I mean Mickey is not the brightest, but at least he is trying not to get everyone killed for sure whereas everyone else is just like I want to shoot things so who cares if we all die? It was really annoying and if I were Speakers people I would not trust the humans. ...more

I loved both Selah and Dex and they were perfect together. Selah who lost her father over a year ago and is still trying to figure out how to be without him. She was very close with him, they both loved flying and she is trying to fulfill his dreams now that he is gone. She is sticking around to help her father's business get back on track and then plans on heading on to other things. She loves flying hot air balloons, but she has a plan.
Dex is all alone and a bit lonely. He has a girlfriend at the beginning of the book who he proposes to, but it wasn't right. It was never that - he just wanted someone to be with and who would care about him. His parents were not the most loving so he is a bit lost.
When these two met they were super cute together. They just go together and I loved it. I loved watching them figure everything out and how things got resolved. This is the first from this author I have read, but it definitely won't be the last!...more
I was expecting so much more from this story. It was...okay I guess, but it wasn't creepy at all and the writing **spoiler alert** 2.5 rounded up to 3
I was expecting so much more from this story. It was...okay I guess, but it wasn't creepy at all and the writing wasn't the best. I kept being told that things were creepy, but the writing wasn't conveying the spooky feelings. It was more telling than feeling. I wanted a creepy atmosphere but every time something was supposed to be it didn't work. Things just happened, the characters were not the best and it was a meh book overall.
Kendall moves to a new neighborhood where her college best friend lives and everyone loves Flip and Blair. Which okay, but it was weird how long it takes for Kendall to question things. I really expected the vitamin water to be a bigger deal, but how they tried to force Kendall to drink alcohol would have been enough to make them people I don't trust at all. You don't do that. There were reveals later in the book about Flip and Blair which I don't know if they were supposed to be shocking, but they came off as just okay and? But that was the whole book basically.
Now eventually Kendall's sister comes to visit and immediately disappears with Flip and Blair and then Kendall is just like I must save her! Which sure, but like have a plan? Especially when you know what is going on with them. How can you save her if you cannot control your actions? Maybe don't just charge in without thinking about it? Ugh. But then again Flip and Blair seem to be inconsistent with their powers.
Like I don't really understand the grumpy neighbors and why they were allowed to be so awful to everyone for so long. Like why didn't Flip and Blair take care of them before? Or mind control them into not being so horrible? I just didn't get it. The grumps come to their parties so they are partaking in all the things so...why were they still grumps? Especially when they complained about Flip and Blair.
The ending of the book was also super eye-rollingly convenient and just wraps up too nicely. Overall not the book for me. I finished it, but I also could have used that time for something else.

Only...our main character that we follow through the book was really boring. She seemed to just float along and never really cared about anything until one moment, but even then she didn't really try hard to change the future she saw. She kind of did, but she also just accepts things still that will happen if things are changed. I didn't work for me. The whole story was pretty boring to read which is a shame as I loved the idea. I wanted to know more about the world and how things worked. I do think the 2 or so chapters before the last were so much better. They had a much better pacing and I couldn't wait to see what happened, but then the ending was disappointing and those few good pages were not worth reading though the rest.
Of note most of the negative reviews I have seen don't like that there are no quotation marks or indication of spoken words, but I didn't mind that. For me it wasn't difficult to discern, but your milage may vary. But if you are not enjoying this one for whatever reason I don't suggest reading to the end. It is not worth it. This probably would have been much better as a short story rather than a full length book. ...more

Yes, it starts off right after the last book, but I learned what I needed to know to enjoy this one. I gotta say I don't really know why I enjoy these books so much as on paper they don't seem like they would be for me, but I do. I am not that big of a Greek gods fan, I don't really know who they are besides their names, but I love seeing them fall in love. And I'm enjoying the overarching story as well.
This is the story of Icarus and Poseidon. Icarus who is held captive by Poseidon. It was so much fun. I really enjoyed the interactions between these two. How they both saw the other person for who they are and how good they both are. Poseidon is a great example to Icarus of how you can lead by something other than fear. That there are good people who have power even if they are rare. I can't really say much else without spoiling things, but if you enjoyed the other books in this series you will probably enjoy this one. It was so much fun and I am looking forward to what comes next.

I really didn't like either main character, there was no chemistry, things just suddenly happened or were resolves in a sentence, it wasn't good. I really didn't like either main character, there was no chemistry, things just suddenly happened or were resolves in a sentence, it wasn't good. ...more
