Henrietta wants to break the norm and become a doctor. Ewan, the Marquess of Peterborough is still grieving over the loss of his wife and son during childbirth. Henrietta's father is going to tame her and get her past her silly notions one way or another by forcing her to marry. Ewan's parents are going to force him to marry to get him out of his grief. Neither one knows of each other or have seen each other. What a surprise on their wedding day when he lifts her veil and she looks like his late wife. Both are appalled by each others behaviors. Letters are being delivered to Henrietta and her father threatening the welfare of Henrietta if she continues with her medical inquiries. Incidents begin to happen that they find are not a coincidence. Working together, Henrietta and Ewan begin to have feelings for one another. This book was so much fun to read. I loved the independence and straight forwardness of Henrietta and the bantering between her and Ewan. All of the characters are so well defined and strong. I felt like was in the midst of the story. A clean, fun, historical romance with mystery and suspense. I just loved it. I would highly recommend this book. 5 stars
It’s release day for Hideaway by Nora Roberts and here’s my review. I really enjoyed this story, especially listening to it as it’s narrated by the fabulous January LaVoy, though you should know the suspense element is low. It’s more contemporary romance with suspense elements.
I finished listening to The Summer Set by Aimee Agresti and I liked it but didn’t love it. But, it offered some fascinating insights into the theater world. Here’s my review.
I finished listening to In Five Years by Rebecca Serle and couldn’t put it down, finishing it the same day. Be forewarned it is not a traditional romance in the least so set your expectations accordingly. I loved it, though. Here’s my review.
I’m listening to Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson.

Marla is a rich heiress who just wants to find a man who will love and care for her for her being herself and not for her title and money. She decides to become a mail order bride. Jake is a wealthy rancher after inheriting the ranch after his father passed away. He he is also tired of women throwing themselves at him for only his name and wealth. He answers the letter from Marla and over the months of corresponding, find that they truly care for each other. Marla heads west to become Jake's bride. Unfortunately, neither one discloses before the marriage who they really are and the wealth they both have. Bring in a doting, cruel, bitter mother and a spurned women who wanted to be Jake's wife for his title and money. Angela and Catherine are so cruel and hateful to Marla to the point of blackmailing her. When the lies from Marla and Jake surface, the storms brew for all of them. I really enjoyed this book and so disliked Angela and Catherine. I would never be as forgiving to either of them. Would have banished them off the ranch and out of Jake's life forever. Marla acted very immature and dishonest to Jake. She also should have gotten what she deserved. So, this was a very emotional book for me in many ways. It had the clean romance, suspense and emotions of a good book. The only con for me was that is was too drawn out. I felt it could have been condensed and still be a great book. I would certainly recommend it.

Dorothy comes back to Cherish, SC to play at her brothers wedding. She is hiding secrets and pain. Ryan Edwards is coming from Italy to sing for his best friend's wedding. He too has many secrets and pains. Both of the characters once had feelings for each other in the past until their dreams, talents and ambitions took they to other parts. Now to be again together in a small town reignites those feelings. But there are issues and obstacles in the way for a future together. This a wonderful, spiritual, clean romance with obstacles and surprises. A very inspirational short story. I really enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it. 5 stars

I finished listening to Problem Child by Victoria Helen Stone, Jane Doe #2, and loved it. It’s a bit different from the first book but Jane is still a fascinating character. Here’s my review.

Jenny is the lady's maid to Susan. Jenny has to get to a ball that Susan is at to deliver an important letter to her that may change her life and Jenny's. Jenny dresses as a lady using Susan's dresses and jewelry to get into the ball. She is stopped by the handsome Duke of Beaufort, Benjamin Dowding. He is quite taken with her and will search high and low to find her after the ball. Susan and Jenny begin a dangerous game with having Jenny dress up as a lady to meet with the Duke. Jenny knows this will end badly, but she has fallen so in love with Benjamin and the fantasy with all the wrappings that she just can't stop. And the Duke has been quite taken with Jenny. This was a very fun book to read. It has the historic romance, suspense and intrigue. The main characters are believable and well liked for the most part. I felt Susan and Jenny to act very immature at times. As much as I liked the book, I felt that there was way TOO much description and not enough dialogue. It became tedious reading the same thoughts described. I would have liked more background on the the Duke's father and the parents of Jenny. I was very disappointed at the end because it totally skipped over so much that SHOULD have been more described. The book could have been condensed a lot and still have the poignant story line. But all in all, it was a very interesting read. 3 stars

Twenty years after her accident, Cady is back to her hometown caring for her grandmother. The eccentric, former movie star Lora JorDan. Cady lost her memory at the time of the accident and hopes to get to the real truth now that she is back. It was said she was the one to kill Jeff King, the bully who constantly terrorized her. Her friends from back then still live in her home town and they feel reluctant that she is back. What if she gets her memory back? Will it end their guilt, or will it tear apart their lives as they know them? The new chief of Police 'Boomer' Ward was there with Jeff at the accident. So why is he so sweet and nice to Cady? This book was one of Fern Michael's best!! It kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing what would happen next. It was hard to put the book down. The ending was amazing. I never could have guessed it. All of the characters were so strong and believable. The suspense and mystery was fantastic. She paints the setting perfectly. There is the romance, but it actually isn't the main theme of the story. I just loved this book. I would give it more than 5 star review if I could. Magnificent!!
I finished The Second Home by Christina Clancy, a strongly atmospheric story with even more compelling family themes. Here’s my review.

You won’t be disappointed. I put this series right up there with Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews books. It’s fantastic!

An inspirational Historical Romance. Mary Stubbs is a new widow and is now the sole owner of the Stubbs ranch. Just about every man wants to buy this ranch and all its rich land. They are shocked and bewildered when Mary decides not to sell and run the ranch herself. The men from the area will do short of nothing to persuade her. Even to the point of doing it criminally. Tobias Wheeler is the brother of Mary's dear friend. He is one of those men who desperately wants this ranch. But Tobias finds there is more to Mary and has a decision to make. His affections are growing for this bold, ambitious woman. Is he willing to lose Mary to gain the ranch, or is the ranch less important than a life with Mary? The story was a good one. Held mystery, suspense, romance and forgiveness.
The only reason it did not get a 5 star rating is because the proofing and editing in this book was atrocious. Also, some of it got a bit out drawn and the dialogue and description was too repetitive. But I would still recommend it. 4 stars

Lutie and Fate McFee's lives have been anything but happy and perfect. Their mother died when Lutie was quite young and their alcoholic left for Vegas a couple of years ago, leaving the two with his ex-girlfriend/guardian Floy. When their guardian Floy dies checking out at Walmart, the two decide to head to Vegas to look for their father. This was the last address Floy ever had. Lutie is only 15 and Fate is 12. This is such a riveting book. It is realistically disturbing. What the two main characters had to endure all alone. It was so emotional for me thinking and believing how many orphans and runaways have to live like this in real life. Do they all find their guardian angels? No. The subject matters in this book are so poignant and heart wrenching. I had a hard time putting this book down. It made me laugh at times, certainly cry a lot, and at times clench in horror. This story is a real eye opener. I would certainly recommend it. More than 5 stars

Lord Samuel Belston has found himself accused of murdering his father by his uncle. Claiming he wanted to take over as Duke and get his inheritance now instead of waiting. Samuel loved his father so and never cared about all that came with being the Duke. He just wanted to spend the time he had with his father as fully as possible. Samuel needs to flee and try to find the real murderer. Delilah DeWitt is a charming young Lady who lives a quiet life with her father and sister running their apple orchards. Delilah goes to market every day to sell the apples. Here she meets the dashing Lord Belson. But his alias is Mr. Black. He begins working for Mr. DeWitt picking apples hoping to hide and get evidence to his fathers murder. Delilah begins helping Samuel in his quest for innocence. This story is a sweet, clean historical romance with a great deal of suspense and mystery. The characters were strong and well defined. I found it a fast read and very enjoyable. Excellent! 5 stars

The second in the series. I didn't read the first one, but it came off wonderfully as a stand alone. Penny and Sam are as different as night and day. But are they really? Both have issues from their pasts, but both have strong family bonds. Sam wants to take every moment and live it to the limit in case it is snatched away. Penny is very conservative and plans every moment. All the characters are believable facing every day life issues. A slow burning romance with love of family and some suspense and mystery. Just the way I like them. I would certainly recommend this book. 5 stars

A short novella of how a sheriff rescues a today's day Cinderella. Olivia comes speeding into Oak Bluff on Sheriff Cash Hawkins usually quiet shift. Olivia is on the run from an almost fiance and ends up being arrested. The next night she is caught by Cash breaking into his mothers home. Other than for being lousy in relationships, Olivia is a gritty, independent woman. Cash enjoys his small town, quiet job and is dog. Olivia is holding a secret and Cash is determined to find it out. This was a fun novella to read. Romance, laughter, and mystery. 5 stars

Alec is next for Laird in his clan but chooses to pirate the seas for the good of others. A Robin Hood type of pirate. He is notorious for plundering the wealthy and giving it to those in need. Grace lost the love of her life two years ago and just makes ends meet in her town. Many men wish to have her as their own, so when Alec comes upon her screaming when one of those men decided to take her then and now he whisks her away to his ship. The life on the open sea is nothing like Grace could ever imagine. And Alec having a beautiful woman on board his ship is nothing he could ever imagine. Romance, attraction, appreciation, respect and compassion bud between them. This story was a good spicy, historical romance book with some mystery and suspense thrown in. I found it did get to over drawn and felt it could have been condensed and still have kept a good story line. I found myself skimming over parts as they kept repeating themselves. It got old real fast about their attraction and lust for one another. But all in all, a good book. 4 stars

Princess Tatiana or Tanya as she is known in the beat up saloon has been treated badly pretty much as she can remember. She doesn't know what a happy fulfilling life is except now she has a chance to actually own and the run the bar she has been enslaved to. The Kind of Cardinia has now abducted and his son Stafan is to find the women he has been betrothed to since her birth. But unfortunately, no one knows where she is and if she is still alive. So Stafan and his men take off for the states to find her. He is appalled that he even needs to marry and with his scars on the outside and inside, he has given up hope for a beautiful woman. What will happen when the two meet? How could any person with no future and no breeding believe such a ridiculous story that she is the long lost princess and soon to become a queen in some foreign country? Tanya has no desire for such foolishness or this arrogant man who claims he his the princes right hand man. The story line was okay and I enjoyed the banter between them all. I felt Tanya started off as a very independent, wily female and I would have liked to have seen more of that. Unfortunately, the lust interfered. I felt it was too sexy for the story line. I found myself scanning pages to get past all of it to get back to the story at hand. I was disappointed as her books are usually very good.

A very fun historical, western romance. Sully is the new sheriff of two small towns and although his life has been exciting, he is looking at settling down. He puts an ad for a mail order bride. Geneva's family is starving and her parents decide to answer an add for a bride. They want better for her and can't keep trying to feed another adult. They come to like each other, but Geneva is afraid everything is going to be taken from her again. She keeps many secrets from Sully. There have been a series of bank robberies in the two towns and Sully is determined to find out what is going on. Being an ex US Marshall, he has the experience of sniffing out trouble. But the trouble is coming from a well know man in town. Not only the secrets, but the corruption that is going on has a way of dissolving trust between them. This was a wonderful book filled with clean romance, understanding, forgiveness, faith in God and each other. Add in some mystery and suspense and it is a great story. I would certainly recommend it! 5 stars

Brenda Novak in paperback
2nd book in the Dept 6 series. I didn't read any of the others and this can surely be read as a stand alone book. But I can't wait to read these others. This story takes you to the Mexican border. although it is a romantic, mystery, suspense book, it is an eye opener of racism in this country. UDA's are being murdered for no apparent reason other than someone hates aliens coming across into Arizona. Ranchers are tired of the mess, the drugs coming, human trafficking, etc. So for Bordertown's new Chief of Police, Sophia St. Claire to hunt down the person/s responsible is tough to say the least. It doesn't help that much of the town officials and others aren't too happy that she has been named the Chief. They would like nothing better that to see her fail. The bastard son of the wealthiest man in Bodertown, 6 ex-SEAL Rod Guerrero is called by his father to come and help. Rod has distanced himself from all the Dunlap's years ago after his mother and he were treated like scum. So why should he care? There is a past from high school days between Rod and Sophia. Both carry the baggage from that. How can these two work together to solve the crime. Finding out there is more behind all the murders and cover ups, they are determined to solve this. This was such an exciting book, I had a hard time putting it down. There was so much mystery, suspense, intrigue and of course, the romance. The characters were strong and well defined you felt like you were living right there in the midst of it. It is a book not only regarding racism, but also love, forgiveness and new beginnings. I would absolutely recommend this book. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. EXCELLENT!!
