message 1104: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Andrew Lawston's first line was "While I prepared to poison my girlfriend, I sorted through the previous day's post, tutting at the number of takeaway menus they were still sticking through the letterbox in spite of our polite sign asking them not to."

The Troll line was Andy Barrett's. NOT his usual thing!

message 1105: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Well, they say you should 'write what you know'...

For tweeting purposes, I'd suggest ending on "takeaway menus", or even "post" if you're putting a link in.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That's why I've not been able to find any of your ex-girlfriends on-line eh? ;)

message 1120: by Jim (last edited Oct 08, 2012 02:15PM) (new)

Jim | 21776 comments Well the first line from my contribution is

"After seventy-nine years, it all ends here."

Not sure if it tells anyone anything or not.

Not sure if the whole piece is long enough to take a quote from :-(

message 1121: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I'm getting a bit lost - which are real quotes from the book and which are people having a chat? Perhaps we should tweet our own and start a hash tag?

I propose #Salmagundi

message 1122: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments The hashtag is a great idea, but perhaps we should hold fire on doing this until the book is actually launched? I think our tweets will be more effective when there's a proper call to action in them (i.e. buy the book). And then the #Salmagundi hashtag will look like a wonderfully strange conversation - it will be like walking through the maddest party ever, picking up snippets of other people's lives!

message 1123: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Ignite wrote: "By the way, how are you getting on?"

Progressing. It's more about tweaking now than major formatting. I'll be sending you over a file to email to your kindle to see what you think by (or over) the weekend.

I'm also designing the poster and programmes for the local drama society production, so it's all a bit manic at the moment. Oh, and there's the kids as well of course.

message 1124: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I agree, a push once it's launched would be most effective. If we blitz twitter with quotes and hashtags after launch, people might think 'Ooh, I read that somewhere last week, so it must be good.'

message 1125: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments I'm getting quite excited now. Actually, that's a lie. I'm very excited!

message 1126: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments Rosen wrote: "I agree, a push once it's launched would be most effective. If we blitz twitter with quotes and hashtags after launch, people might think 'Ooh, I read that somewhere last week, so it must be good.'"

Yes! If we coordinated every author in the book and we all tweeted loads of times on the same day, all including #Salmagundi, that might draw in quite a lot of curious people.

Team Salmagundi, synchronise your twitter-watches!

message 1127: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments You have all just given me the motivation I needed to become a 'Twit'!

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I've been a twit for a while now.

Watch synchronised!

message 1129: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Coordination sounds almost like a plan - count me in :-)

message 1130: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I'm far too disorganised to be synchronised, but I will certainly be plugging the collection pretty hard across all channels once the book's released, and the hashtag seems like a good plan.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I don't remember how mine started. It all seems so long ago....

I think it was something about a railway station.

Has anyone heard how the bloke who is trying to beat the skydive record is getting on.?

message 1132: by Kay (Golden Girl) (new)

Kay (Golden Girl) | 2193 comments I am so looking forward to Salmagundi will certainly plug it as I know it will be great with all you wonderful writers but I am not going to be a twitter ,my daughter Twits so will make her do it ,do we have a date when it will be out ?

message 1133: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments I not on twitter either, but I'll facebook it!!!

message 1134: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The date depends on how much Darren still has to do, Kay. He only has evenings to fit it in - and I'm afraid I'm a bit random in the things I've rationalised or left different when I send it to him. I don't make it easy for him!
