Anne (booklover6) I am on a shape shifter binge too, I think. I just love them. I've got stacks of them waiting to be read. I am really enjoying Cry Wolf.

message 52: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah I just realized that On the Prowl by Macinerney is the second book in the series.. and I haven't read the first.

Laura have you read the first one yet? Does it matter if I read the second before the first?

message 53: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 31, 2009 12:35AM) (new)

Just finished Hot Nights, Dark Desires an anthology with Sydney Croft. Now reading Mortal Temptations by Allyson James. Both are very good.

Really looking forward to the release of Desire Unchained and Passion Unleashed by Larissa Ione.

message 54: by Laura (new)

Laura | 97 comments No, I have both of them on order Jess...so I'm not sure about the order!

message 55: by Yz the Whyz (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 187 comments I guess I'll second Nichole in her favorable impression of Nora Robert's Circle trilogy. If you can get past the first book, the rest of the trilogy is excellent, most especially the third book.

message 56: by [deleted user] (new)

I enjoyed the first, not the second, and didn't bother with the third. May have to rethink that.

message 57: by Unapologetic_Bookaholic (last edited Feb 02, 2009 10:41AM) (new)

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I am starting my BOM reading and once I have read the required chapters. I am going to read the challenge books. So far I have started Pleasure Unbound,Working for the Devil, and Halfway to the Grave. My favorite so far is PLEASURE UNBOUND.

message 58: by Laura (new)

Laura | 97 comments Alright, so now that I'm done Witchling, I'm moving on to BDB and Dark Lover, which I am enjoying quite a bit more. I have Working for the Devil coming from PBS any day now, so I can jump on the book club bandwagon again soon.

message 59: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I just finished Jenna Black's Watchers in the Night. I finally found that book, and now I need to try to locate the next in the series.

I'm currently thinking of abandoning Witchling.. ugh..

And I might move on to either Tanya Huff's Blood Price or Patti O'shea In the midnight hour. I can't decide.

message 60: by [deleted user] (new)

Kenjii, the second Demonica is due out this spring!

Jess, I couldn't get into Witchling either :-( really don't get the raves over this author. Not like my TBR isn't overflowing anyway!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Just finished Amy Lane's Vulnerable The First Book of the Little Goddess Series. I loved it and quickly went and ordered the other two in the series. I also quickly read Frostbite A Vampire Academy Novel. I'm loving this series. Such good fun! Now I'm on to When Darkness Comes.

message 62: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Just started Neverwhere A Novel -- really good so far. Anyone else reading/read this?

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Bonnie wrote: "Just started Neverwhere A Novel -- really good so far. Anyone else reading/read this?"

Gaiman is a genius! I think that's probably my favorite of his books. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

message 64: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Very cool. :)

Have you read any Sean Stewart?

message 65: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) I finally got to start Moon Called. So far, so good!

message 66: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Bonnie wrote: "Just started Neverwhere A Novel -- really good so far. Anyone else reading/read this?"

I loved Neverwhere. It is second only to Stardust as my favorite Gaiman novel.

He also publised it as a graphic novel a couple of years ago. I collected the comic in individual isses and got the chance to read the story all over again!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Bonnie wrote: "Very cool. :)

No, I'm not familiar with him. Do you recommend him?

message 68: by B (new)

B | 82 comments I just finished Neverwhere -- excellent!!

I haven't read any Sean Stewart yet -- other than 50 pages of Perfect Circle online -- I intended just to read a few to see if I wanted to read it, and I was hooked.

So based on that, I might say yes, I recommend him -- but I don't know enough to make it a strong yes yet. :) It's waiting for me at the library, though, so I'll know soon.

message 69: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) I am currently reading The Mane Eventwhich is a very good, light, humorous shifter story. I am also close to finishing A Touch of the Beast which I think is really good! Now I want to read more of the Family Secrets series, though I don't normally read the Silhouette type books.

message 70: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Bonnie wrote: "I haven't read any Sean Stewart yet -- other than 50 pages of Perfect Circle...

Okay -- I'm further along with this book now. I definitely like Stewart's writing style. Funny and smart. The book's a little darker than I expected (not really, really dark, but not light and easy either) but still really good. (Don't want to give too much away, but happy to discuss with anyone one-on-one or in another thread if anyone's interested.)

message 71: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) Finished A Touch of the Beast and loved it. Finished Dead Over Heels loved it, too!

message 72: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I just finished Light My Fire and am now moving on to Holy Smokes. I hope it's as good as the others. :)

message 73: by B (new)

B | 82 comments I just started Sunshine -- REALLY like it so far. Just frustrated that there aren't any small chapters like in other books, so I can say "I'll go to sleep right after this chapter" -- I stayed up WAY too late reading last night! :)

message 74: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I loved Sunshine! That was a great read. I really like Con and I won't say anything more so I will not give it away.

I am reading The Promise of the Wolves by by Dorothy Hearst. It is interesting read especially since it is based like 14,000 years ago and it is really about wolves and people.

message 75: by B (new)

B | 82 comments I appreciate you not giving anything away Dawn. :)

message 76: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I don't know why.. but I hated and despised Sunshine lol. I think I may be the only person who didn't enjoy it. Let me know what you think Bonnie

message 77: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) I am 2/3 done with Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. What a great book! I hope to read the entire series this week.

message 78: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I am currently reading Conspiracy Game by Christine Feehan. I accidentally skipped the third book.. but that's okay. I have the next one ready and waiting for me. The next one is about Jack's brother I believe.. that will be awesome. :)

I also just finished Dark Prince by Feehan.. It was okay. I was interested in the premise of the story but Mikhail annoyed me a little too much. I'm going to read the next one.. but if all then men act like him I don't know how long I will last in the series lol.

message 79: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lexnick) Jess, is Dark Prince the first one in the series? I think I have that one and I've read Feehan's other series about the Drake sisters.

message 80: by Jess (last edited Feb 21, 2009 05:29PM) (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yes, Dark Prince is the first book in the Carpathian's series.. which I've recently found out there are like 20 books in that series alone lol.

The other book is part of her GhostWalker's series, which I have been enjoying.

I haven't had a chance to read her Drake series, how is that?

message 81: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lexnick) It gets drawn out in some spots but I thought it was action packed and Feehan can definitely write some steamy love scenes. lol

message 82: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I definitely agree with that statement!!! lol. Like I said, I only read the first book so far in her Carpathian's series, but I've heard mixed reviews. Not so much about her scenes, but that some of the women are too passive and the men are too dominant and old fashioned. I have the second book reserved in the library and I'm just waiting for it to be transferred over to my library.

But I definitely love the ghostwalkers series. I think it's because there are few books I've read that are similar to it.

message 83: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lexnick) I'll have to get those then. The Drake sisters though are definitely the dominant fixtures in those books though.

message 84: by Yz the Whyz (last edited Feb 21, 2009 06:03PM) (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 187 comments I love her Ghostwalkers series. My fave would be Jesse Calhoun, and boy, those Norton twins are just way HOT!

I've read all of the Dark books, and I would say some are better than others. Yes, the heroines can be too passive and the men are too dominant, and if you read them one after the other, there is a tendency to mix them up, because there are too many similarities.

I haven't read any of her Drake Sisters series yet.

message 85: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I am just about finised with The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I love that! In fact, I think that it would be a great group read. I would like to hear others opinions on it. It's a book that makes you think!

I also just picked up Kitty Raises Hell by Carrie Vaughn and am looking forward to starting that.

message 86: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Finished Sunshine. Really really liked it. Not sure what's next.... Possibly At Grave's End.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Jess wrote: "...I also just finished Dark Prince by Feehan.. It was okay. I own the first four of the Carpathians, but have only made it through the first two. The males are too overbearing for me. I decided to take a risk on the Ghostwalker series in January for a reading challenge, and quite enjoyed it. Much more balanced male/female relationships.

message 88: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Bonnie wrote: "Not sure what's next.... Possibly

Nope -- decided to go with [book:Magic Bites.38619" title="38619">At Grave's End
-- haven't read anything by Ilona Andrews yet. Looking forward to it.

message 89: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Kelley Anne, I just started listening to Hunger Games on audio, and I really like it. I've just gotten to the two picks from area 12 being on stage, so I'm not too far in yet.

I think it would make excellent discussion matter, since it is obviously going to be very deep and emotionally charged. Very much a political statement, too.

message 90: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I've been meaning to pick up Hunger Games but I haven't gotten around to it yet... too many books and not enough hours in the day to read them all.

message 91: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Feehan is really interesting writer after I read the first five Carpathian books and they all kind of were the same so I quit while I was ahead. All of the "You are my lifemate I can do nothing but secure your happiness" and the "need 'slams' into him" was getting to me. Plus I get all confused with the references I am like wait are they having sex or what?? Oddly though I think I will read more into the series because I hear she solves the mystery of the lack of babies and that interests me.

I do want to read the ghostwalker series I heard that was good.

I have just started reading the Dark Hunter series I think I am really liking Ash (he sounds conflicted and yummy what a great combo) now I want to just skip the other books and read his book every time I am at the library feel it eying me LOL - but I will be good and go in order.

Plus I picked up this book called [Book:Heart of the Wolf] by Terry Spear so far I have read the prologue and chapter 1 and it looks good. Has anyone read this one?

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Ash is amazing, you will not be disappointed there. And just think, you have all of those awesome Dark Hunter books to get through and then you get rewarded with Ash's own book. Good stuff!

I plan to get back to books 3 & 4 in the Carpathian series one day, as I'm quite curious about Gregori, but I don't think I have the stamina to get through the whole series, as it just doesn't grab me enough.

message 93: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I wish I was back at the beginning of the Dark Hunter series.. but alas I am waiting for Bad Moon Rising..

Anne - I have heard that about the Carpathians series.. I think I'm going to read it slowly with a lot of books in between so I don't get as bored lol

message 94: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Dark Heart: I was really wanting to read Gregori's book and I was not disappointed - he is a little different as you would expect but in my mind not in a bad way.

message 95: by [deleted user] (new)

Dawn, Maybe it was my mood, but couldn't get into Heart Of The Wolf by Spears, quit after a few chapters. I see she has a new book out.

Jess, We don't all have to like the same books! I loved Sunshine, but there are other books readers rave about that I don't like at all. It's all good! My theory...if we all like the same thing, there wouldn't be enough chocolate in the world for me!

message 96: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Denni it went downhill fast LOL
I did manage to finish it but this was not what I thought it would be, the narration was strange like in one moment she is like I am not going to be with Deven (sp?) and then the next page she is like he is my mate. Meanwhile I am thinking did I miss something I had to check the page numbers. It was really jumpy like that in lots of places. Thank goodness it is a library book.

Having said that I started The Gargoyle so of course I am into it and so far so good :>

message 97: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) In the last week or so I have finished Soul Deep,Dead Until Dark,Living Dead in Dallas,Ultimate Warriors,In Sight of the Enemy. All were good except Ultimate Warriors. Currently I am reading Blood Bound,Shifter, and Midnight Pleasures. All of those are good, too!

message 98: by B (new)

B | 82 comments Anne -- You finished all those in the last week or so?! Wow. You read more than one at a time it sounds like?

message 99: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) Yes Bonnie, plus a couple non-paranormals that I didn't list here LOL. I usually have more than 1 going at a time, I like to jump around unless something *really* grabs me. I'd rather read than do anything else!

message 100: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Unfortunately I have had to slow down my reading.. stupid graduate school has me doing all this nonsense work lol. March is going to be a rough month.. which means I won't be able to read as much which means I get crabby. Everyone look out!!! lol.
