I think I have a sinus infection in my teeth. The pain! Ugh!

message 153: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) YUCK!! Sorry, although I'm trying to understand how a tooth can get a sinus infection...?!

I'm packing right now - we're off to Croatia tomorrow morning for holidays! OK, that clearly does rock, but the packing not so much.

message 154: by S.M. (new)

S.M. McEachern (smmceachern) | 45 comments Heidi - you need drugs. Really good ones.

Vered - I'll be stopping into Dubrovnik next October, so if you're there please let me know all about the "must-sees." We're going on a cruise and it's one of the port of calls, so we're only there for 9 hours or so. (my girls and I are meeting my husband, who is stationed in Afghanistan for a year. Originally we were going to do the Kenya/Tanzania safari, but we switched to the cruise).

I hope Heidi gets better soon! I know how painful that is.

Well it is not really my teeth Vered- the roots of your teeth are right next to you sinus passages so the pressure from my sinuses is pressing on all of the teeth in the upper left side of my mouth. I am off to Prompt Care in a few minutes because I could not sleep all night :( I've had this before and because I have had a lot of dental work I am more susceptible to it. Give me some drugs people! Thanks ladies!

Yuck! I am on day 5 of 10 of the antibiotic they gave me and it is a slow worker! Last time I had one they gave me like 750 mg of Amoxicillin and it knocked it out in a day. Blurg! S.M.is yours just in your head or near your teeth?? They both suck!

S.M. McEachern (smmceachern) | 45 comments It's migrating to my teeth. I've had it before so I know what I'm in for. It's Saturday, so no doctor offices open and I refuse to sit for 3-4 hours in an emerg with a mask on (I can barely breathe as it is!). I was supposed to be on a marathon writing session this weekend (my goal: 200 pages), but my brain is in a fog! Ack!

S.M. I feel for you! Sorry! I worked everyday last week but it wore me out so much I couldn't read and went to bed by 8:00 p.m. everyday and I am still not 100% (I would probably be better if I just took a day off but alas!). No prompt cares near you? I got in and out of mine within an hour - but I went right at the opening time.

S.M. McEachern (smmceachern) | 45 comments I hear ya about the fatigue! I've napped twice today and slept 9 hours straight last night. Unfortunately, no prompt care facilities around me in our nation's capital. I've been to emerg a couple of times the past two weeks with my youngest (she's a little clutsy... she managed to scratch her eye with her fingernail last week and this week we think she broke her finger playing basketball.) I KNOW what the wait times are for emerg!! I have a few homeopathic remedies I'll try on my own.

S.M. McEachern (smmceachern) | 45 comments Oh Vered, I feel your pain. Every time we travel, one of my kids gets sick too. Not fun at all. On a separate note, did you go into Dubrovnik? I'm hoping to get the inside scoop on all the "must sees" for our port of call in October. Feel free to message me!

Heidi, mine seems to be hanging on as well! Maybe if we actually get a summer here, the sunshine might help it go away!

My pity to both of you. Have you tried flushing your nose (with a plastic syringe) with warm salt water? Sounds yuck, but it really clears out the airways and also kills all sorts of nasty stuff.

We didn't get as far south as Dubrovnik, but went to Split and similar places nearby. Basically, the place to go in all those coastal towns is the old city, where everything of interest will be in one place. And just wander around, get a bit lost, pop into a museum, eat the ice cream (really good!) and soak it in.

Amanda (Pasha88) | 9 comments Things that suck (right now):

-Sister drama - basically, my it's my mom and I vs. my sister and dad, totally not a cool position to be in. And best of all, our family vacation was cancelled because of it!

- Cats that don't get along - my grandmother was in the hospital last week, so we brought her cat to our house to look after her - My Grandma's fine (Thank God) but her cat and my cat just refuse to get along! I am getting so tired of them both whining for affection then biting and scratching each other until one of them gives up and leaves the room. Hissing matches at 3 am... oh joy!!

message 177: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Sorry Amanda! I live away from my family so I can go visit and avoid daily drama! Cats are not like dogs -- they take awhile to get used to each other. We had to put our second cat in a separate room for nearly a week and then wean him into the same room as our first cat but putting him in a cat carrier and placing them in the same room that way. They have been together for nearly 10 years and still don't really like one another. It is stressful at first for sure!

I'm married to a military pilot and we move every two years. My 14 year old daughter has attended 7 different schools and my 10 year old daughter has attended 5 different schools. Changing schools, finding new friends and trying to catch on to a new curriculum is tough! But wow, Kaylani - 9 moves in 2 years is a LOT. My heart goes out to you. I hope you find a new place soon that has lots of supportive neighbours ready to make a new friend.

I hear ya! I was an air force and went to 19 schools before graduating a half year early from high school. Twice we moved 3 times within 2 weeks, changing schools each time. (Move from overseas, find a place to live, then base housing would open up so we'd move on base). It was a different childhood, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. But I have now found my perfect house for me and have no intentions of ever moving again (8 years now).

I feel your pain!!

message 196: by S.M. (last edited Jul 27, 2013 07:50PM) (new)

S.M. McEachern (smmceachern) | 45 comments It is horrible. Really, really sick. So far there are 3 victims and the predator is facing 18 charges! The police have been in touch with the swim team and an email with instructions on how to "question" our children without leading them has been sent. More victims may surface as a result.

During this process, I've learned that the predator "grooms" his victims. So parents, talk to your kids; and kids talk to your parents. Hard to say if this could've been avoided, but prefer to think it can be prevented in the future.

message 197: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I work in law enforcement S.M. and sex offenders find victims by being "nice". The best thing you can teach your kids is not to let anyone but parents touch their private parts and more importantly to be independent. Offenders often seek out the meek because they need the extra support and also because they are less likely to talk. It is sad that the ones who need to most attention in life are often the victims :(

message 198: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Even for kids who weren't direct victims, they're still going to need some support. I mean, a coach is someone you trust, look up to, respect etc. How to be healthily skeptical without becoming paranoid.

message 199: by S.M. (new)

Vered, that is exactly what my daughter is struggling with. She knew her coach very well and trusted him. This is such a huge breach of trust. And, of course, her heart is breaking for the victims. Trust will be a big issue for her from here on out.

Heidi, you make a very good point. There are children who keep to themselves and/or don't have a good relationship with their parents. In fact, the more I read about the issue I am discovering that quite often the offender is part of the family! Ugh!! It's very interesting to hear you work in law enforcement. This is all new to us (my family), so any information you can pass on to me to help my daughter deal would be greatly appreciated. Many parents of kids on the team are scratching their heads, wondering to go from here.

message 200: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
The number one thing would be that your daughter knows to trust her gut and to have an adult she feels comfortable with to talk to. Also that she knows no one should ever touch her without her permission. Bad things like this happen more than you even know. :(
