I really enjoyed this. Whether it's because it was that good or because I'm just a sucker for this kind of trope and very into Romantasy again right now is anyone's guess.
Some things weren't as fleshed out as they could have been...The relationship in general. But they had great chemistry and that's always a win for me. I also thought the ending was lackluster. And I actually didn't care for...how things turned out?
But I really enjoyed this overall. The pacing was great. I was entertained for sure....more

I'm not in a reviewing mood, but I wanted to get something up here before I completely forget everything about this book. So off we go.
I went into this pretty much blind as this was one from my small friend book group. I was expecting an Under the Tuscan Sun-ish vibe, not that I've actually read that book, mind you. But I did see the movie...
Anynotthesamebutohwell, that's the vibe I was expecting. You get what I mean.
So color me surprised when the whole magical (?) paranormal (?) element came about. It wasn't bad and I didn't dislike it or anything, I just found it to be a bit jarring since it was so unexpected.
I found the main character's enmeshment with her mother to be fairly interesting. The idea that she was the love of her life. The way losing her affected her. I enjoyed how her seeing her mother as a PERSON and not just her mother evolved.
I also felt bad for the husband...cause, I mean...
I enjoyed the hotelier more as a character, but still.
And that said, I thought the ending was abrupt and I felt like there were some loose feeling ends...but otherwise a nice pool read for sure....more

Original Review:
5++++ Fucking Awesome Irish Mafia Sequel Stars
Holy fecking Christ, people.
For those of you who are unaware of this series, this book is the sequel to this awesome book.
As you can see, I lurved it.
Now, nine times out of ten, a sequel to a book I lurved ends of being, well....
It always seems like the first one is just SO fucking awesome...
...it's like a drug.
But then you crack open book two and soon realize...
However, such was NOT the case here.
Because a strong white crystalline central nervous system stimulant this was indeed.
And I adored every moment of this thing.
As I said about book one, this book was "Val Perfect," meaning that it had ALL the ingredients I LURVE....AND pulled it off to boot.
Those ingredients, again, being:
1) Mafia - IRISH in this case.
Now (again)...I'm not sure how legit the slang, culture and all that jazz was depicted here, but...
2) Super hot Irish Mafia Alpha Male...who is the perfect possessive asshole - with a side of some SERIOUS emotional...glitches...
Again...
Now, I'm not sure if AZ was trying to establish Ronan as being on the spectrum or if he simply just had troubles connecting to his emotions based on his upbringing, but again...
3) A rational, mature heroine who was trying to get through some super heavy shit...who - again - I didn't want to punch in the face the entire time.
Again...let's celebrate.
I really, REALLY liked Sasha.
It seems that in books like these, we either get saddled with a TSTL idiot...
A TSTL idiot who thinks she's a badass...
...but isn't.
Or the stubborn one who thinks she is "helping..."
...but is really just a) making things more difficult for the H and/or b) basically handing herself over to the bad guy.
4) H/h have a previously established "connection," but are working out some of the...kinks.
It was obvious in book one that there was something going on between Sasha and Ronan, but we weren't completely sure what.
And in this book we get the answers to all of those questions, and more.
5) Some - more -cool actions scenes.
Which, again, weren't perfect.
But again...
6) A continued sense of "brotherhood" between Ronan, Lachlan, Rory, and Conor.
This never gets old...and snuggles.
7) A supporting cast of characters, including new potential couples, that make me WANT to read about more.
STAT.

Hellooooooo Rory and Scarlett!
But what I loved most of all?
Again:
You can tell that the author did her homework.
I've said this before, and I will say this again.
And again.
SO many times it seems, authors want to write about something they know nothing about...
e.g., sports, NCAA athletics, gangs, prisons, law enforcement, the mafia, the justice system...
...and you can tell that they didn't do their due research diligence or just plainly decided to "wing it," leaving the story feeling cheesy and shallow.
OR, they decide to go SO overboard on the violence, etc., that it ends up being a convoluted mess of things that would never, EVER happen.
But not so here.
Again, I felt that the author really fleshed things out and "stayed in her lane" - aka didn't make things so fantastical and violent in the quest to make them "seem real" that they just end up feeling ridiculous.
But she also didn't err on the side of caution in the way that some authors do in an effort to not make her supposedly tough characters dislikeable to some readers. (Looking at you...as much as I love you.)
In my opinion, this was - again - just the prefect blend of...well, everything I like lol...
In fact, I think I even like this more than I liked book one, because...well, Ronan......more

After reading a less than thrilling erotic romance about a berserker yesterday afternoon, I was moved to come back and re-read a really excellent romance about a berserker last night...and so here we are.
I apparently never did a proper review on this as I read it many years before goodreads even existed. I'll just say that if you like old school highlander romance with a bit of a paranormal element thrown in, then this book (and series in general) might strike your fancy. ...more
