*Edit: One person just spoiled one of the last events in this book for pretty much everyone on the FB fan page (15,000+ total members) who saw it. Beneath the post are over 200 comments of pissed people. I saw this and was SO glad I had already read the book because I would have seen this and lost my shit. It's not a particularly huge spoiler, but it's somewhat significant. Either way, I wish people in general would be more conscious about spoilers. I can tell you all that I personally do my best in my reviews and ESPECIALLY my status updates (since GR doesn't even let you cover spoilers in those like WTF) to avoid spoilers. I absolutely hate being spoiled, and I would hate it even more to be the one who spoils someone. I know we all know this, but I'm going to say it anyway: it's common courtesy to cover any spoilers you mention or at least make an obvious warning that someone is about to tread into spoilery territory. Please make it a regular habit to do so. Thank you :)

If you still hate Chaol after having read this book, then you should probably see a doctor and get a heart transplant surgery because YOU AIN'T GOT NO HEART! And that's a serious condition that you should prooooobably get checked out............because I care about your well-being.

PSA: If you really don't like Chaol and think you can skip this book...........yeeeahhh NO! This book is SO not the original novella SJM was going for. This is a full-fledged novel with the whole shebang! YOU MUST READ THIS AS IT PRESENTS SERIOUSLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW!!!! You should like him after this book anyway, but in the case that you have the previously mentioned condition, you need to brave this book.

Also you should know that this book isn't actually centered on Chaol. It's written in three perspectives: Chaol, Yrene, and Nesryn.

I used to complain about Chaol. I never hated him. I just didn't ship him with Celaena. And then he kind of acted immature and I was like "eh".

But guys the sheer emotional maturation of Chaol throughout this book is phenomenal!
If you don't remember, there was an incident in Queen of Shadows, which I will not specify so I don't accidentally spoil anyone. That incident lead to certain physical limitations that sent him and Nesryn to Antica, where the most powerful healers in the world are to be found studying in the Torre Cesme.
A big part of this book was following his physical and emotional journey to overcome these limitations. All I can say without spoiling you is that I really think Sarah's portrayal of disabilities in the book is very well thought out! REED DA BUK!!

I also really love how SJM is able to introduce like ten new characters and give each one personality, dimension, and relevance! It's not hard to keep up with who's who even though there are like a million people!

The royal family in Antica is so refreshing from the usual cut and dry shitty-ass violent royal family.

Yrene is SUCH an amazing character I ADORE HER SO MUCH!!!!
If anyone is concerned about the intimacy in this book (since SJM's sex scene are usually pretty cringy as we all know), worry not! It's WAAAAYYYY toned down in this book. It's not nearly as graphic.

Sartaq is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Nesryn developed more as a character in this book which was really nice!

In my mind, the Ruks look like hippogriffs.......is that weird?

Hafizah reminds me of the grandma from Moana lol

Also, I feel like I forgot how powerful Rowan actually is until they mentioned it in this book.

a) Wait for the last book to come out NEXT YEAR!
b) Survive this book when it does come out.
