- Nice callback to the first book, where the roles were reversed. Also, to the first spell they ever learned.

It was like having one big buddy-read with hundreds, even thousands, of people. I know many of you friended and followed me because of my "Harry Potter" updates, and I hope you decide to stick around for what comes next :)

I hate how they made Ron look stupid in the Fiendfyre scene in the movie. Then again, which Potterhead doesn't hate how Ron was treated in the films?

I DON'T disagree that they destroyed Ron's character in the movies. That said, they definitely were in a lose-lose situation with their casting choices. If they would have kept his character equal to the books, Ron's entire character in the movies would have blown Harry's away. He would have been an afterthought next to Ron.

Incidentally, decent paladins are sadly in short supply these days.

I think it works better in books to have a character essentially be a blank slate for the reader to project themselves onto. It's essentially a trope now in YA books that the usually female lead is sort of a blank slate. Movies are different, and I can see your point about toning down Ron. Ron's sort of like the bridesmade here in an aquamarine dress, made ridiculous so the bride looks prettier.
