7 pages of glee made me grab my pogo stick!
Magical realism and I usually aren’t buds, but I raise my hand and yell EXCEPTION! EXCEPTION! This little story utterly wowed me. It’s about a woman who keeps finding things in her pockets, starting with a piece of fudge, and then lipstick. The writing is brilliant, the story funny and profound, the imagination out of this world. It moves fast like a river, thoughts all sparkly and sharp. I would give it 6 stars if I could. It took only ten minutes to read, but I'll remember it for years.
The last two paragraphs just about took my breath away and I’ve read them three times already. It’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m so excited, I’ll never get to sleep.
Thanks to Cheri for leading me to this gem. I’ll be Googling this author, I’ll tell you that.
Here's the link to the free story:
P.S. This story reminded me of one of my favorite books (magical realism, no less): The Daydreamer by Ian McEwan. Well, not the story, actually, but my reaction to it. Also one to check out.

Thanks, Cecily! I just added How to Lose the Time War. I'm dying to read it but have a lot of NG and EW obligations, so it will be awhile.
Ah, I have so much trouble with understanding the difference between fantasy and magical realism! And then there's the plain old sci-fi. Would you call this fantasy or sci-fi?

Thanks, Cheri, and thanks for leading me to it! Glad you see the connection to The Daydreamer--the stories are so different but there's a common theme of scrumptious imagination.

Thanks, Anne. Totally clever that you're sending me a scone. Oops, just found it. You're the best! How did you know I loved blueberry? And you must have just taken it out of the oven. Now I have a hot pocket. Hope it doesn't melt the lipstick.

You're welcome. Knew you'd love it. I want all my buds to read it, just to get euphoric recall, if nothing else!

Thanks, Laysee. And thank you for starting this chain--or that you were a link that got it to Cheri!

You're welcome. Hope you read it--anxious to know what you think of it!

Thanks, Jennifer. Hope you get to read it soon; would like to hear whether you liked it.

The revelation was just genius!
Thank you for nudging me in its direction. : )

Ha, nudging you? More like bossing you around, lol. BUT I couldn’t be happier that you loved this little story, too! I’m now on at least my fifth reread of those brilliant last two paragraphs. They blow my mind!

Thanks, Kimber! This one will not disappoint! And it’s just a 10-minute read. How can that much goodness come from just 10 minutes?!

Thanks, Sandy. Oh, man, is the fan club growing. So cool!

Thank you, Kathleen. Glad you loved it, too!

Short stories can seldom be explanatory or feel complete but 4 stars are high praise from me in this format. I will take a peek at "The Daydreamer". It is unsurprising in our circle that I have heard of Ian McEwan. I believe he is normally an adult author. Sincerely, Carolyn (lest you forget that is what "C" is for".
P.S. Would someone send me a scone, please? Any flavour will do, as long as it is the homemade kind unavailable in stores. I love that our own imaginations are out, in the style of "The Lake House" with Sandra Bullock and Canada's fine Keeanu Reeves.

Thanks, Carolyn, for your thoughtful comment. I want a scone right now, too! Yes, please check out "The Daydreamer." You won't be sorry. This is his only "children lit" book, but I say it's for adults, too.
Good questions! Did the violinist just eat the fudge? I would have, lol!
(Personally, I wouldn't class this as magical realism, but that's not to say you're wrong to do so.)
