that was me!i thought it was such a good movie and now i have read the books.By the end of the last movie, i felt like i had wasted the past few years to finish the series and movies.

message 31: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant Georgia will sympathise with you! So many hours watching and reading about sparkly vampires.

message 32: by Riku (new)

Riku Sayuj Hey I want to read her reviews over here. Sign her up. Perfect critic. :)

message 33: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant She actually is on GR. But we steer clear of each other! (oh, she is on youtube too...)

message 34: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Cole The only review of a Twilight book I have ever read because I had a feeling it would be interesting :-)

message 35: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant I hope it was!

message 36: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Cole Of course it was :-)

message 37: by The (new) - rated it 3 stars

The Hunger I read twilight when I was 10 I thought it was great then I saw the movie it was ok but I agree they so messed it up and I only saw the others to see how much they improved or screwed up new moon

message 38: by The (new) - rated it 3 stars

The Hunger The books are good though and don't ever criticise Robert Pattinson!

message 39: by Ilona (new)

Ilona E. Reading through these comments, I kinda feel like I just watched your daughter grow up. XD Fun review - it's a very interesting perspective, especially since it's from the target audience over a few years.

message 40: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant This little girl is now in an acoustic band and will be on her way to university next year. She's all growed up! It's so sad! But good! But sad! You know what I mean.

message 41: by Ilona (last edited Jun 27, 2014 05:02AM) (new)

Ilona E. That's great! I'd say tell her congrats for me, but I'm not sure that means much from an anonymous person online haha. She sounds like a great kid. :)

message 42: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant judge for yourself, she's the one with the guitar

message 43: by Emma (new)

Emma Paul wrote: "judge for yourself, she's the one with the guitar

That's pretty good! makes me wanna be 17 again and start a cool band. I can't understand a word they're singing but it reduced the pleasure none. Certainly evidence that crappy culture won't kill yer, eh. It all just goes into the mix.

message 44: by Paul (new) - added it

Paul Bryant yes- they do songs with actual proper words most of the time, but I like the tonguetwisting fun of that one.

message 45: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen What a lovely video!

message 46: by Cecily (last edited Oct 14, 2017 03:55AM) (new)

Cecily And now she's 20ish, what does she think...?

(The video is unavailable.)

message 47: by Paul (last edited Oct 14, 2017 04:02AM) (new) - added it

Paul Bryant yes, she deleted those videos - shame!

Well, she's in her last year at university, how time rolls along, and she doesn't roll with no vampires no more. It's all Japanese manga now.

message 48: by Cecily (new)

Cecily It's interesting how their tastes evolve. I wish her success in her final year and with whatever comes next.

drowningmermaid This does make me wonder how seriously I should take child critics. Or any critics.

message 50: by Chloe (new) - added it

Chloe Middleton Okay but please never say Robert Pattinson is a bad actor and is unattractive when that is complete bullshit. I don’t care if that’s your “opinion because it isn’t valid!!!
