I didn't love this one as much as I loved the first book in the series...but...I'm like a fat man at a burrito stand with this series you guys, and I just don't care.
I said this for book one, but I will reiterate again here, since it still rings true...
The plot a complete hot mess. The drama WAAAAAAAAAAY over the top. And there are many things here people will find problematic.
But, again, the possessive mafia alpha-hole is just my JAM right now....more

I have a feeling this will be one of those series that I end up re-reading over and over and again and which quickly becomes a favorite. In fact, I think I might be feeling that way over everything I have read by this author so far - which is a lot, since I've been basically bingeing her backlist.
Anyway, as I said for book one, this is definitely satisfying my seemingly unquenchable need for all things mafia romance. I loved Rai and Kyle was delicious.
This was okay and I wanted to like it more...but the whole thing was super rushed and the relationship superficial. Very insta-love and under2.5 Stars

Le sigh.
I just can't seem to make this series work me. I want it so bad. Maybe too bad lol. I've said after books two and three that I wouldn't continue...and yet here we are.

I have no idea why. I've been so in the mood for some mafia awesomeness the last couple months and these feel thisclose to being great. But, alas, I think I am calling it quits on this series - for REAL this time.
I have no interest in the blurb for the next book and the book after that sounds like a rehashing of the first 1-4 books from idiotic Aria's perspective - no thanks.
HOWEVER. I have heard good things about the The Camorra Chronicles . So maybe those will have whatever these seem to be missing for me.
Which was a bummer on many levels - and surprised me because I loved Warrior's Prisoner by2 - 2.5 Stars
This was a very mediocre bodyguard trope book.
Which was a bummer on many levels - and surprised me because I loved Warrior's Prisoner by the same author.
This thing had a TON of potential, folks.
The bodyguard character in this book was a hottie alpha with mad military badass skills. So badass in fact that I was even willing to overlook his use of the word "darling."

Side Note:
Unless I'm reading a historical romance book, I just do NOT want to hear the H use the word "Darling."
Ever.
In fact, it's up there with my complete and utter disdain for the word, "Honey."
(For the backstory on my hate affair with the word honey, see THIS review and THIS review...and I'll just throw THIS review in here too, solely because it's probably one of my favorite reviews ever.)
But anyway.
End side note.
As I was saying, this book had SO much potential; but sadly, I felt like the romance portion took a backseat to...other shit. And I felt like what WAS there was...meh.
Also, the h - who was pretty seasonable and seemingly semi-intelligent throughout the majority of the book - decided to suddenly have a TSTL moment that defied ALL TSTL moments in the history of ever.
But, I guess the author decided she needed yet another hostage situation and having the h act the fool was the only way to accomplish said goal.
Something that also bothered me for some reason - it usually doesn't - was all of the grammatical issues in this book. Incorrect uses of "was" and "were" as well as other issues abounded.
Basically, someone needs an editor who can differentiate between the subject of a sentence and the object of a sentence.
But - as I said - I'm not usually an asshole in this area, but sometimes my English degree asserts itself in confusing and wondrous ways. What can I say. There is no rhyme to my reason, people.
Anyway, that's really all I have to say. Plus, one of my dogs is barking nonstop in the background here and the washing machine just signaled "done," so I'm off to be domestic.

What an excellent read. Truly fucking excellent.
I am very late to the Dartmoor party and there are so many other detailed and amazing reviews on this; and I'm not pretentious enough to think that I have any original commentary or thoughts to add, so I will keep this short.
I LOVE books like this.
Books where the connection between the H and the h stand the test of time and (sometimes) distance....where the story has nuanced details that draw you in and make you feel like you are a thread that's part of a larger, multilayered tapestry.
Where you feel like Morgan Freeman is fucking narrating it from the bowels of some Hollywood sound booth.

This was like an MC Club War and Peace in terms of length and span.
In other words?
It was long as hell.

Could this thing have been a LOT shorter? Sure.
Can I think if some scenes, moments, or descriptions of antique lamps that could have been taken out to make this behemoth more streamlined? Absolutely.
Would I want that to happen?
FUCK no.
I would worry that editing out any perceived chaff from this book might result in the negation of some nuance or detail that added to the depth of the characters. The depth of the story.
And I just loved everything about it. The characters, the world, the club, the writing... EVERYTHING.
Do yourself a favor and read it if you haven't already....more
