As well as about to start March pick Altered Carbon, reading The Crystal Cave, the first book of Mary Stewart's take on Arthurian legend through Merlin's viewpoint, and God's Jury: The Inquisition and the Making of the Modern World.

What about you?

Ty Wilson (ShatterStar66) | 165 comments Since I read Altered Carbon just last year, I'll be skipping that one and finally reading Dune instead. I'm also reading Dragon Prince and Eden. After that I'll be jumping into Mistborn: The Final Empire and maybe The Strain.

terpkristin | 4387 comments I'm starting Altered Carbon today, and hoping to finish it by Tuesday so I can jump right into Words of Radiance.

message 4: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Just started Foundation's Edge.

Don't have to worry about finishing before the 4th (Words of Radiance day) because it's definitely not getting shipped on time.

message 5: by Viola (new)

Viola | 188 comments Taking a break from all other books I'm currently reading to read The Last Colony and loving every second of it.

Christopher B. | 56 comments I am still working in finishing Insurgent and Happy Hour in Helland when I finish them I will figure out what I am going to read next. I have a few choices I am looking at from a few authors. Plus the new Kim Harrison book is on its way to me signed.

Amanda (amandaquotidianbooks) | 50 comments I'm reading this month's book club pick, The Mirror of Her Dreams and its sequel, A Man Rides Through! Trying to finish up the triple dog dare reading challenge spectacularly.

Melissa | 65 comments I'm about a third of the way through the Sand Omnibus by Hugh Howey. It's pretty good so far.

Wow, I haven't read Dragon Prince in years. I loved the magic system based on light and color. The dragons are pretty cool too.

Tamahome | 7132 comments Finished Locke & Key final volume. My review: /review/show...

Re-reading The Brave and the Bold, Vol. 1: The Lords of Luck (art by George Perez).
(Supergirl and Lobo)

Jennifer Swerbensky | 75 comments I'm right in the middle of Theft of Swords, which while I'll admit isn't the most original of books, it's still a lot of fun. I'm trying to race through it so I'll be done with it by Wednesday. Unfortunately I won't be reading this month's pick. In a show of solidarity with my kids, I'm giving up something for Lent. And this year I've decided to give up sci-fi and fantasy books. (Yeah I'm that much of a geek that, that is the hardest thing for me to give up.) So I'll probably be hitting a lot of the classics that I've been putting off for most of March and some of April. Not really sure what I'll be reading com Wednesday.

I'm a little over halfway through it and am really enjoying it. It's a bit lighter in tone than some of the stuff I've been reading lately so it's a nice change of pace.

message 15: by Rik (new)

Rik | 777 comments Finishing up The Passage by Brian Cronin before perhaps trying Altered Carbon if my library has it.

I'm about halfway done with The Passage and it is fantastic. Its basically the vampire apocalypse and its so refreshing to read a modern vampire tale where the vamps aren't trying to romance teen girls and instead are just killing machines without mercy.

The book starts out a few years in the future leading up the apocalypse and then jumps to the aftermath.

message 16: by N (new)

N | 2 comments Finishing up Terry Pratchett's Soul Music tonight, and I'm thinking I will read Moving Pictures next.
I'm also going to have to pick up Words of Radiance sometime this week.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, I finished off The High Druid's Blade (The Defenders of Shannara #1) by Terry Brooks [My review here] and Intensity by Dean Koontz [My review here]

It's on to Talus and the Frozen King by Graham Edwards for me now!

message 18: by Mark (new)

Mark Catalfano (cattfish) I've decided to read Stephen Baxter's backlog of novels. Starting with Coalescent.

Jeff Namadan (jnamadan) | 218 comments Just picked up Altered Carbon audiobook for the club pick & will be picking up Words of Radiance on the Kindle. Still contemplating a re-read of The Way of Kings before that or just read the chapter summaries.

I never finished Ring, but I dug the sun chick.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I started reading Altered Carbon today. I'm also halfway through the audiobook of Tears of Rain by Rosa Montero, which I'm not sure I'll finish. (Can anyone weigh in?)

message 23: by Rik (last edited Mar 02, 2014 09:49AM) (new)

Rik | 777 comments I guess I'm also reading Among Others by Jo Walton but I just can't muster the energy to go on. Its such a boring book about a boring character doing boring things and reciting a list of Sci Fi books written long ago that I mostly haven't read. I lemmed it halfway through and keep telling myself to finish because I hate leaving books unfinished but every time I think about it doing I choose something more fun like cleaning toilets. Its been two weeks since I touched it and I just so don't care about finishing except for not wanting to leave a book I actually paid for unfinished.

I finished listening to The Emperor's Blades which I really enjoyed (My Review). Now I'm listening to Altered Carbon.

I also finished Dust of Dreams a little ahead of the Malazan group read to give myself more time for Words of Radiance this week. I was disappointed with this book (My Review).

message 25: by Rick (new)

Rick Well, all of you in the Feb thread kept talking about Andy Weir's The Martian so that's next up, then I think Nicola Griffith's Hild or Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Then I really need to finish Jeff Noon's Channel SK1N.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea, I'm gonna be picking up The Martian soon too. The premise sounds pretty cool, and there's a ridiculous amount of people saying good things about it.

message 27: by Casey (new)

Casey | 654 comments I just finished and reviewed Terms of Enlistment for SFF Audio.
I also just finished and reviewed Lines of Departure for SFF Audio.

Good Military SF.

Jenny (jennyc89) | 116 comments I'm still reading books I started last month: Mrs. Poe, The Battle of the Labyrinth (audio), and Shift Omnibus Edition (Silo, #2). I'm enjoying them all, but Shift Omnibus Edition (Silo, #2) isn't pulling me in like Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) did.

message 32: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) Started The Warded Man - Peter V. Brett. Have heard great things about it, and it has not disappointed. Pretty much loving it so far ... right from the beginning it has grabbed and held my attention. Great characters, great world, great story so far

Viola | 188 comments Have finished The Last Colony which I loved, I wish every book could be like that or rather I wish that every book could be good in their own right. Am struggling with Magic's Pawn at the moment, it is tedious at best.

You may like the next book then Zoe's Tale which is basically the same story told from Zoe's POV. I didn't like it so much because it was too much like reading the same story again but you may like it.

I'm a bit hesitant about reading Zoë's Tale, since it is as you say a retelling of The Last Colony from her POV and I'm not that keen on teenage protagonists and I’m not really a fan of Zoë either. However, if one get to know what happened when she went off to save the general’s life than maybe I will read it.

You do get that part of the story in the last 15 to 20% of the book and it's the only part that interested me. But it wasn't really worth reading through the rest. If that 15% was slotted into Last Colony it would have made a better book again.

message 39: by Michele (new)

Michele | 1154 comments Just finished The Martian after a 6 hour read-a-thon. Thought it was fantastic! My eyes did glaze over a bit when he got all technical but other than that I really enjoyed the character, the writing was very easy but not stupidly simple, definitely kept me enthralled and anxious to know how it would end. I have no idea how accurate all the science was, but I totally bought into the story.

If the narrator is any good, I'd definitely want to try listening to it, since it's mostly 1st person and that usually works well for audio.

I wondered what I was missing by not reading Zoe's Tale. I kinda figured it wasn't completely necessary in the grand scheme of things.

Brian wrote: " re-reading Rendezvous with Rama"

I really liked Rama. Great book!

Im going to get to Old Man's War in a few months. Does anyone know if Zoe's Tale is relevant to The Human Division?

message 42: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 4 comments Plowing through the Legacy of the Force nine-book series from the Star Wars EU over the past two weeks. It's surprisingly easy to keep track of which of the tag-teaming authors wrote which books. If there's a lot of Mandalorians, motherhood, and it rips my heart apart and makes me cry, Karen Travis. If it has a lot of Jaina Solo being flirted at by boys in ridiculously inappropriate circumstances, the characters make lots of unjustifiable leaps of logic in order to advance the plot, and the prose keeps saying the stupidest things I've ever heard, Aaron Allston.

Mark Inman (thezizou) | 6 comments About to jump into Mistborn, The Final Empire, after I finish up 11/22/63 by Stephen King which I'm actually enjoying quite a bit... I haven't been able to track down Altered Carbon on audiobook, so I'm out for that one this month

message 47: by Fauxley (new)

Fauxley | 15 comments I'm about 3/4 of the way through The Final Empire now, can't believe it took me this long to get to it. I'm gonna burn through the first Dune next, another long overdue read for me.

message 48: by Camilla (new)

Camilla Hansen (malazanshadowdancer) | 64 comments As I've been highly inactive in my reading, I have made little progress since last year. Hurray for real life intervention!

Standing still in Dust of Dreams.

Just read The Importance of Being Earnest, highly amusing and quick read.

I've picked up on The Rithmatist again, lovely to listen to while sitting on the bus for half an hour. Keeps me awake with all this pondering!

And I'm soon-ish done with Chronicles of the Black Company. I really want to continue the series, but at the same time, it's THREE novels in one. It will fuck up my yearly book goal as well :< Oh well. I have lots to start on anyway.

I have to catch up with some of my book clubs, picking up my copy of The Name of the Wind next.

Though I HAVE gotten through 3 novels already this year, all Guild Wars 2 related:
Ghosts of Ascalon, Edge of Destiny and Sea of Sorrows.

Bookboy | 7 comments So far in March:

Annihilation - A decent read, some really scary imagery, an interesting mystery with echoes of Lost, interested to see where he goes next with this.

As part of my challenge to read a book about each American President: Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison - Read these intercut since Cleveland served one term, lost reelection to Harrison and then defeated Harrison four years later to return to the Presidency. Both interesting guys with very different outlooks on certain things, and the first Presidents to begin to show signs of what we now think of as a "modern" President (ie. running for office, much more involved in the legislative side of things...)

The Templar Prophecy - A so-so thriller, which couldn't quite seem to decide whether it wanted hints of the supernatural in it or not.

Currently reading:

The Swan Gondola - So far about a third of the way through, an engaging love story set during a Worlds Fair in Nebraska at the end of the 19th century.

The Way of Kings - Got a handful of chapters left in my reread of this before starting on Words of Radiance. Enjoying my reread much more than I did my initial read, which left me quite cold until the end.
