This book should’ve been right up my alley - I loved The Broken Girls and I typically LOVE spooky thrillers that have paranormal vibes, but it took me days to finish this book which usually doesn’t happen for thrillers and I just didn’t care about these characters.
I felt like a lot of the story was really repetitive because we follow Viv in the 1980’s and then her niece Carly in 2017, and it was kind of hard to tell their chapters apart. I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style because something would happen and be revealed in Vivians chapters and then we would read about Carly discovering everything we had just read about in a previous chapter and it’s like you’re just waiting for her to catch up because you already know and because of that some of this book dragged.
I started skimming after the 200 page mark because I was losing interest but the ending definitely redeemed itself, and there were two good plot twists that I didn’t see coming, so the book definitely gets credit for that, but this thriller was just okay for me. I didn’t love it the same way I loved The Broken Girls, which is sad but oh well.

I'll be reading this in February, hope I enjoy it and don't end up hating the characters.

Oh no. I love Simone St James. I liked The Haunting of Maddy Clare. I have high hopes for Sun Down Motel.
Oh no. We usually have same rating on everything. I picked this for my BOTM pick.
I'm still hoping to give this a shot when it comes out. I'll keep my expectations lower then normal, but I'm still excited.

Thank you for the review. I recently dropped a book with a similar problem (jumping between now and ten years back just to repeat what we just found out) Called The Holdout. Just started this one and already it's doing the same thing!

I agree with your review. Carly and Viv felt like the same person, and I kept getting their storylines confused. It was just okay, and I felt myself putting it down a lot
I'm only a few chapters in and I'm going to DNF it. Everything's so convenient, already the two characters have been allowed to stay two places for free.
I’m reading ‘The Broken Girls� right now and getting the same feeling. Lots of repetition which annoys and confuses my ADD brain. I really want to read ‘Sun Down� because of the great reviews but, should I? I need an honest opinion. Struggling with this one.
I had literally the exact same reaction to reading this. It felt like it could've been a short story.
Your review is spot on and I 100% agree! So much repetition, and personally, I thought the voices of Viv and Carly were too similar, so I’d also find myself wondering “wait, who’s story am I on?�
I said the exact same thing. Was so repetitive with switching between Viv and Carly. I actually wasn't surprised by much in the end and anything that did come out of nowhere just didn't fit to me.
Same here. It starts to feel like a drag. Normally I finish a book like this in 2 - 3 days but it’s a month now and wondering if I should finish it
