Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Gonna respond to Barb's comment on the welcome thread ("OK team, the challenge is on! The folks over on the Leather Jacket Black team seem to have taken aim specifically at OUR team. However, we've already finished 8 books ... to their 0 :) ") here...

We got this. Easy peasy. :)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments We will work on encouraging each other and power-reading!!!

Maybe some cross-team reading mini-challenges and read-a-thons!!!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Okay team, I'll be gone most of the afternoon. My partner works at a school for kids with autism, and since it's autism awareness month, the school is sponsoring a baseball game for one of the local teams. So we're going to support the school and raise awareness and such. And eat yummy cookout/summer food! :)

I'll check back this evening. I'll be around for the next little bit though. Leaving in approximately an hour.

message 106: by Barb (new)

Barb I've just posted our first mini-challenge in the thread Steven set aside for such things. To be sure you get credit for it, when you complete a book that fits the challenge, please post it there.

Mini Challenge #1 - M and T

Barb Just finished listening to Keeper of the Keys by Perri O'Shaughnessy , my first book by Perri O'Shaughnessy. It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't so bad that I'll shy away from this author in the future.

Next up on the audio front: Fly Away by Kristin Hannah , Kristin Hannah's newest.

Jane | 705 comments Second book done. Wasn't great so it took me a bit of time to get through. Wise Follies by Grace Wynne-Jones

Now I will look for a book with M or T

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished my second book Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer . I could not put that book down. It was so good. Now, it's time for a real book so my Nook Color can charge.

message 120: by Barb (new)

Barb That's been on my TBR list forever, Nancy, but I haven't yet gotten around to it. One of these days ....

Barb wrote: "That's been on my TBR list forever, Nancy, but I haven't yet gotten around to it. One of these days ...."

I loved it. It was so good. Hopefully, when you read it, you will like it as well.

message 122: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments I've heard lots of good things about that book!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Steven, do you mind if I copy/borrow from your spreadsheet? I really like how organized it is. I'm not sure if I'll just copy it outright or just glean some ideas from it but I wanted to be sure it's okay first.

message 124: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Sure. Feel free to do whatever :) Also, make sure you look at the second tab. I just went through and updated it... all you have to do is go through each challenge and add the number of books they've read, and it automatically puts at the bottom who is in the lead :)

message 125: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Keep up the reading guys... We're currently in the lead! :)

message 126: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments PS - Teresa, that's the accountant in me... I build spreadsheets all day. EXCEL NONSTOP. X)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Thanks, Steven! I do have a question -- how do we figure out the % of goal? Oh, I guess it shows on the Team page doesn't it? Duh...

Haha, on the second page I see you guys are in the lead! A little bit of shameless self-promotion in your reply to me, eh?! LOL! Congrats!

I am proud to be the 1 that sits by Cadet Blue's name, haha.

How to "Refresh" a Member's Total or Add a Comment to Their "view books" Screen:

We are using ♥Robin on Atomic Tangerine for this example:

Scroll down to your friends, who are listed first, or down futher to "community."
Click on either the percent numbers or the words "view books" (red arrow)
You can enter a comment on this screen (blue arrow), if you desire, or wait for the next one.

On this screen you can see her total books jumped from 2 to 4.

If you click on her name (blue arrow), it will hyperlink to her Profile page.

Pink arrow shows comments by other members.

If you hit the back arrow to go back to the community page, you'll see she is back to 2 books; just refresh the page.

The Total goal for all participants may take anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes.

The cache usually updates every night sometime after 9 p.m. PST.

message 129: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Well, I made a separate comment to say that in... I was really just touting my spreadsheet skills.

The % of goal calculates itself. :) As long as you've put in the goal number and the number read correctly, that'll pop up. :)

message 130: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Once you get all the info in the first time, the only thing you'll really need to do is change the "read" number and then mark the dates for "last book added" and then "page count done date" when you've verified the books are fair for the challenge. :)

Oh, and the books read for the teams by clicking on each challenge for that second tab.

Hehe, well you told me to make sure to look at the second tab and when I did, that's when I saw your team name in the LEAD! LOL!

Thanks, mods! I just love your little illustrations, they are so handy.

message 132: by Barb (new)

Barb I hope the quiet here means that everybody's busy reading! LOL I'm about to head upstairs to read a bit before I fall asleep, but I'll be back to my book as soon as I can after work tomorrow :) Have a good night everyone!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments *rings doorbell*

*would insert cute doorbell pic but is so so tired*

Steven, I created my spreadsheet. Thanks so much for allowing me to blatantly rip off your formats and style, lol. Your sheet just fit exactly what I wanted to do but my addled brain couldn't function well enough to actually set up the formatting so you saved me the hassle. It took forever to edit it as it was, lol. You can check our sheet out in our page somewhere near the top of our thread.

Also, our team actually has a lower goal (I'm sure it's temporary) than everyone else and when i adjust your second page accordingly, it shows that Cadet Blue is in the lead for winning, LOL! We are closer to our goal with only 1 book accounted for, lol!! I was so amused by that, but I kept the goal as 1350 for now.

Barb ❀ Oo ❀ wrote: "I'm not here for smack talk , but just to quickly find out from the mods, if the captains of the group and me are still on for a challenge?"

I've been waiting to see if our captains are willing to take on this challenge or not :) I suspect they've been too busy to notice it LOL

message 135: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Yeah, it will do that because it's just pulling the lowest value from that column for the "in the lead" box! :)

Glad to be helpful!!!

message 136: by Steven (last edited Apr 15, 2013 05:52AM) (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Hmmm, might as well, Oo. I can deal with the punishments, just to see if you have to Mango your profile up. X)

message 137: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments If we go through with this one, I might have to set up a similar one for you in a few weeks :)

message 138: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments I just need to find shorter books. MOST of the books waiting on my Kindle are over 450 pages each. A good chunk of them much longer at over 600 or 700 pages! X)

- Master Copy

New feature coming: link to member's "view books" screen. Blue font indicated there is a hyperlink, as member joined sucessfully; black indicated no hyperlink, as member has not yet done so.

Remember, you can hyperlink to member's Profile from that screen.

TEAM UPDATES

If you don't want to go from challenge to challenge but still want to know the other teams' results we set a - Who is in the lead?

Happy Readings!

message 145: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments It started as "Crayola Colors" and I share a board with some of my GRs friends. They are always posting these BEAUTIFUL doors; with multiple colors. And a light bulb just went off...because, you know, people had to gain access to get into the "sister group."

Then, I started thinking about all the things that are part of a door...

message 146: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5186 comments Like keys and keyholes and hinges and doorbells! :)

message 147: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments And, for the questions on page count/books I put address numbers that were near door, like on potted plants.

Jane | 705 comments or whose titles begin with M or T. Let's give ourselves a week for this one and see how we do :)

I have just finished Wait For Me by Elisabeth Naughton Wait For Me.
Does it work for our mini-challenge or does it have to be the first word in the title that starts with M or T?

message 150: by Barb (new)

Barb Makes sense to me :) Then again, some of you have seen the strange way my mind works, so I may not be the best judge of what's logical and what's not LOL
