The impacts are similar to the impacts we see in our own world day-to-day, year-to-year, even century to century. Using the term "moralistic viewpoint" incorporates the implication of a single "moral" viewpoint, but across the body of my work, a discerning reader can find that the "moral viewpoint" of a protagonist in one book is considerably different from the protagonist in another. The one consistency that I will admit to is that from a practical point I believe, and my characters tend to illustrate, extremism in any form of belief system paves the road to disaster.

As for the emphasis on ethics... research has shown that human beings do have a rough internal ethical system. I just write about how individuals handle ethical problems.(less)

Part of the reason why I told it that way was because, particularly in many western nations, there's an underlying assumption that cultures get less sexist as they develop... and history shows that such is not necessarily the case. Cultures change, and some become less sexist, and some become more sexist. From what I've seen, cultures and societies become more conservative and more sexist when they feel threatened or when conditions are worsening. Cyador is definitely declining when it becomes more sexist. (less)

Anyone Can Do That

The other day I received an email from a faithful reader who noted that he had stopped reading The Soprano Sorceress because the song magic was "too easy." Over the years I've received other comments along the lines that all she had to do was open her mouth and sing.

Right. Except that under the magic system in Erde, the song had to be perfectly on pitch and in key; the words had to specify what
