it was ok

Ohhhhh the pain. This is why I don’t read classics.
I felt like I was reading a game of clue that lasted for days. So drawn out; so dramatic and so predictable in so many ways.
This cup of tea was definitely not for me.
It’s classified as romantic/suspense. I’m classifying it as dreadfully dull and boring. Eek. Just my opinion.

Cheri I still haven't read this, so I'm really looking forward to your review, Jen!

Canadian Jen I thought I was the only one, Cheri! Lol

message 3: by Dem (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dem Hope your next one is a five star read Jen, I loved this one but completely understand its not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Cathrine ☯️ Rx: Take a pain pill and start another book immediately.

Angela M Haha! Jen, I read it years ago and liked it then. Love your clue analogy!

Jenna Moquin I enjoyed the book, but mainly for the Mrs. Danvers character. She was so wonderfully creepy. If she were in the book more it would've been better!

Thanks Dem - I'm not a mystery buff so maybe that was part of the problem :D

Sounds like a good remedy. Thanks for the fix.

LOL !

Jenna - I agree - she was a good creepy character. I would have fired her day 1!

Diane Barnes I loved this, but I know how you feel. Whenever I attempt a suspense/action novel that gets five stars from others, I'm always disappointed. Just not my thing.

Kaceey Sorry this didn’t work for you Jen! I avoid the classics too!🤦🏻‍♀

Thanks Diane - I'm looking at all the ratings and people are blown away by this one. Sad it didn't work for me.

I'm not sure why I didn't know this one was a classic going in...I often go into books blindly to get my experience. This will teach me! lol.

Cheri Jen, I wanted to read this because it was my mother's favourite book by one of her favourite authors, but I know I tried at one point to read it and didn't get far... but I suspect I will read it, sometime. Sorry this wasn't a better read for you, but completely understand.

I'm sure I'm the only one that didn't like this one - I'll be curious to get your thoughts as I'm sure you will enjoy it much more than I did :) You mentioned you started it but didn't get far....

Karen 😮 it’s ok, I still like you, friend!

Canadian Jen Karen wrote: "😮 it’s ok, I still like you, friend!"

Thanks Karen. That is very fortunate. Maybe I'm a freak of nature....hmmmm.

Thanks Karen :)

Bianca Oh no, sorry it was such a drudgery. As they say, not every book is for everyone. I hope your next read is more fun.

Julie Sorry this one was dull. I never knew it was labeled as romantic suspense- I always thought it was Gothic. Either way, I hope your next book is a better fit! 💖

☮K Oh no! I absolutely adored this and the movie, but that's me. You are you. On to the next!

Canadian Jen Lol movie you say? Hmmm I’m sure I could watch it- I know Hitchcock did the birds which she wrote.

Jennifer ~ TarHeelReader I’m sorry this didn’t work for you, Jen! I enjoyed your review! I have not read it yet! 😬

message 35: by Libby (new)

Libby It's been ages since I read this one, the only book I've ever read by this author. I loved it then, but I have no idea how I would feel about it today after reading scads of contemporary novels. Hope your next read is fabulous, Jen!

message 36: by ☮K (new) - rated it 5 stars

☮K Yes this is Hitchcock too. He makes Danvers simply chilling.

So true, Libby. I may have loved this had I read it years ago....

Canadian Jen ☮K wrote: "Yes this is Hitchcock too. He makes Danvers simply chilling."

Ah, interesting. Yes, I believe he would have.

Cheryl James Wow, this was one of my favorite books. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Classics are not for everyone. Hope you enjoy your next book.

message 40: by Kevin (last edited Jun 17, 2020 03:21AM) (new)

Kevin Ansbro I've watched, and enjoyed, the movie several times. Pity that the book was something of a letdown, Jen.

Canadian Jen Cheryl wrote: "Wow, this was one of my favorite books. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Classics are not for everyone. Hope you enjoy your next book."

Perhaps if I had of read it years ago, I may have felt the same way...who knows? glad you loved it.

Canadian Jen Kevin wrote: "I've watch, and enjoyed, the movie several times. Pity that the book was something of a letdown, Jen."

It really was a pity, Kevin. Would be interested in checking out the movie. I do enjoy a good Hitchcock.

Ѳٳ☶ I love your honesty! I haven't read it but i istened to an audio play of it and wondered what the fuss was. Maybe it wasn't quite thrilling enough for me.

It wasn't thrilling - not based on contemporary thrills.*sigh*
