Live results in spreadsheet:

For the past few years we've gone through a process of voting for and scheduling past reads from the group bookshelf and reading them as a side group. This is intended to work in conjunction with the group Read All the Books! challenge. It is not necessary to join the challenge to participate in this process.

We'll be voting and scheduling for three months at a time. We'll be scheduling two reads per month based on member votes.

1. Voting will take place in
-> November for January-March
-> February for April-June
-> May for July-September
-> August for October-December

2. Schedule will be posted by the end of the voting month

3. Books that have been read by the group (main or reread) in the 24 months prior to the scheduled period will not be eligible, and will not be listed on the form

The only thing you'll need is a gmail login. You'll be able to change and update your votes at any point during the voting process. Books will be listed as title, author, page count.

For all books on the group shelf, see the links at the bottom of Current Events.

5 of the top 6 I've already read... so Gods of Jad and Shadow needs to stay.

Memory, Achilles, and Mistborn would be fun to discuss in VBC as rereads. Hard no on Night Circus. I disliked it too deeply.

I would not mind if Nightingale and/or Blade bumped something out of top rank.

(My list for Ryan)

message 7: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 1991 comments I haven't the slightest interest in Fforde, Sanderson, or Gaiman.

Of the ones lurking around the top ten the most interesting are Song of Achilles and Rosewater, with Blade Itself a very distant third.

message 8: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3630 comments Huh. Memory is the only book of the top six which I have already read. I have the Mistborn on my TBR physical bookshelf, but I will definitely need a lot of lead time for that one. Otherwise, the afforded sounds interesting to me.

message 9: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments Anybody needs a vote for something? Out of the top 16 there is only one book I haven't read yet and would care reading. So I can vote for anything others need.

I've read the current top 7 and remember enough about them all to hold my own in a VBC chat to not have to reread them. Kinda undermining the spirit of this...

message 11: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 1991 comments There's one advantage of fairly consistently (4 years plus) keeping a 25% read record on these. Always something new to try out! ;)

Allison Hurd | 14182 comments Mod
i haven't voted for any yet, what do we want to read?

message 13: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 5876 comments for me it's Sabriel because it's in my TBR pile

An all Fantasy top 6 would be good, especially if we then decide to talk about the sf botm next year. It may result in more muggings in the emotional support room.

message 15: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 1991 comments Oh nooo, I'm already out of the loop with the in-jokes. Alas my Pacific time-ness!

I think if you click on the name of the book it would show if it was on your TBR. But those are a lot of books to click ;)

message 20: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 739 comments So far Across the Nightingale Floor is the only one in the top six I haven't read. Need to read The Blade Itself which is at seven.

Hoping we get The Song of Achilles for January, Across The Nightingale Floor for February, and The Blade Itself for March as I'd actually read those.

Here are the rereads for January-March 2022. Come talk about the schedule in the buddy read thread!

The Song of Achilles (352 pgs)
The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) (541 pgs)
A Memory Called Empire (462 pgs)
Across the Nightingale Floor (305 pgs)
The Blade Itself (517 pgs)

That list works for me.

message 28: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 979 comments I'll attempt Achilles (I DNF'ed it but mostly just because it was due at the library before I finished), Floor & the Blade Itself (both of which sit on my bookshelf unread). I have tried both Memory and Mistborn a few times each now and bounced off so probably best for me to leave those alone. Sabriel I've already read.

message 30: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Anyone who knows that they'll be (possibly) reading one or more of these, please let others know, so you can plan when to start! I'll be reminding about upcoming rereads like before, but I know that some people like to plan plenty in advance. And since there's always that question of whether people will start reading on the 15th or plan to finish then, let us know so everyone can synchronize their reading schedules! :)

(Many people already said what they'd be reading in the buddy read thread, so check there for what's already been agreed!)

message 46: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1259 comments "" Same here.

I mentioned this in another thread - the Official Re-read program has been working great for me lately. Six months in a row, I have read one of the two titles, so one book "assigned" for me to read in the middle of the month. Perfect

message 47: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments Bonnie, that's nice to hear! I was actually going to suggest that we stop doing this after 2022, because on the surface it looks like people love to vote but very few are actually reading the books. I don't mind doing the voting stuff, but it also feels like the BR system could easily work instead, possibly even better. I'll ask after we vote for Q4!

message 48: by Liane (new)

Liane | 136 comments Anna, I really like the reread program & voting. It engages me & helps direct my reading. Even though I don't always read at the same time as everyone else, I'm trying to get closer and add comments, though I often think mine are inane. Of last year's rereads, I read 7 of them in 2021-2022, but had already read 9 others previously. Of the remaining, several were in my house until the library reclaimed them.

I am not a BR person. I feel like the rereads welcome people who don't want to read in tandem.

Thanks for all your efforts, Anna. I appreciate them, truly.

message 49: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10423 comments OK, I will stop assuming and trust that as long as people vote they also want to keep doing this! But I will also keep asking at least once a year :D

message 50: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1121 comments Earlier I suggested voting only, with the results to be used by members as encouragement to start a Buddy Read for the books with whatever they think is enough votes.
