Publisher’s Note: If you’re looking for a super SWEET omega verse with enthusiastic consent before action, this is NOT the book for you. Prey is a FANTASY (not even vaguely close to the real world) book on the medium-dark scale of omega verse with LOTS of domestic discipline (think hands and belts) and consent driven by the heroine/hero response to pheromones. Trust that our heroine is a sweet and stubborn brat, and if she gets into a tussle with her mates, it’s so she can test they’re worthy. Our heroes embrace their role in claiming and protecting their mate seriously and adore their sweet charge.

I am prey.
This is not pity talking, this is an acknowledgment of a fact.
I am small and weak; I am an Omega. I am a prize that men war over.
For a year I have hidden in the distant corner of the Empire.
But I am running out of food, and I am running out of options.
That I must leave soon is not a decision for today, though, but a decision for tomorrow.
Only tomorrow's choices never come.
For tonight brings strangers who remind me that I am prey.

I’m in shock. Here’s a few quotes to explain my distress:

”Omegas should be claimed, must be claimed—it is the law. An unmated Omega is a temptation and a nuisance the Imperium could do without.

“She isn’t merely slight, she’s nothing but skin and bones. I want to welt her ass for taking such poor care of herself, as irrational as that is.We’ll feed her and care for her now, as is our duty. In return, she will give us her body, and, gods be willing, children.

“Eat the food or you will be getting your first taste of the strap. Nate’s mash is grim fare, but you will enjoy it a lot more than discipline.

“Dax, despite his gruff outer shell, has no more heart for disciplining this sweet little Omega than I do. Still, we must all toe the line where her safety and welfare is concerned.

“I do not want to be the one to discipline her. I suspect Silas knows as much, and that is why he’s forcing this. She’s petite, helpless, and her safety depends upon her obedience. Further, it will aid bonding her to us.

“She needs to understand that she is ours now, and the discipline is part of that.

“You can’t! I didn’t do anything! Tears are pooling in her eyes. “You thought about it, I say coldly.

“I’ve welted a girl’s ass enough times in my short life to know how it’s done. Sometimes it’s light and playful and intended to stoke their arousal. Sometimes it is sharp and intended to get an important point across. I’m deluding myself—it is always sexual. There’s no way to have a woman twitching under the sting of your hand or belt and not be aroused. Watching their pretty ass turn red is a deeply captivating sight.

“This is for your own good, I say as I bend her over the wide oaken table that dominates the room. “You aren’t ignorant of what is happening here. We are Alphas, and you are an Omega. You must be reminded of your place. She struggles, but I’m stronger and it does her no good. “An Omega obeys her Alphas. Your father is gone, and we are your Alphas now.

15% in aaaaaannnndddd I’m out. This patriarchy bullshit is not for me.

Men treating women like little kids who need “discipline for their own good (even punishing their mere thoughts!), who are hoping to trigger her heat to force her into sex with them (it’s called rape, in case someone is wondering). None of this is sexy or hot. It’s sickening and an example of the disease that sexism inflicts upon our society.

A woman wrote this, and many other women enjoyed it. The Patriarchy won with this one.

Really not for me and I enjoy alphas and Dom/sub when they are done well, but this just had no chemistry, it read like it was written for men and by a man, the woman was just their to be used, if she doesn’t do anything she’s told they beat her, that isn’t punishment or dominance it’s abuse and the fact she’s constantly referred to as small, weak and lesser. ! Their was no connections between characters, it was just sex and that wasn’t written well or appealing, no real plot. If it was sold as just an erotic short read I’d understand, but this is being sold as a book/novel but for me it needs a plot and likeable characters with connections to be that. I’d pass this by if you’re looking for substance and if you just want an erotic read there are still better out there.

3.5 A Vision of Depravity Stars

I must admit that I am not an avid fan of the whole Omegaverse Romance Genre nor do I claim to be well versed in it. Now whether that affects my appreciation or my rating for this book, I don’t really know. What I can say is that it was hot and when combined with a reverse harem, I did in fact like it. Love it? Not wholeheartedly.

I AM PREY. This is not pity talking; this is an acknowledgement of a fact. I am small and weak; I am an Omega. I am a prize that men war over.

In a world where Omegas are rare and sought after by Alphas and all kinds of ruffians, Belle has been hidden away for years. However, with the death of her father a year prior, she is at her most vulnerable. Combined with the incapability of looking after herself, she is an easy target. Here is where feminists shouldn’t even bother

It’s by chance that three men of the Imperium Guard stumble across Belle when in search of refuge. Two Alphas and one-half Alpha shifter, it is within their right to claim her. Although they try and tread carefully with Belle, it is a race against the clock to bring on her mating heat. Silas, Dax and Nate must act quickly to claim and mate her in order to keep Belle safe.

There was a lot to like about Prey. There is something extremely naughty about having to breed a woman through her mating heat and with the selection of dicks on offer, it was very appealing. I think the plot was a little thin and the whole disciplinary actions for merely breathing got a little tiresome. The introduction of an extra mate was a nice twist. Overall, this author has captured my attention and I have no doubt I’ll read more when I need a fantasy kick.

A Reverse harem omegaverse that was incredibly juvenile, with zero plot. This was smut without any kind of emotional connection.
Omegas should be claimed, must be claimed-it is the law. An unmated Omega is a temptation and a nuisance the Imperium could do without.
The men “punish her every single day for just questioning them. She is disciplined for thinking about running away. Not even trying to run away, just thinking about it and again for leaving the house without shoes on!!! They beat her with a belt that leaves raised welts on her ass. But this is sexy and she likes it, so it’s ok. So disturbing.

3.5 stars. ETA: Rounding down to 3. I can enjoy reverse harem, but this series is more smut heavy vs. plot heavy. I prefer the amount of plot that is in this author's Controllers series. Honestly, I feel conflicted since I adore the world and world-building, I just wish there was more plot and deeper characterization.

Reverse Harem Omegaverse is not my preference, but I didn't hesitate to try this book since I enjoyed the MFM dynamic that was in Lilly's trilogy (starting with ) so much. I absolutely recommend this book to readers who like RH Omegaverse. I'm finicky with RH in general. What I really need from it in Omegaverse is for it to have strong world-building and L.V. Lane is always great at providing that. I was pleasantly surprised to see she chose a medievalesque fantasy setting too! I cracked up to find out all the Alphas were soldiers, belonging to the Imperial Guard. Anyone who has played Skyrim will recognize that name along with 'General Tullius' & 'Ulfric Stormcloak.' So this book felt like it started out on a quest, the Imperial Guard on the hunt, deep in the Empire, looking for the rebel Stormcloaks led by Oswold. Soon the men of the Imperial Guard stumble upon a lone Omega, and their journey is thwarted. (There aren't really Stormcloaks in this book, but I'm rounding up my rating since this is the first Overse book that reminded me of Skyrim.)

I found Belle v. likable. The right mixture of sweetness with a little bit of sass. L.V. Lane's RH is fun to read because she does the relationships between all the guys well. She hits just the right note of domineering but protective between the Alphas & Omega. I think the MFM dynamic in Lilly's trilogy will remain my favorite because there was just so much going on: An ongoing war, political intrigue, secret research programs, and a developing new dynamic. Unlike other RH in the genre that seem to throw in a bunch of Alphas and try to make it as brutal as possible, I felt the implications of 2 Alphas sharing an omega were fully explored. I can't wait for , but my hackles are raised at the mention of a new Omega around Ethan😂.

I have no idea if this author was inspired by Skyrim, but I adored the setting in this book and I'm looking forward to Priya's story.

Perhaps the book has been updated, because I can't say I noticed any typos or grammatical errors mentioned in other reviews. I did notice the author is British, as am I, so it might just be that she wrote using our grammar, wordage and spelling. All I can say is "Suck it up buttercup" because we have to mentally translate all those books written to suit the American market. 😂

I found this to be a really fun, light read, very low on angst between the main protagonists but with a nice amount of peril thrown in to add enough interest. It was an "easy" read, one that doesn't feel like an effort or need a lot of brain power but one that entertains nevertheless.

The male characters were clearly distinct from one another and had defined personalities, which many authors fail to achieve in stand alone RH stories. The story arc involving the Blighten needed just a bit more fleshing out and progressing a little further. There needed to be just a few more mentions and the slow drip feeding of more details so that by the end I was invested in that part of the story line.

The time spent building the male characters and developing each individual relationship with Belle did feel like it came somewhat at the expense of plot development. We seemed to spend a lot of time at Belle's cottage, with the journey to her new home feeling rushed. Moving some of that character building so that it took place during the journey, would have made the book feel more balanced to me. That said, I did like how the Silas and his brothers gently led Belle into her first heat rather than just forcing her into anything and that did require a slower pace.

Belle really amused me, even if she was occasionally stroppy and frequently bratty, and almost just for the sake of it. There were times when I was cheering her on with this - especially when she was thwarting the brothers' attempts at disciplining or controlling her. In fact I loved that wilful and belligerent streak, it was fun to see Silas, Nate, Dax and Bram realise that they might own her body, heart and soul but they would never truly control her.

Personally I would disagree with the view that there is no/little world building in the book. It isn't the most complex and layered one, but there is a distinct feel to the society/world in which the books is set along with what life is like. It is omegaverse and as such there are innate rules and expectations, just as there are for an MC or mafia book. I wouldn't expect any of those tropes to explain the rules/expectations in great detail to me.

I did find myself believing in the connection between Belle and her men. Did it feel rushed? At times yes, but a good deal of that is part of the alpha/omega bonding dynamic rather than poor writing. The bite and resulting bond opens up an emotional connection and that aspect was very nicely portrayed throughout the story. I would definitely read more work by this author.

Triggers, notes, and warnings:
If you're looking for a super SWEET omega verse with enthusiastic consent before action, this is NOT the book for you.

If you're uncomfortable with spanking / belt for NO reason other than the hero decides it, then this is NOT the book for you.

Prey is a FANTASY (not even vaguely close to the real world) book on the medium-dark scale of omega verse with LOTS of domestic discipline (think hands and belts) and consent driven by the heroine/hero response to pheromones.

Belle is an omega, a fantasy race, not human. What she wants and needs, and how she reacts to things are also not human.

Trust that our heroine is a sweet and stubborn brat, and if she gets into a tussle with her mates, it's so she can test they're worthy. Our heroes embrace their role in claiming and protecting their mate seriously and adore their sweet charge.

I liked this series opener. I feel like RH Omegaverse works if there is a group takes a mate dynamic in the world building to stop issues of possessive alphas not being able to share, and L.V.'s handles that well. I liked that familial groups takes an omega together and that's what ties families together and strengthens family bonds for decades to come.

I loved Belle. She was sassy and snarky, willing to stand up for what was right, and fiercely protective. She had an omega's submissiveness but was still able to keep her Alphas on their toes. She definitely earns herself plenty of spankings but hot steamy times as well.

I loved the Alphas. Silas the strong leader, Dax the gentle giant, Nate the silly easy-going one, and then Bram the refined yet dark one. I loved how well each character stood apart and separate from each other. I liked Nate being a shifter, and in this world there were alphas and shifters as well. I didn't think I would like Bram coming into the already established relationship but he won me over.

I liked the fantasy medieval storyline and thought it fit well with the Omegaverse premise. I'm excited to see where it goes from here with Priya's story.

Not a huge RH fan but I actually liked this one. It's my first book by this author and I'm definitely digging this author's writing. The only thing I really didn't care for was the guys' sex pasts being mentioned a lot (mainly Nate) but whatever, the heroine gets four guys to herself it almost makes up for it 🤷

A 'Don't read in public-you might wet your seat!' danger sign should be on this book cover!

4.5 STARS!
And that is because I'm holding half a star back due to what I think was a too anti-climatic end fight with our main bad guy - Oswald.

I am a huuuuge fan of - and her 'Controllers' Series is one of my absolute favourites Omegaverse of all time.

This author always brings her A-Game, and her world building and writing is a pleasure to read. Her books are easy to read, without feeling too simple. The content is always thrilling and I never feel like there is "too much info/description". All in all - she does a fab job of giving us perfect pages filled with heartwarming, sexy, panty wetting content. She is truly one of my favs.

Now, I was lucky enough to get my ARC copy of before release by being an ARC reader, but my review is completely my own personal views on the book. :)

Prey is set in the Omegaverse and is a 'Reverse Harem' book, though the ending teases us with more, and in good ole Lane style, she leaves us with easter eggs during the book, which opens up for more books to follow ( I hope!). This is a F/M/M/M/M book (yes, that many!) - and the Omega is the female. <3 Which is great, because that is my favourite - though my introduction to reading a book containing a Male Omega was also one of hers - which is called - check it out if you haven't!

Belle is a poor Omega with a strong will, a strong mind, and refuses to give up. She's also full of love and those she gives her heart to - will count themselves blessed by the Goddess herself.
Belle lives alone on her rickety farm and is trying to survive, but sadly that isn't going too well due to more bad luck than Friday 13.

Being part of the Imperial Guard, the brothers Silas, Dax & Nate are on a mission to track down the main bad guy in our story - Oswald. He's quite the character - the little we know of him, and his men are little more than savaged beasts battering the countryside, raping - pillaging and murdering innocent civilians. Safe to say - we are hoping our dear Alphas find him!

The world is set in sort of Medival time - that's the feeling I get. We have banquets, we have the horses, the farms, the land and that is the sort of feel I get. A medieval type of world. I really liked this - but then Lane has never been shortcoming when it comes to inventing her worlds, and this book does not share the very common trope of Dystopian world that was once riddled with some form of illness or virus to make the new Dynamics. Not that I don't like that - but it's always nice with a change. :)

This book does not have Alphaholes, there is discipline (spanking, belting) - but none of the main Alphas in this book are abusing Belle.

There is, however, a few trigger scenes, one is some torture - and this being Omegaverse, we do touch on dubious consent or what I like to call "you might be saying no, but I can change your mind" type.
So if you are not a big fan of these categories - this book might not be for you. :)

I mentioned at the beginning of this review - that I give it 4,5 stars and the half is missing because of the main big fight in the end. This is simply because I felt it was a bit rushed, I felt like we didn't really get to see or meet Oswald at all - we only heard about him from start to finish - we met his men, and there were some really super fighting scenes (Lane do these very well in all her books!) where I am def. being pulled into the story and feel as if I'm a part of it.

But... I felt that the end was too anti-climatic compared to all the buildup I felt it had. Harsh, but that's just how I feel.

Apart from that this book is jaw-dropping sexy and you might blush in this very sexy menage - our brother's def. put a nice spin on gang bang. ;)

All in all - this is a great addition to the Omegaverse world and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the universe!

DNF

Update: 05/06/23

The fact the author had to put an "explanation" at the beginning of the book blurb to explain her characters and their abysmal lack of nuance is hilarious to me. If your book blurb requires information regarding the word building and character motivations then you did not meet the assignment.

Original review:

Was this written by a man?

I dont know what was worse. Lack of consent (even within a noncon/dubcon context), physical abuse that was everything but "hot", the toxic masculinity...the list is long

Edit: 28/04/2022

After sitting on this for another day. It didn't age well in my mind at all.

The book did stay with me in the past 2 days and as someone who very regularly dips into dark romance and who is not phased by monsters, sci-fi and fantasy settings etc. why did I react so strongly to this?

It is not the spanking, it is not the possessiveness or the rather instinctual approach of the MCs towards the FMC. It is just...very badly done.

These characters had no nuance nor the charisma. They where just very flat and almost just there to tick of a list of attributes to get this PWP story of the ground. (spoiler it did not get off the ground, it dug its own grave)

Yes, they where Alphas and met an Omega and all parties where very interested in getting the bonding off the ground but this Omega was in hiding. Why was she in hiding? It implies she did not want to be found. Why is that? Is the world a punishing place to them? Why? Are these guys enforcers of this rather bleak society? Do they like it? Are they having issues with some aspects? What dreams and wishes do they have for themselves as a character? If finding an Omega this fantastic? Where is the appreciation for her and her designation and the happiness of having found one? Or is an omega only there to be spanked to an inch of her life, without aftercare and then just tossed on the bed in the hopes of forcing a heat?

I had so many questions and none of them where answered because there was no world building which left me with characters that I did not understand who then proceeded to do certain actions which as many other reviewers on here pointed out just very very problematic.

This is my first book by this author and I sure am glad that I finally got the pleasure. The writing was refreshingly smooth, straight to the point, and there's a well-balanced feel to it: the male characters are distinctly different from each other (pretty important in RH, where they sometimes all look the same), there's action, a little bit of background, there's smut (seriously hot smutt), and it's also kind of a primitive road trip.

The omega, Belle, is offly sassy, enough to keep the alphas busy, and the alphas are epic: dominant, forceful, animalistic...so delicious!!! I loved them all, my favorite was the most brutish of them all, Dax, and I felt like perhaps he didn't get so much attention as the others did, specially Nat (the younger, naughtier one), who was terribly wicked and fun but I have a weak spot for burly behemoths *grin*.

There's a lot of smex, so be prepared for a lot of body fluids, the scenes are wildly erotic (which is not always the case in erotic romance) with that edge of animalistic sensuality so belonging to this genre.

The only thing I disliked was that the heroine is described as "skin and bones", so it made me feel a little bit off with regards to her being a figure representing fertility and sensuality; sorry but I can't visualize it, I keep feeling like she's going to faint at any given time due to fluid loss or too much rough, vigorous sex with more than one huge alpha...I also keep imagining myself feeding her a sandwich or a stew to make her stronger. Such fragility in my mind clashes with the idea I have of what an omega should be like, but that is my personal pet peeve.

I would highly recommend this author to those readers who love the omegaverse, I will be looking forward to reading more of her work.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Deliciously indulgent, naughty, and unapologetic. This is a hot ride of a story, for sure. I love the unique aspect of adding a wolf shifter to the Omegaverse. He blends so smoothly into the 'pack' of Alphas that it feels completely natural (he's actually my favorite boi, but don't tell the others :X). These tough-as-nails Alphas always do what needs to be done, but once they meet Belle, they realize sometimes that involves making allowances and exceptions they might not have before, and it's so, so sweet to watch that transformation. One thing they don't skimp on? Sexy punishment time. Believe me, she encourages it by being a brat, and boy does she love it (so do I) when they deliver. It's a lighter read than the Controller's Series, but so totally different that there really isn't a way to compare them. I love L.V. Lane's Omegaverse, and this is just another fun adventure that you need to take with this author!

Ok so... I thought this was going to be a romance with some sauciness here and there. The author did not build up the characters enough for them to be considered “good guys. This book is so misogynistic it’s unreal. And to make these guys look good, they bring similar men that do the same thing, but these men “smell different and unsafe...... what??

“Dax is hung... it’s only fair Nate enjoy her tightness before Dax ruins it. There’s still her ass to enjoy once we’ve bred it.

A penis is not going to ruin anyone’s “tightness. I’m sorry to break it to men, but you’re dinky is not that spectacular that it is going to change a woman’s anatomy.

Now I definitely love dark romances and rough sex in books. This was just poorly thrown together and instead of them being these “dark protectors as the author intended, they’re moreso rapey than anything else.
Continuing, I also love books where the heroine is passed between people, but for the most part she is cherished, unless it’s a dark romance in which case it’s genre is labeled dark romance.
She is treated mediocrely in this book.

I absolutely agree with a review I read, this book sounds like it was written by a man for men. The Omega just wants to be used, and when she’s crying and begging them to stop because she’s in pain, they see this as “let’s keep going and then she just wants to keep going. ???? What?

I also think their should be a TW because while the author may think this sex is consensual, even while writing “we need to force her, this is not and should be labeled as such.

DNF, 50%. I tried to stick it out but absolutely could not.

Don't let the cover fool you this book is half smut in all the best possible ways. I'm usually not of fan of BDSM because it's so often done wrong without the right amount of discussion and aftercare. So this type of Omegaverse where the Omega needs to be disciplined typically doesn't appeal to me, but the author did a really good job and I ended up loving this book.

Honestly, if I hadn't read the warning and known what I was getting into before I read this book I might not have enjoyed it as much. But after reading this...

I found myself enticed by the book's description and forged ahead. Knowing ahead of time what to expect from a book that might normally be outside of your safe zone helps immensely so I'm grateful the Publisher added that note.

While being a smutty fun book, it also has a good storyline to go along with it. It takes place in a Fantasy Omegaverse world that has a medieval-esc time era to it. I'm not a huge history buff nor do I read a lot of historical novels so I'm not the best judge of this, but I think most history lovers would probably find fault with some of the mannerisms. I mean they're not speaking Old English but I think the author did a decent job of leaving most modern slang out of the story, but there are a few places where history lovers would be annoyed.

The FMC is a rare Omega whose father moved her away from any major towns to live on an isolated farm to give her a chance to grow up without being claimed by Alphas. Sadly, her Father passed away and she's been doing a horrible job of attempting to keep the farm running on her own.

Three brothers who are Imperial Guards on the hunt for criminals in the area happen upon her and naturally claim the sweet omega. But thier good men who love and care for her and it makes the otherwise dark story very fluffy.

However, those criminals won't stop just because the Gurards have an Omega to claim and end up bringing murder and mayhem to the storyline. Once the Omega is claimed and through her first heat we learn that there is a 4th brother who runs thier family estate back home. The brothers plan to bring the Omega home and by law, the 4th brother has the right to claim the sweet Omega like his brothers did. This relationship brings a bit of anticipation to an otherwise fast-burn novel.

Despite the supposed medium-dark level this story claimed to be, it ended up being the perfect calm-down book for me to read after enduring the angst of , a very dramatic and dark romance. I enjoyed it and look forward to trying more books in this Novel Sequence (I think that's the correct term for a series of free-standing stories that share a common theme/book world?).

Reverse harem omegaverse horror. DNF at 24%. Lots of people explained it better than me but I’ll put in my two cents anyways.

They come in the house and claim the omega and there’s not the least bit of attraction just.. Lust. How is it even possible to write lusty scenes without the characters being attracted to each other ?

Also, there’s this thing they do. They ‘discipline the heroine with a belt but it’s not a sex game (though it leads to sex). And they say that it’s for her own good *vomit*. I can stand lots of things, but I can’t stand the love-interest who literally acts like the heroine’s parent and does a bad job too. It actually triggered me and you’ll see the same thing happen with Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley. I have a thing about overbearing, controlling people.

Some more stuff that made me nauseous :

- Silas talks about having autonomy over “her care, discipline and fucking rights (as in a person would need to “yield to [him] if he wants access to Belle so I guess that makes him her pimp ?
- Yes, spare the pigs Belle loves only to get laid but you can butcher them afterwards. Because she doesn’t matter. In a book that’s about her. I’m having the hardest time liking these dudes. Correction, I hate them.

I guess that the whole omega/alpha thing is just not a trope that I like. I like shifter books, and I like alpha men (be it a shifter or whatever), but I guess I don't like the concept of an omega? I don't know. This is the second book that I read about an omega and both of them disgusted me.

The whole "heat" thing kinda grosses me out, and then we have a lot of dubcon? I use that term for lack of a better one. Can a chick really give consent if she is triggered to go into heat and doesn't really realize what's going on?

I don't know. I guess these books are just not for me.

I absolutely loved this story. Couldn’t put it down. A fresh take in the omegaverse by adding the RH twist but this was so much more than that. Fantastic world building, witty dialogue and plenty of action. Throw in chemistry test might just melt your kindle and I was one happy reader! I hope we get a book for Priya very soon.

Definitely recommend.

I liked the omegaverse but the author decided to make Belle a redhead instead of a brunette, very upsetting. There is a lot of brunette erasure of actual historical figures but now they are also doing it with beloved fairy tale, fictional characters.

3.5 stars - This is an one verryyy omegaverse. No plot just abo reverse harem content. I liked it - it’s what i needed to help with my plot heavy book that I’m reading right now. Knotting and purring etc- very primal omegaverse. It’s good!

Omegaverse / MMMMF

No world-building.
Lots of typos.
One dimensional characters.

Hot AF though. Something about those Alpha's growling has my ovaries ready to explode. 😊

I'm gonna stop here.
It had potential but as soon as the men show up the woman turns into just a f#ck hole for them that they like to abuse first.

So this is an omegaverse where its sort of further back in time, there’s a historical romance kind of feel to some of the dialogue and thoughts of the characters.
But then there’s also that classic omega ‘discipline that’s prevalent in a lot of dystopian omegaverses.
Plus basically a mating of convenience kind of thing..
I don’t know.
It’s not bad and I got a good way in and liked it enough.
I’m just not really connecting to the characters and the rest of the book isn’t enough to make up for it.
Everything is pretty surface level. No deep conversations, no really getting to know each other, and at this point we might be adding another guy to the mix and I’m just not into it.
So I set it down to see if I’d want to come back, which was dumb because I know myself and I hardly ever come back. 🤷🏻‍♀

Lots of sex, excitement and discipline! Fun read!

This takes place in an Omegaverse where alpha males rule and omega female are prized. I've read a few stories in this world by different authors and they all have a similar theme....3 classes made up of Alpha males, Omega females and Betas males and females (the middle class). But each author has a slightly different take on how their own omegaverse works.

In this story, a reverse harem, the alphas are human with a half brother who is a shape shifter (wolf). All alphas are part of the kings guard and serve him until they find and claim an Omega mate. The omega female is on her own since her father's death, struggling to survive on a remote farm where her father had taken her to live after she had "presented" (as omega) to keep her safe. (Alphas can claim any Omega and as there are few of them, they are fought over.)

The alpha brothers come across the omega as they are searching for an alpha gone rogue and is working for an enemy race against the king and his people. As typical, the alphas both take care of her and discipline her, but she comes to love her alphas.

There's a LOT of sex and disciplining... several times over her forgetting to put on shoes. I get the first time because she walked barefoot where there was much broken glass...and put herself in danger of being injured; but I think they over did the shoe thing a bit. To make up for it, there is a lot of excitement and harrowing scenes as they are attacked several times by the rogue alpha and his cohorts before he is ultimately captured. The rest of the story revolves around her developing relationship with the 3 alpha brothers and the addition of a fourth brother who was not so well liked by the others, as they all learn to share.

If you like a lot of no holds barred, multiple partner sex with some excitement and violence (during the attacks) thrown in...go for it. It wasn't so much an emotionally moving story as it was a sensual, fun and exciting one.

I generally like ABO and the dynamics authors explore within this area. However, this wasn’t it. This was just straight abuse, maybe it turns around later on, but I don’t care enough to find out.

The males treat her like garbage, like some infant or pet that is unable (or supposed) to have a single thought in her brain. Personally, I have very little tolerance for spankings especially when belts or other objects are added, but I don’t mind over looking it. It was impossible for me to over look the constant use of a belt in this because she was getting “disciplined for the stupidest things. Questioning strange men? Belt. Goes outside barefoot? Belt. Being concerned over the treatment of pigs that she made sure were more well fed than herself? Belt. Not wanting to part with those animals after already being ripped from the only home she’s ever known? Belt.

Her thoughts or feelings were never considered. She was not treated like a person and honestly most of her beatings stemmed from the men already mad and she dared open her mouth. They were taking their anger out on her which is not a punishment for disobeying. That’s abuse.

My new favorite book by this author.
I'm a huge fan of omegaverse/shifter cross-over books. There's something about pack dynamics and omegaverse dynamics that mesh so well in my mind. This book has the added element of a wonderful fantasy/fairy-tale feel to the world-building that made a classic omegaverse, rags-to-riches story feel fresh and unique.
I loved the growth and development of all of the characters, but Nate's evolution is incredibly moving. From a barely-tolerated, outcast half-breed, Nate finds love and acceptance. He's put in roles that he finds initially uncomfortable, but he makes them his own. I just loved reading the growth of the relationship between Nate and his brothers and Nate and their omega. Unbelievably heartwarming.
Highly recommended.

4 smutty stars

Color me surprised that I actually really enjoyed this. Omega verse books are such a tossup for me, but this one hit that sweet spot of D/s and smut. Make no mistake: read this for the smut and not for the romance. It’s non stop sexy times with these characters and usually that can get old fast, but this author managed to keep it fresh the entire way through.

Recommend to anyone who wants some smutty cognitive dissonance.

Safety:
Heroine is a virgin
Hero’s (3 H’s in the first half, 4 in the second half) don’t have sex with OW after meeting Heroine
Spanking, D/s, anal
