Mimi, Nicole’s grandmother, needed help and she didn’t know that Atticus and Nicole have been divorced for 3 years. Neither have stopped loving each other, but they needed time, therapy, and learn to forgive each other from past mistakes. Their road to reconciliation was slow and painful, forcing the reader to feel the anguish, the anger, the longing, the jealousy, and the warmth of love. From not speaking to each other, to helping Mimi for 2 weeks where they reconnected enough to try again, the emotional journey had a satisfying payoff. The characters were all flawed, but relatable. The second chance romance was slow but did the pining burn! Atticus still referred to Nicole as “my wife even though they’ve been divorced for 3 years. Nicole had to grow to accept certain things and own her part in their initial breakup, but she couldn’t move on from him. There was no for Atticus but Nicole, and vice versa. The audiobook was gorgeously performed. Angelina Rocca and Sebastian York brought a vulnerability and emotion that highlighted Penelope Ward’s emotional story. ...more

Anne and Zac hooked up in a drunken moment after her best friend and his wife died. He said something that forced Anne to leave Wyoming for 6 years. Zac’s late wife and son who had tragically died haunted both Anne and Zac. She came back to town as an ER physician and she sees Zac for the first time as one of her patients. He didn’t remember that night, so he didn’t understand why Anne was afraid of him. Once he learns about what happened, he does everything in his power to help Anne, not as a sort of apology and that he wanted her and missed her. While Anne and Zac were getting to know each other again and exorcising old ghosts, a serial rapist was terrorizing around the small Wyoming region.
Be aware there is an attempted rape on page. The suspense plot interesting and the romance between Anne and Zac was good. Anne felt like a weak character, but she wasn’t. She had social anxiety, fear of conflicts, and didn’t hold grudges. Zac was a genuinely good guy, who once he remembered what he did, he made an effort to make it right was Anne. She could have made him beg more, but that wouldn’t have been true to her characterization. I did not guess the villain and how the suspense plot unfolded made sense. Even though Cyclone had a rough beginning, I enjoyed the story and was ultimately rooting for Zac and Anne by the end....more

Payton did not swoon or cry, and could captain a ship just as good if not better than her brothers. Connor Drake worked for her family’s shipping company, and was another son to Payton’s dad. Payton, however, has loved him since she was 14 years. He is a new baronet after his brother died suddenly. Connor was going marry another woman, but Payton saw her with a known enemy. Connor and his fiancee leaves for the Caribbean. Payton and her brothers go after them to protect Connor! Payton is a strong heroine who did whatever she could to save Connor from the villains. There were pirates who did piratey things! Kidnapping, deserted islands, and all of the swashbuckling goodness that I love in a historical pirate romance. The romance and action were fantastic. I loved the characters and setting. Not a five star, because of a decision the heroine made at the end. But I did read this within an afternoon. I couldn’t put it down!...more
