Didn't read the book but did see the movie.

The colour scheme of the movie drove me to distraction. It was subtle at first, then its subtlety became a gigantic jackhammer pounding on my head yelling LOOK HOW SUBTLE THIS IS. Everything is fawn-coloured, many many shades of beige and brown, nothing primary, pastels as far as the eye can see, and this is interiors and exteriors both, the weather is always overcast and misty or autumnal, blue skies or yellow suns all abolished, and all of this serves as a visualisation of the REPRESSED EMOTIONS of the poor wee clones whose bathetic fates we follow.

Ian "Marvin" Graye Occasionally the tone of the book escalates from resigned to naively hopeful.

Velvetink oh god NOT BEIGE

Carolanne I think beige is a good adjective to describe the book, as well. while I enjoyed the book for the most part, it just kinda slithered along in a very monotone and beige way.

Paul Bryant Beige does not inspire.

Kathy You dodged a bullet (by not reading the book).

Paul Bryant I think so!

Suzy Maybe moviemakers see "Ishiguro" and think tamped down . . . think Remains of the Day also.

Abe LOOK HOW SUBTLE THIS IS
Boy, that phrase got me

Kristi Krumnow Bummer. I'm listening to the book. I'll listen for beige-ness. 😉

message 11: by Juni (new) - rated it 5 stars

Juni Hilliard This is a review of the cinematography of a movie and says nothing about the book. Why did you even bother?

Lo Perhaps Rotten Tomatoes is a better place for this review. Instead you're conflating a movie you've seen with a book you haven't read.
