Yeah, we're up to book 7 in that series now, with the release of Lover Avenged last month (and you have to read them in order - LOL!). Another brilliant UF series is Adrian Phoenix's The Maker's Song (A Rush of Wings and In the Blood). With only two books so far, you can easily catch up (and then wait impatiently for Beneath the Skin with the rest of us rabid fans). ;D

message 402: by Erin (new)

Erin Lol I'll send that next series to my dad. I'm so behind. Between finding new series to read and other series books coming out I'm just swamped with reading material. I'm not even really looking at most of the group reads except if they have a book in them that I have or is on my to read list already.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments I am reading Eileen Wilks tempting danger and I must say not really impressed. I feel like I am missing something like I missed something in the paragraph before. Weird

message 404: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) I am now reading Steelflower by Lilith Saintcrow

and Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green

They are a nice contrast.

message 408: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I'm reading Claimed By Shadow by Karen Chance.
I had read and liked Touch the Dark, but didn't love it, so it took me awhile to get around to reading the next one.
Well, no such problem here. I'm wondering why I waited so long! It's moving really quickly, but is so much less confusing than the first one was. I'm totally hooked, and finding Pritkin to be very very hot... screw Mircea!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Ooh, Shazzy, really? I wonder if my local has them - they're book section is pretty small, but that's a bargain. =D

message 411: by Erin (new)

Erin Nichole I know what you mean on the first and second books! That reminds me to go check if there is another one for me too read...

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Ok so I guess I need to read Claimed By Shadows to find out why everyone thinks Pritkin is so hot. I really liked Tomas too bad he was a traitor.

message 413: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Oh, Jael, I think if you like Tomas you'll like Claimed by Shadow...

message 414: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 60 comments I am reading Jacob only on page 30 and no opinion yet not good not bad. so well see

message 415: by Susan (new)

Susan (ofearna) I'm re reading Blue Adept by Piers Anthony... :-D

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Nichole I plan on reading it next month. The beginning of the first book was a little too much but it eventually settled into a good story. So glad Tomas is around for book 2. I love Mircea and i want to find out why Pritkin is a fan fave. i just didn't see it in book 1

message 417: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Jael wrote: "I love Mircea and i want to find out why Pritkin is a fan fave. i just didn't see it in book 1."

No, I think Chance gave him a make-over. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd intended him to be a villain/unlikeable character, and then ended up tweaking it based on some notes from her editor or something like that. She didn't change him a whole lot, but just sort of brought out some qualities... just read it! It's great.

message 418: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Currently reading Magic Burns. I've been reading it for two days and I'm only 80 pages in or so. I don't know why it's moving so slow for me - I've been liking it so far, but it just hasn't hooked me. Maybe it's the absence of any compelling characters outside of Kate. Little girl Julie isn't doing much for me. Will it pick up when Curran shows up?
I'm really trying to finish at least a few of my PNR challenge books, but I may put this one aside and read A Rush of Wings again. It's been, like 3 months since I read it the first time and that's too long!!!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Everything is better when Curran is around. ;)

message 420: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I just finished Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward. I really don't mind that the books have become more Urban Fantasy than PNR. I am really enjoying the story. And Rehv is hot!

I am in the middle of Ghostland by Jory Strong, Touch a Dark Wolf by Jennifer St. Giles, and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments I finished up City of Bones yesterday and quite enjoyed it. I'd like to carry on with the series, but they don't fit into my reading challenges for the month, so they'll have wait a week or so. I've just started C.E. Murphy's Urban Shaman, as I've had it recommended to me as someone who loves the Mercy Thompson series.

message 422: by Anna (new)

Anna (aknas22) | 349 comments Hi, I just started Unclean Spirits by MLN Hanover. It seems like it'll be good. Has anyone read it?

message 423: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Anna I read that book. It was definitely interesting. The concept of it was different than anything else I've read. the sequel is coming out soon I think.

Sarah | 766 comments Has anyone read Dhampir by Barb Hendee? [image error] Would you recommend it?

message 425: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) I definitely would reccemend Dhampire. Its a fantasy type book with vamps as a key element. I read all but the last of that series.

Barb has published a straight urban fantasy recently. I cant think of the name. I read part of it.

message 426: by Shanon (new)

Shanon (boban) Lily wrote: "Barb has published a straight urban fantasy recently. I cant think of the name. I read part of it. "

Could it be Blood Memories??? I haven't gotten my hands on that book yet. I want to though.

I really liked Dampir, #1 in Noble Dead series. The new series Noble Dead II was a little iffy for me during the first half of the book - but by the end I was into it too. It's a great fanatasy series, but if you're looking for PNR or UF you'll be disappointed with Dhampir.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments I read Blood Memories a few months ago and thought it was pretty good. It definitely felt like a book that was setting up a series rather than a solid stand alone story. I'll pick up Hunting Memories when it is released in the autumn.

message 428: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Just finished Curse the Dawn last night and I love how the plot and the relationships are progressing. The action blew me away and it's hard to believe that only a month has gone by since Touch the Dark. It's definitely one of my favorite series now. The characters are awesome--their personalities are so well drawn that I want to know more about everyone, even the peripheral characters!

And yeah, no matter how impossible it might seem in the first book, you will find yourself crushing on Pritkin. I think I'm more conflicted than Cassie is!

message 429: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Yay! Another Pritkin fan to join the club!

message 430: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Sarah, he just sneaks up on you, doesn't he?! Dammit!

just wait till you read Embrace the Night or Curse the Dawn... you ll totally love him :)

message 432: by Mel (last edited May 31, 2009 04:18AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1384 comments Oh and by the way Jael: if you love Tomas you have to read The Day of the Dead, an anthology from the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance. I read it from her site:

You ll love it, im sure.

message 433: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Day of the Dead was pretty good. I need to reread that one! I just finished Buying Trouble from On the Prowl. Same universe, but more from the Midnight's Daughter side of things. Definitely enjoyed it.

Has anyone read Eileen Wilks' books? Read a short in Cravings, I believe, that I liked. But her story in On the Prowl fell flat. Any opinions on World of the Lupi on the whole?

message 434: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments Tempting Danger, the first Lupi book, was picked for me to read as a challenge in another group. I've read the first couple of chapters, and so far I like it. It shows promise.

message 435: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Thanks. I felt that way with the shorts (that there was great potential in the worldbuilding), but the characters and description of powers just lacked any oomph. Might just be that she has issues with short stories...

message 436: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments I haven't met all the players in Tempting Danger yet, so I'll try to let you know what I think as I get further in.

message 437: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Cool, thanks!

message 438: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) Sign me up as a Pritkin fan.

Shannon, yes the book I was thinking of was blood memories. I tried to finish it twice but her power really urked me, and my feminist soul and try as I may I just kept putting it aside. I got 3/4 through it the second time i tried. However, I am the only person i have heard who doesn't like it so I would definitely check it out. Everyone else seems to like it. Blood Memories

Currently reading
In the Courts of the Sun by Brian D'Amato
The Stand (The Complete & Unabridged Edition) by Stephen King
Staked (Void City, Book 1) by J.F. Lewis

message 439: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 1619 comments I am so excited! I have just recently started entering for the goodreads giveaways, and I won a new book! The book is called The Dragon's Eye Erec Rex by Kaza Kingsley. It really looks pretty good, plus there is a sequal, which I always love! Whenever I enjoy a book, I always want another one! I love just getting more and more stories about the characters that I have already come to care about.

message 440: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jessim) I finally got a chance to read At Grave's End and I am having a really hard time putting it down it is so good!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 437 comments Started Rogue yesterday. Read Stray for a challenge a month or so ago and really liked it. So, I've got Rogue and Pride on one of my challenge lists for the month, in preparation for Prey's release next month. I'm loving Faythe and Marc.

message 443: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Oh those Argeneau men. Yum. And Marguerite is hilarious.

I love Lucien.

message 444: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments I'm 90 pages into The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. I'm hooked.

message 445: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Oh, Sarah, that looks good! A friend just started reading it and is enjoying it too. It's planned as a trilogy.

message 446: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 766 comments I'd recommend it. It's got that creepy, claustrophobic feel that only the really good horror/suspense writers can do. Well written and compelling characters so far.

message 447: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments Well you know with Guillermo involved, it's got to be creepy and imaginative!

Finished Undead and Unwelcome...too short! Now what to read? I want to read the newest Sookie, but it's like I keep saving it, not wanting to lose the anticipatory thrill just yet!

message 449: by Mary (new)

Mary | 7 comments Starting to read Incubus Dreams, I don't know about everyone else, but I love this series!! I started reading after I read the Sookie series and have not been able to stop, I will be sad when I have read all 17 and have to wait for the next one :)
