Thanks, Faith! **Lisa Kay takes a sip** Hmmm... Early in the day to be partaking... but it is 12 noon somewhere, right? LOL!

I've created a thread in our sister group, strictly for Read-a-thon chatter! Please use THAT THREAD for all suggestions for themes, mini challenges to enter into the 'contest', your goals, etc! REMEMBER: Participation in the RaT is voluntary, AND regardless of how many participate, the team STILL earns points!

Mary: HDLS, I'm waiting to see if a "heavy hitter" checks in today. If not, then I'll put her on our Team and assigned them to replace her.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I want a kitten really bad. But I have 2 very large dogs and a very small house. So probably not a good idea.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I have decided to really trim down the May Mini-Challenge now that there is this read-a-thon also happening. Unless anyone objects, I'm going to drop anything holiday related. I'll just keep it simple.

Also still don't know what to award as a "prize" for "winning" the mini-challenges. Should we skip worrying about points altogether? Or maybe the "winner" could get to choose a genre for the next month that's worth bonus points? Or choose the main subject of the encouraging pics we post? Any thoughts?

message 163: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm no winner by does David Gandy has a uniform picture? No? That's a real shame... He has blue eyes and everything

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments He is a hotty.

Not a uniform but an excellent pic of his eyes.

message 167: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments David Gandy is who I always picture when reading an Regency romance with a dark haired hero.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Wow, so many pretty blue things posted here since I fell asleep 6 hours ago! (I took a LONG nap, lol). Love those blue eyes in both men and the kitten!

Oh, Mary, I wish you could get a kitten, too. They're so sweet and funny! We rescued one almost a year ago and boy does he keep us amused.

Mary, in regards to the challenge question -- I think challenges that don't reward points or put pressure on people are the best but that's just my opinion. It's hard to say right now, with the RaT looming ahead. And that's fine about putting off the holiday related May stuff!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Re: David Gandy -- I did a search and see him in his undies a lot. We'll just say that's his uniform, mkay? LOL! Man, he is yummy. Now I know who to picture when I read the J. D. Robb "In Death" series as Rourke.

message 170: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ok I think I will just drop the points thing then on the challenges. I used them because everyone seemed to be into them on my team in the last round. But there wasn't a prize or anything.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I didn't finish my audiobook today, but then it is over 16 hours long; I'm about 1/2 way...not quite.

I also chipped away at three paperbacks... nothing grabbed me. Sorry. But I'll catch up.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Quick little rundown of my day:

I started a book at work yesterday, got 25 pages read. Tried to read in bed but managed two pages before sleep took me over.

Today, I read a few pages but then went to do some family stuff. After that, I sat on couch to read but couldn't even keep my eyes open for some reason, so I put the book down (never too far out of reach, lol) and ended up sleeping for SIX HOURS!!!! WHAT?!? I did not plan that! Nobody came to wake me up, they just said, "oh gee, she's been asleep for awhile", lol.

So, I wake up, eat dinner, then come here to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to check on things, mess around with ideas for the RaT theme and this and that, spend time with son, watch a little bit of TV, come back here to plot my reading plan for the RaT, update spreadsheet, fiddle around online doing other stuff. Now... 1:00 AM and I still have yet to crack open the book since the nap! Looks like I need to crack the whip at myself, LOL!

Goodnight, everyone. :)

message 173: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I started a big project time consuming at work... so my internet access/reading will suffer a bit. Hoping to have some time though.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Oo, from Leather Jacket Black has proposed a fun competition of sorts, for a later date (i.e., after the RaT stuff is done, at the earliest!) I think it could be fun but of course it's all voluntary and we really don't have to discuss it until much later. I just wanted to share it now so I wouldn't forget!

to all the spies and snitches

How would you feel about occasionally having a compeition between the other teams?

1# What if we had a competition, where 1 captain from each of the teams who decide to participate, face off and see who can read the most amount of books or pages within a certain time frame?

2# Two teams compete against each other to see who can read the most amount of books within a certain time frame?

3# Both teams have the same mini-challenge, and we see which team could read the most books for it?

This wouldn't be nasty or competitive. There PROBABLY would be smack talk - you know how people are ;), but the purose of it would be for fun, and to try and boost your team's ranking.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Sounds fun to me.

I thought there was talk about having other team Captain's read against us as the mod's team?

I was thinking of doing one where everyone sends the person who they think will read the most that week up. All of them against all of us.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I just tried to copy/paste the most recent update in the standings and it mashed it all up and it looked like gibberish.

So here's the bottom line: we are in last place and behind the next to last team by 12 books.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I've got about 5 books on the fire! I'm going to try to read Gone Girl to catch up to today's portion on the BOM here in this group. Once I reach that goal, I'll start reading one or two of my other books. So, I will not be around much today! Happy Reading, all!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "You get any more risqué, and Lisarenee is definitely going to delete your pic."

*gulp* Oops. To be honest, I was more focused on his upper body and didn't even register the "uniform" falling down, heh. I like strong arms!

message 198: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I'm only 28 and Harrison Ford is the yummiest you've posted yet. I'm not into the muscle bound guys in the other pictures as much. Not to say that a few of them haven't been good. I think it shows the nerd in me more then anything :-P

message 199: by Barb (new)

Barb LOL Jex You sound like my daughter (who's 23) :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "Sure, Teresa. Stick with that story."

LOL! It's true so I will. :p

@ Jex - I am trying to post things for the group as a whole to enjoy so I just look for yummy guys in uniform and hope they appeal to at least one person, hehe. I don't know everyone's taste here so I figure if I make one person happy, that's good. (Sonia seems easy to please, haha)

I like the Harrison Ford pic a lot, too. I liked him as Han Solo, as well. Love that sarcastic sense of humor.

Nerdy guys are hot, too! I tried to find cute guys reading books and at the time, didn't find much that appealed to me other than Jensen Ackles lying down reading, but I'm on the prowl for more. And they'll be less risque!
