Do I rate this now? Do I wait till I finish book two?

I NEED BOOK TWO!

I need Sin and Boyd to have much fucking. With each other, please.

***

All right! *rubs hands gleefully*

I have DNFd the full version twice, so I've been waiting for this rewrite. BUT do I launch in now, or wait until part 2 is finished in the autumn?

Emma Sea right, Giulio has spoken! I'm waiting

Sorry, I'm feeling bossy this morning. But I believe it's better if you can read part 1 and 2 togheter. I'm sparing you withdrawal symptoms :)

message 4: by Emma Sea (new) - added it

Emma Sea no, I like bossy. I trust you.

Sofia Hi Emma and Giulio

Going to follow your advise to wait Giulio. Please count me in if you plan a buddy read :)

Emma Sea Sofia wrote: "Please count me in if you plan a buddy read :)"

that sounds like a great idea, Sofia :)

Sofia Mainly I read alone. But I love the immediate sharing when you read together. Sometimes you just need to turn your head and nod (or whatever) :)

message 8: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore Giulio is right. You should wait. Especially since the first volume ends right before the *really* good stuff starts to happen ;)

Victoria Loves Books I read the entire series back-to-back and loved it. My family wasn't happy that I disappeared for days and days!

Okay, roger that. another 6 months won't kill me, right?

message 11: by Jenni (new) - added it

Jenni I'm sitting at 65-ish percent (since December) on the original version. *bites nails* What to do?!? That new cover speaks to me though...

message 12: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore It sounds like it'll be less than six months, so it should be fine, Emma! :)

Jenni, you could wait for the second volume and then start the DC from the beginning. From what I gather, details have changed here and there, and the first volume is already considerably shorter, so it would make for an interesting reading experience.

I'm hoping! Good advice. I ran out of gas on the original. You know, waiting, waiting, waiting for things to get moving. I could probably pick it up today and keep going; this gal requires action, though! I have HIGH hopes for the DC :)

Then a few more months won't hurt. :) It'll be almost a year after you started it, so it'll be feasier to go back and reread. And I'm sure the DC is better than the original!

message 15: by Vivian (new)

Vivian You know, if you read the director's cut it's unlikely that you'll be able to draw accurate architectural plans of the city and all the buildings--just saying.

Haha! Well, if someone is interested in such level of detail, I think the writers have posted those plans somewhere, haven't they?

message 17: by Vivian (last edited Jun 20, 2014 01:16PM) (new)

Vivian Wow. I was being fictitious, Lenore. Good to know I wasn't imaging be able to look through planning drawings while reading those. I probably even got as far into it to picture the signage in stairwells.

I know you were! :) I just remember having seen plans of the Agency's compound somewhere. They're not very detailed, but they do help the reader picture it better.

Vivian Very cool.

message 22: by Jenni Lea (new) - added it

Jenni Lea I wish I had waited for Vol 2 before starting this. I'm at 74% of DC and I'm growing more and more upset that I won't be able to immediately start the 2nd volume when I'm done.

I know, Jenni. I've been holding off on reading the Director's Cut for the same reason. You shouldn't just download the original version and pick up where this volume stops though, because your reading experience won't be the same.

Like I mentioned upthread, apart from the fact that the DC reads much more smoothly and is way tighter than the original version, certain details have been changed in the DC (scenes deleted, new scenes added, etc.) so some things won't make sense if you read the second part of the original version. There'll be continuity issues.

The second volume of the DC will be out in a couple of months. Not too long now.

message 25: by Jenni Lea (new) - added it

Jenni Lea It's going to be a long couple of months.

message 26: by Ami (last edited Jun 28, 2014 06:24PM) (new) - added it

Ami I am still leery of reading this even if I ended up enjoying After Midnight. I have a very bad record with long free-online works, I DNF (almost) all of them *sigh*. Maybe I should wait for part 2 as well? And then Emma and I can try tackling both volumes?

What do you think, Ems?

message 27: by Jenni Lea (new) - added it

Jenni Lea I haven't read the original so I can't tell you the differences but what I can say is that this doesn't read like online fiction. This reads like a book. A fan-freaking-tastic book I might add.

:) The first volume of the DC has been sitting on my Kindle tempting me to just open it and start reading since the day it was released. Resisting hasn't been easy.

You must resist! I wish I had resisted. I was even told to wait but did I listen?

P.S. Guess how bad I wanted to say 'resistance is futile' just now? :P

message 30: by Emma Sea (new) - added it

Emma Sea @Ami, yes! Wait for part 2 and we can buddy read both together. I bet there's a few people who will join us.

We're starting a huge buddy read the moment the second volume is out. You should join! :)

message 32: by Jenni Lea (new) - added it

Jenni Lea Yes! I'll definitely join you! :)

message 33: by Mara (new) - added it

Mara A buddy read! :o I wondered if anyone was doing one...I am also waiting for second volume. (I also made myself not read Interludes or Fade yet ~_~)

message 34: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore Mara, you should join too! The more, the merrier!

Though, you could read the original versions of the Interludes and Fade all right. From what I gather, the DC versions for those won't be out for a while yet.

Unless you're holding off for some other reason? :)

message 35: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore Heads up, guys. We're starting the buddy read early next week, if you'd still like to join!

message 36: by Emma Sea (new) - added it

Emma Sea thanks, Lenore, that sounds great. Is there a main thread?

message 37: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore Not yet, but I'll create one on the Santino & Ais group and copy the link here!

message 39: by Giulio (new)

Giulio I'm game! I miss my Hsin.

Sofia Oh I so want to join in, in this one. Got another two books to read next week. So I'll either join in late or read after :(

message 41: by Lenore (new) - added it

Lenore Here is the thread for the buddy read: /topic/show/...

You'll need to join the group if you're not a member already.

No worries, Sofia. I'm the world's slowest reader. I'll probably still be reading the book when you're ready to join.

Sofia Great Lenore will see you then :)

Have to join the group.

Tully Vincent did you ever read book 2 yet? I read the original (love it), now reading this book 1 of the director's cut.
