If you go to npr.org, you can read about it. Our local NPR station here in GA offers me the opportunity to hear classical music from other countries - Poland, Sweden, etc. For that alone, I give it a listen.

American public radio broadcasts (specific mix depends on particular station) mostly news (such as NPR), classical, jazz, and folk music.
NPR used to be my favorite radio station when I was living in the U.S. -- except for the local classic rock stations, the only one I spent considerable time listening to, in fact!Great, in-depth programming on everything from news to literature, science, history and ... car repair! :)

For book geeks, the best show is "Fresh Air" with Terry Gross. She often has in-depth interviews with authors about newly released books.
Yes -- a fair share of the books I voted for on this list I actually became aware of on that show. And I still like to listen to it now, albeit only on the internet!
