“Life is more or less a lie, but then again, that's exactly the way we want it to be.”

“And by the way, you clearly don't know me better than Fang does. Do you see Fang arguing with me? No, you do not.”
James Patterson, Fang

“You can help each other, Max, said the unwelcome voice. You're perfect complements to each other.
"Shut up!" I hissed under my breath, and Dylan looked startled.
"I didn't say anything."
Gritting my teeth, I nodded. "No, I know. It's just-" I decided to take a risk and stare him down. "I hear voices, okay? If you're gonna be here, get used to it. Or else keep your distance.”
James Patterson, Fang

James Patterson
“Yeah, you're sitting in a tree because you're fine. That's easy to see. I can't believe this is Maximum Ride, destroyer of despots, warrior hottie, leader of the flock! All you need now to make yourself more pathetic is a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream!”
James Patterson, Angel

“Just between you and me and the lamppost, Dylan could easily be any girl's perfect other half. If I didn't already have a perfect other half, I might have been thrilled with the gift of my very own gorgeous mutant.”

Dylan Moran
“And I'm not saying it's a bad song, you know, or anything like that. All I'm saying is that if you get, I don't know, a broom, say, and dip it in some brake fluid, put the other end up my arse, stick me on a trampoline in a moving lift, and I would write a better song on the walls. That's all I'm saying.”
Dylan Moran

Bob Dylan
“they say every man needs protection, they say every man must fall.
yet I swear I see my reflection, some place high above this wall.....and someday I shall be released.”

Bob Dylan
“I had no songs in my repertoire for commercial radio anyway. Songs about debauched bootleggers, mothers that drowned their own children, Cadillacs that only got five miles to the gallon, floods, union hall fires, darkness and cadavers at the bottom of rivers weren't for radiophiles. There was nothing easygoing about the folk songs I sang. They weren't friendly or ripe with mellowness. They didn't come gently to the shore. I guess you could say they weren't commercial.

Not only that, my style was too erratic and hard to pigeonhole for the radio, and songs, to me, were more important that just light entertainment. They were my preceptor and guide into some altered consciousness of reality, some different republic, some liberated republic. Greil Marcus, the music historian, would some thirty years later call it "the invisible republic."

Whatever the case, it wasn't that I was anti-popular culture or anything and I had no ambitions to stir things up. i just thought of popular culture as lame as hell and a big trick. It was like the unbroken sea of frost that lay outside the window and you had to have awkward footgear to walk on it.

I didn't know what age of history we were in nor what the truth of it was. Nobody bothered with that. If you told the truth, that was all well and good and if you told the un-truth, well, that's still well and good. Folk songs taught me that.”
Bob Dylan, Chronicles, Volume One

“I'm proud of you, Bliss," he said.
"Michael's sword released the souls that were trapped in your blood. You freed them. You freed me."
"But now I'm never going to see you again, am I?" she asked.
Dylan smiled. "It's unlikely. But I never say never.'
"I wish you wouldn't go. I'll miss you so much," Bliss said.
"I'll miss you too."
Dylan put his hand up, and so did Bliss. But this time, instead of touching air, she felt his warm hand grasping her cold one. She looked at Allegra. Somehow, she knew her mother was making this happen. Dylan leaned down, and she could feel his lips, soft and inviting, gently kissing hers. Then Dylan was gone. But Bliss did not feel anguished. She felt at peace. Dylan was not broken and incomplete anymore. He was whole.”
Melissa de la Cruz, The Van Alen Legacy

James Patterson
“I RAISED AN EYEBROW AT HIM, AND HE STUCK OUT HIS TONGUE AND CROSSED HIS EYES WHEN JOSH TURNED AWAY FROM US TO GET THE FLYERS. IT WAS SUCH A DORKY MOVE THAT I SHOULD HAVE FELT SORRY FOR HIM, BUT IT WAS GENUINELY...CUTE”

“Dylan, while he is in the shower and he and Joss are only seperated by the curtain and his invisibility:

Dylan: "Maybe if you would come in here and scrub my back it would speed things up."

Joss: "I'm not invisible."

Dylan: "I know this.”
Susan Bischoff, Heroes 'Til Curfew

Bob Dylan
“Dostoevsky, too, had lived a dismal and hard life. The czar sent him to a prison camp in Siberia in 1849. Dostoevsky was accused of writing socialist propaganda. He was eventually pardoned and wrote stories to ward off his creditors. Just like in the early '70s I wrote albums to ward off mine.”
Bob Dylan, Chronicles, Volume One

“You're my singularity," she said simply, watching as the confusion on his face slowly cleared, bit by bit, inch by inch, until he was staring at her like someone he saw for the first time, only to subconsciously realize that he'd already seen her, time and time and time again. "You're my 'here', you're my 'now', but you are also my 'infinite'. If I believed in reincarnation or alternate realities, then I know that every single version of me will love every single version of you, with very single fiber of all my beings. Because that's just who you are to me. I don't know why, I don't know how. You just are.”

“The sound of a rumbling Harley wasn鈥檛 anything out of the ordinary around Ellsberg. This bike roared its engine once, twice, again and again as if attempting to gain someone鈥檚 attention. Or challenge a person to a fight maybe.
A frowning Aaron looked outside and his expression darkened. 鈥淚t鈥檚 your fuckwad stepbrother.鈥
My stomach flipped and I backed away from the door as if I might run. Returning to sanity, I sighed. 鈥淗ow would he know?鈥
鈥淚 don鈥檛 know. I鈥檒l tell him to fuck off.鈥 Aaron walked onto the porch and Dylan turned of the Harley.
I watched Dylan stop at the front fence where he glared at Aaron. 鈥淚 know Lark鈥檚 here. She needs to come home.鈥
鈥淔uck off,鈥 Aaron said, keeping his promise to tell Dylan just that.”

“Stumbling to my feet, I glanced at my mom who still sat at the table. She looked at me then Larry then lowered her gaze and returned to her coupons. The logical choice for me was to run from the house. I was so much smaller than these three battling men and the smart thing was to run. Yet, Larry and his bullshit family were why Raven left. They were always telling me what to do and making me feel like shit. Now, he鈥檇 hit me and I wasn鈥檛 running.
Grabbing a chair from the table, I swung it at Glenn and hit him at the back of the neck. As he went flying forward, the bastard tripped over Dylan and toppled hard to the ground.
Before I could celebrate, Larry ripped the chair out of my hand then came at me. I backed away and grabbed one of the millions of bear figurines. Throwing it at him, I nailed Larry in the chest with the first one. The second one caught him over the eye, leaving a gash.
As Larry chased me around the room, I grabbed more bears and flung them over my shoulders at him. While most missed, a few made contact and he finally hollered in frustration.
Having recovered from the blow, Glenn tried to block me in. However, Dylan shoved the older man outside then locked the door. Unfortunately for Glenn, Larry鈥檚 stupid fluffy dog hated him and proceeded to attack his leg.
鈥淒ylan, this is your last chance,鈥 Larry said, his face red and blood dripping down his face. 鈥淕ive me that girl or you鈥檙e done.鈥
鈥淔uck you. I was done the minute you put your fucking hand on her.鈥
Watching the two men glare at one another, I exchanged the bears in my hands for heavier ones. 鈥淚鈥檓 leaving,鈥 I said more to Mom than Larry. 鈥淚f anyone messes with me, I鈥檓 cracking their heads open with Picnic Bear.”

“Nice hammer,鈥 Harlow said from behind me.
鈥淗ey,鈥 I said, glancing around casually to see if Winnie was with her. 鈥淣ice shiner.鈥
鈥淵ou should see the other chick,鈥 she muttered. 鈥淐an we talk?鈥
Setting down my hammer, I followed her away from the other guys. Harlow seemed tense and I worried something was wrong with Winnie.
鈥淭his is awkward and I feel weird coming here like this,鈥 she said, pushing her blonde hair behind her ears. 鈥淎re you dating anyone?鈥
My breath caught. A fear rose up in my chest at the thought of Harlow wanting to date me. What would that mean for me and Winnie? The look in Harlow鈥檚 eyes calmed my terror. I might as well have been a brick wall based on the lack of attraction she showed.
鈥淣辞.鈥
鈥淪ome girl was hugging you outside a restaurant. Wasn鈥檛 that a date?鈥
Frowning, I scratched at my jaw where I forgot to shave that morning. 鈥淭hat was a girl from high school. She might have been into me, but we went out as friends. I鈥檓 not dating anyone.鈥
鈥淲innie saw you with that girl and she got really upset. I know she鈥檚 not ready to have a boyfriend, but she wants you. Do you want her?鈥
Playing it cool might be the stud move, but I didn鈥檛 want to be a player. I wanted Winnie. Besides, for the second time in twenty four hours, someone close to Winnie wanted to play matchmaker. 鈥渊别蝉.鈥
Harlow nodded. 鈥淪he鈥檚 messed up. You know that, right?鈥
鈥淚 know she鈥檚 fragile, yeah.鈥
鈥淲innie has a lot of phobias. Not stupid shit for attention, but real chronic problems that won鈥檛 go away because you鈥檙e hot. She鈥檚 been in therapy for years and gotten stronger, but she鈥檒l never be okay.鈥
鈥淚 understand.鈥
Harlow bit her lip then nodded again. 鈥淒o you want to take her out to dinner tomorrow?鈥
鈥渊别蝉.鈥
Harlow smiled. 鈥淵ou better be chattier than that on the date or else no one will say anything. Winnie likely won鈥檛 say anything all night, but that doesn鈥檛 mean she doesn鈥檛 want to. She just takes a long time to warm up to people.鈥
I wasn鈥檛 sure what Harlow saw on my face, but she grinned. 鈥淪he really wants to warm up to you, Dylan. Don鈥檛 fuck it up, okay?鈥
鈥淚鈥檒l do my best.鈥
When Harlow narrowed her eyes, I was pretty sure she might hit me. 鈥淚 appreciate the way you tried to save us that day. You showed balls and I respect that. With that said, you better be taking this seriously, understand?鈥
Leaning closer, I stared right into those suspicious eyes. 鈥淣o one makes me feel like Winnie. If she needs to take it slow, we鈥檒l go slow. If she wants to rush into it, we鈥檒l rush. If she needs me to stand on my fucking head and sing the National Anthem, I鈥檒l do it. So yes, I鈥檓 taking this very seriously,鈥 I said, running a hand where short dark stubble took the place of my mohawk. 鈥淚 told Winnie I would wait and I meant it. What you think is me being passive is just patience.鈥
鈥淥kay,鈥 Harlow said softly. 鈥淵ou know when I came to Ellsberg, I was pretty messed up. My family was dead and I was in this new place with strangers. Winnie took care of me. She became my sister and best friend. I love her like she鈥檚 blood. Nothing personal, but if you hurt her, I鈥檒l have to kill you.鈥
鈥淔air enough,鈥 I said, grinning.
鈥淪mile all you want, buddy, but I鈥檝e got moves.鈥
Harlow faked a punch, but I didn鈥檛 flinch. My mind was already focused on tomorrow. I hadn鈥檛 talked to Winnie since the day Nick鈥檚 dad showed up. I hadn鈥檛 seen her close up in weeks. I needed to be close to her even if she couldn鈥檛 do more than hide behind her hair all night.”

“Tucker finally parked next to me. We joined Cooper who stared at a hawk flying over the woods.
鈥淚鈥檝e had my eye on you since the Devils came to town,鈥 Cooper said, glancing at me. 鈥淚gnore the romantic vibe to that statement.鈥
Tucker snorted in amusement, but Cooper ignored him and continued, 鈥淭he rest of the guys at the worksite hid when the Devils showed up. You decided to take on armed bikers with a fucking hammer. How you didn鈥檛 end up in the ground I鈥檒l never know, but it made me think you have the kind of balls a man needs to run with guys like these two.鈥
Cooper opened the door where Vaughn and Judd stood in a one room cabin.”
