What Are You Reading?

Four people meet in the cancer ward of an Anchorage hospital. They come together as friends to support each other in the pain of loss of parents to cancer. Three women have lost one of their parents and the other's father is now in remission. Each have taken on grief in their own ways. The four women have decided to meet every Sunday at someone's home for a potluck. Thus, The Sunday Potluck Club. Bridget immerses herself in all sorts of causes, Nichole feels guilty at times as her father survived and she wonders if she should even be included in the group, Hazel had met a man during her parents chemo and they are now in a relationship. She can be a bit condescending at times but is still a good support to all. Amy Shannon is the main character of the book who loss her mother to neurocancer. She is the mediator, caretaker of the group. She has had the hardest of letting go of the grief. Until she literally runs into Trent. A kind, handsome man. His daughter, she discovers, is in her class that she teaches. Olivia is very quiet, non-responsive to others around her in the class. What a surprise to Amy when she asks Olivia's father to stop by to have a chat regarding Olivia to discover it is the man from the car accident. This is a very deep, emotional book. It deals with the struggles of caring for someone you love through the end of the lives by this awful disease then the grief that has to be endured after their deaths. It is a roller coaster of situations, and emotions. It's love, forgiveness, friendship and building new lives for themselves. A wonderful book to read.
*I was given a free copy of this book and this is my honest review* 4 stars

A beauty and the beast sort of tale. Hermione lives with her father and they have little means, but she is content. Her reputation was ruined after a man who made advances to her started ugly rumors regarding her virtue when she denied him. Her father has made a deal with a man who is searching for a wife for his Lord. Although she is apprehensive and has many doubts, they go to meet this man. She has learned to be adventurous and very independent in her life. Lord Fisher is a wonderful, handsome man with many scars outside and inside. There was a terrible fire in which Ian ran in to save his mother and father. Unfortunately, he was unable to save his father and holds the scars for it. And has blamed himself and his brother. His brother Jonah has learned to escape the tragedy in his own way. After their mother died, the brothers were torn apart. This book is filled with a lot of heartache, drama and hope. Unfortunately I found it lost in the sappiness of the whole story, the awful proofing in the E-reader and much repetitiveness in dialogue and descriptions. It was too sickening sweet for me. 2 stars

Ceana Morvell is happy in her life in the cottage in the woods with her Grandmother. They are both healers. Her life is turned upside down when her grandmother gives her an unusual key and sends her off to hide away with the instructions to not tell anyone she has it. She can't trust anyone! On her way towards the North, she is captured by the guard of Mhaol Chaluim. She is taken into the castle and not allowed to leave as it is too dangerous on the roads for a woman. The Laird Raghnall MacCramhain is a powerful man but has a good heart and cares very much for his kingdom. As the story unravels, of course they begin to care for each other. Until she is abducted by a man with a black hood and cape wanting her to give him the key. Thankfully her screams makes him run. This is a fun story to read, with spicy romance, suspense and mystery. The ending was a surprise. The only thing about the book I didn't like was that the dialogue became too repetitious and boring. I found myself scanning over pages. 3 stars

Just started on Kindle "the Stolen Diadem of a Castaway Lady " by Hanna Hamilton. ARC
Beatrix Risewell, daughter of a renowned outlaw known as Prince Aaron. She goes out on a plan to steal with the other gang members one night only to be captured by Callum Ahern, Marquess of Belltona. Something very valuable, his late mother’s wedding diadem is missing and Callum wants her to give it back. And until he gets her to do so or tell him where it is, he will keep her hostage. She is disgusted by the privileged and their keeping all their wealth for themselves instead of for the people. Beatrix holds nothing back letting him know how she feel about it. Callum is a good man and decides to maybe use honey instead of vinegar to get his possession returned. This, of course, is quite a predictable story but it is filled humor, clean romance, mystery and suspense. It has many likable characters and keeps you guessing until the end. Many twists and turns. I really enjoyed this book.

A quick short story of two twin Amish sisters who have planned their Rumspsringa for many years. Their mother has left a journal prior to her death for the two of them. She made her husband vow that he would not read it. But he won't give them the journal because he fears what the girls might learn of her past. Matilda is leaving home to stay with her aunt because she is so upset with her father and claims she will not come back until she gets the journal. Jesse Stoltzfus is a farmer and son of the Bishop who helps out the girls dad on his farm also. He also likes Matilda and would like to court her. He tries to sooth the rift between the two. This was a very sweet, Christian story of tradition, love, family and forgiveness. 5 stars

I can't believe I actually finished reading this book. I really enjoy sexy romance books but this was the worst book I think I have ever read. It had no content whatsoever, just lust and sex. A woman who was just beat up by her ex is running away and puts her car in a ditch. One of the amazon type Sullivan brothers finds her and gives her a ride to his brother Marcus's Vinery mansion. I take it all the Sullivan men are some sort of Adonis's. In less then 24 hours, he is talking about doing a threesome with her and another woman, is then watching her do herself in the bathtub and watching her dry herself with a towel. In less than 48 hours they are having steamy sex. From then on, it is sex everywhere and everyway. To me this is just porn. The book has no story line, no plot. He falls in love with her in just 3 days, but claims it isn't just physical. The book was just unbelievable, unromantic and just plain stupid. I doubt I will ever read another one of her books again. I was being generous at one star. Should be negative 10 stars

I’m listening to Sudden Death by Allison Brennan, FBI Trilogy #1.

Savannah Kane, FBI agent and veteran Ryker Stone met 5 years ago for a very steamy one night stand. Yet each didn't even know the others names. Until now, when Samantha is at her best friends husbanda funeral and was one of Ryker's team members from Afghanistan. Both shocked to see each other after all this time and under such awful and suspicious circumstances. What happens next is so intriguing, mysterious, suspenseful and romantically steaming. This book is the most amazing book I have read in a long time. It literally kept me on the edge of my chair. All the twists and turns, ghosts coming back to life, Ryker's bells going off in his head. All I can say is WOW! The cast of characters are so strong and believable you feel like you are right there in the middle of all the action. I was honored to get a copy of this book. I would recommend it to all. Wish I could give it one hundred star review.

Christine is an independent woman who loves working on her families farm and riding her horse Dusty. The farm is in dire straights and her father wants her to marry the son of the Mayor who promises to pay out their debts and rebuild their farm. Henry makes her skin crawl and see's the evil in him. She knows if she would marry him, he would break her spirit and treat her cruelly. William lost his wife three years prior and is trying to keep his ranch going and raise his twin daughters. He is in deep mourning of his wife and just doesn't have much of a will any longer. His brother tells him he needs to move on for himself and his daughters. That they need a mother. His brother makes him attend a dance where he meets this lovely woman. In the middle of the dance, William gets choked up missing his wife and just leaves. Now a time later Christine answers a mail order bride add, not knowing who the man really is. She decides to not wait as her father will have her married off soon to Henry, so she packs up in the night and heads to the address this man sent. This story has many twists and turns in it that keeps you on your seat. A clean romance of two people who know they would be good for each other, but not willing to move on. The only thing I would have liked to have seen was the story could have been condensed. It got too long and drawn out. But all in all, a wonderful book. 5 stars

After the death of Margery Briley's mother, her father feels such terrible loss and is now forcing her daughter to marry after always telling her it would be her choice. Margery is not willing to marry this man her father is now doing business with. She can see through Ashley Paverton and knows he only wants to marry her for her father's business and money. He is also a very mean sort of man and he will only dominate and treat her roughly if she would marry him. So Margery takes off to Northumberland he claims he is from and where one of her aunts lives to check the story of this man and get proof of what sort of man he is. Before she gets there, she is taken by men from the McLound clan in Scotland. The Laird Durach is a good man but is curious as to why an English woman is creeping around on her own. He puts her to work with his other servants to find out if she is working as a spy. He finds her of course, lovely and fun. This is a predictable romance, but the twist and turns of the story are what keep you on the edge of your seat. The sexy level is about 35% heat and does not take away from the story. I really enjoyed the romance, the suspense and mystery of this book. I would recommend it as a great read but knowing it is a bit on the spicy side. 5 stars

We start with Berra, a young, pour Scottish farmer who gets caught up in the rebellion between the English and the Scottish. She finds herself caring for a Scottish soldier, Brodgar. Unbeknownst to her, he is really the nephew of a laird. His Uncle is a cruel man who wants nothing better than to keep Brodgar for taking his rightful place. This book is full or romance, a touch of spice, mystery and suspense. The characters are very well defined with a lot of charisma. Berra is a very independent, intelligent woman and does many feats to help Brodgar protect the Scottish, himself and his men. A wonderful read. I would certainly recommend it. 5 stars

I read this book as it was given to my son as he works for the Funeral Home in Mayville Wisconsin and worked on Jayne at the time of her death. Being just 20 miles from Mayville, I was excited to read about this woman. Jayne Blodgett Murray was a very intriguing, colorful woman. She came to know some very famous people in her past during her time of modeling, and her politics. She rubbed shoulders and sometimes rubbed more than noses with some rich and famous people including JFK before he became married and president. He book starts from her childhood in Mayville to California, New York and then back to Mayville where she passed on. She was a great writer, artist and decorator. Many of the photo's in her book where taken by her famous photographer grandfather CW Docter. I very much hope to go to Mayville and visit her beautiful B & B and the Limestone School. What an amazing book about an amazing woman. 5 stars

This story is about two small twins who have recently lost their mother and won't speak to their father because of a promise they made to her before she died. Johanna has lost just about all herself after caring for her dying father. She lives with a very possessive mother. She is now teaching a summer class for 1st graders. What a shock for her when Lily and Rose come in saying she is the mother they have been waiting for to come back. As their father, Michael Ashton meets Johanna, the resemblance in uncanny. How can this be just a coincidence? "Mariah" is an antique magic ball that the girls grandmother Sophia gave them. Only they know the true magic it has. This story has so many twists and turns, mystery intrigue, romance, love, forgiveness, etc. If it makes me cry, it has to be great. Another 5 stars of Barbara Freethy. Her books never cease to amaze me. I read this book so fast as I couldn't put it down. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

"If anyone can show just cause that these two should not be married..." The side door to the church opens and a woman walks in and says "I'm pregnant and this is your baby." Seven years ago Steven Corbett and Annette Trevetti's wedding came to abrupt end. Steven said nothing, and Annette left her rings and a ripped glove in the ministers room, left Tobias Wisconsin and never looked back. Present day finds her coming back to Tobias after her brother Max fell at his job and needs help with bruises and a broken arm to run his business. The Corbett's run most of the town, so she is not surprised when she has her first run in with her ex-finance' at the hospital that he has hands in everything. Annette has made a life for herself and just wants this to be done and over with so she can leave. I LOVED this book. It had a great story line, well defined and believable characters. I loved little Nell and Miss Trudi. There are some spicy moments, some real twists and turns. A real page turner. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Excellent! I also loved this book because I am from Wisconsin and could relate to weather, small towns, etc.+ 5 stars

19 year old Eliza turns down a proposal and then is sent to her aunts in Maybrook, a Puritan town as the man Thomas Beesley is saying awful things. Eliza loves her aunt and her way of life, which is simple and wholesome. Until the night of an awful storm that lead to the death of her aunt Maeve. After finding her, she runs out into the storm to find a man on a horse to rescue her. What is he doing there? Is he the murderer? Both of them find themselves in jail charged with the murder. Jonathan Porter is the son of the colorful and mysterious woman who died over 20 years ago and was raised by Aunt Ruth. Eliza is hearing a voice beckoning her, believing it to be Helena Talbot. This book was a fun, exciting read. Full of mystery, some ghosts, suspense and of course romance. So many of the characters become intertwined with each other, its very exciting. The ending was a complete shock to me. I would definitely recommend this book. 5 stars

A sweet story with mountain charm and some magic tossed in. On Angelina's 13th birthday she blows out the candle and sings the words to an old love charm that has been passed down for centuries. On her 21st birthday, it's said, she will find the love of her life. Angelina has not had much belief in the old Appalachian magic charms since her father died and her mother is struggling with cancer. So when Dylan Thomas arrives on her porch on her 21st birthday to do an article regarding mountain witchcraft, he is met by a woman holding a shot gun at him. This book was filled with love for family, traditions, sweet romance and forgiveness. The characters are so strong and believable. A menagerie of relationships with all of them written so beautifully and touching. I really loved this book and would definitely recommend it to all. 5 stars
