How was this book so good? I didn’t went into it with the highest expectations, although I’ve seen some great reviews from people whose reviews I trust, but I ended up being mindblown.

This book follows Avery Grams and she finds out that this eccentric old man, Tobias Hawthorne, has left all his fortune to her. But things aren’t that simple. The Hawthornes are pretty mad. One of his grandsons, Grayson think she is a con women that trick his grandfather in giving her all her fortune, but Jameson thinks that she is his grandfather’s last mystery.


In the blurb this book is compared to Knives Out and One of Us is Lying and I agree but also disagree. The Knives Out comparison, yeah I could see that through out the book and I really like that movie so I like seeing something similar in book form, although this lacked the humor that movie had (but I’m not mad about that since that wouldn’t have fit the book that well). But the One of Us is Lying, I don’t get it. This book is so so much better than OoUiL and I do not appreciate that comparison.


I really liked the plot of this book and the only thing I could think about during the day was that I needed to read more of this as soon as I got home from school. The plot is extremely fast paced and I was never bored. I was invested from page one and I needed answers.


And how dare the author end the book like that?! I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER FOR BOOK 2 *cries* this is just painful. I WANT ANSWERS!



I loved the characters which was surprising. I always have a hard time connecting with characters in murder mystery books, but in here I just love the so much.


Avery
“You’re the glass ballerina- or the knife.��

Avery was an interesting main character to follow. She is extremely smart and I love seeing her working together with the Hawthornes brothers to solve the mystery as to why she is there.


Jameson
I just loved him. He is an amazing character and I loved seeing him interacting with Avery, but I also really like seeing him with his family and the relationship he had with them.


Grayson
Another character I just love. He is more mysterious than Jameson is, mostly because he doesn’t interact as much with Avery as Jameson and also doesn’t trust her as much as his brother. It was interesting seeing the way he was dealing with the whole situation and I want to see mire of him in the next book.

Xander
I really liked his character, but I’m a bit suspicious about him. Can we really trust him?


Nash
He is one of the only characters, I didn’t like. I just don’t trust him. There’s just something extremely suspicious about him and I cannot put my finger on what.


I really loved the mystery in this book. The were so many things happening and foreshadowing and I just love how the author managed to write it. There was something that happened in the end that I expected. It was hinted so much through out the book, that it was just inevitable.



The ending reveal felt a bit underwhelming. Not much, but I just found it very strange and I was like Really? That’s it? There’s really nothing more? I’m hoping that we will have some maybe more plot twists regarding this reveal in the Hawthorne Legacy.


This was an amazing mystery book and if you are just getting into this genre I highly recommend you give this a try. But regardless of that, I still recommend you pick it up as it’s an excellent book.
