Alice Feeney may have fooled me with her last two books, but I saw through her Daisy Darker shenanigans.
Not only did I spot one of the major twists around the 50-page mark, but I also named the culprit very early on and worked out most of the ins and outs of the locked-room part of the mystery. Sometimes I don’t mind when this happens, other times I do. This time, I minded.
But I stayed with the book for two reasons:
1. Undeniably, the demise of the Darker Family is compelling to read on the page. Feeney knows how to tell a murderous, entertaining tale.
2. My solution to the puzzle was so ridiculous that I had to know if Feeney would really go there. (The short answer yes. Yes, she did.) And it’s not just the whodunit that’s absurd. The whydunit isn’t any better.
My rant ends here, though. There’s not much else I can say for fear of spoilers.
Three stars for Daisy Darker. I’m feeling generous.

Thank you, Kat! I'm glad you agree. I liked it too because it kept me reading ... but c'mon, Feeney. Too OTT for me! :)

Thanks, Sujoya! Yeah, this one definitely isn't a favorite of mine, either. Feeney went too far this time around. :)

It might work for you, Terrie! Every book hits every reader differently, after all. Good luck! :)

Ha! She sure did, didn't she? Thanks, Holly! And I hope her newest is a hit, too. :)

I can see why, Kendall. I'm starting to feel like Feeney may end up being hit or miss with me, too. We'll see how I do with her next book. ;)

Aww. Thanks, Catherine! You came to my mind when I finished it yesterday, and I thought, "Catherine isn't going to like my review." 😂

Thanks so much, Michelle. Yes, I remember your disappointment and your one-star review. I can understand why. :)

I'm not giving up on her, Barbara! No worries. I plan to read her next book, and I still want to hit her back catalog, too. :)

I hope it's a good read for you, Bec. Thank you! :)

Oh no ... not her greatest twist ... not at all. Thanks, Derek! :)

Thank you, Pink! The whydunit gets me every time, too. :)

I'm glad, Sheyla! Thank you. :)

Aww. ..."
On the contrary, I ALWAYS enjoy your reviews, friend!! 😊

Aww. Thanks, Catherine! :)

Thanks, Jen! And I agree. Feeney needs to come back strong with her next one. :)
