I gave this book its second star only because it made me laugh...unintentionally, I believe. How else should I read this:
His grip on his temper slipped. “Like hell we are. You spied on me and falsely accused me of murder. Then you instigated that kiss—
“What? she said indignantly. “You’re the one who started it.
“You licked your damned lip in invitation!
And then not picture this:
description

There were actually a few scenes that left me in stitches. But seriously, what's with all the lip licking these days, anyway?

I've DNF'ed a few books lately, so I was determined to read this through. Well, at least I had a couple of laughs. But, oh man, rarely have I come across a more unlikable couple with Emma Kent and Alaric McLoed. Especially, Alaric! I mean, hey, how can I not fall in love with a hero who shags his mistress in the second chapter whilst thinking of Emma, our heroine. That's the only way he can shag his mistress, by the way, because - you know - his mistress isn't Emma.
“Yes, ram me with your big cock! Moaning, Clara ground against him, meeting his thrusts. “I’m going to spend— What would Miss Kent be like in her crisis? Would she beg for her release? More likely than not the little termagant would demand it. Well, if she was a good lass, he would give it to her. He saw her big brown eyes melting with desire, heard her breathless voice chanting his name as he drilled himself inside her snug sheath, deeper and deeper still, taking what was his, what she’d never given to any man before ...
Very tastefully done...NOT!. Of course, Alaric is a tortured, wronged and overall completely misunderstood man. Have I also mentioned that he's a whiny, moany bitch, wallowing in self-pity for most of the book and treating everybody like shit? No? Well, now I have.

Now, to Emma. Emma, our heroine, our strong, willful, feisty heroine...or should I say, our 'I-want-to-smash-her-head-against-the-wall'-heroine, wants to be a detective in her brother's agency, because she's good at talking to female suspects/witnesses and her intuition is spot on. This is Regency Era, by the way, in case we've forgotten that we're talking about a Historical Romance. Now, I've given other - equally anachronistic - books five stars. What's the difference? Laziness. The plot, the characterisation, the prose. All lazy, boring and predictable. At least the other books were well written, had lovable characters or simply...something. Here we have Emma who is so one-dimensional that her outbursts of self-righteousness are truly hilarious. And I mean it! She's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Kidding! That's an understatement. Sometimes I was just simply floored by her stupidity. This is her reaction when Alaric tells her that someone's tried to poison him:
She blinked. “You were poisoned too? But you’re ... not dead.
Sigh!

I soldiered on! I prayed, begged, almost cried for anything faintly redeemable in Emma and Alaric. Nope, didn't happen. What did happen were some unintentionally funny, 'steamy' sex scenes.
She knew him well enough now to recognize the stillness of the predator the moment before the strike.
Yet she couldn’t resist saying, “Pester you? I’m trying to communicate with you that’s what people do when they’re courting. How will we know if we’re suited if we can’t carry on a normal conversation?
“You want us to communicate? She gave an emphatic nod. “Bend over my desk.
“PDz?
“I believe I was quite clear. His eyes gleamed with challenge. “Face my desk and place your hands there. Do not move them unless I give you leave to do so.
And there I was laughing again. The second star was well earned!

I have way too many books to read to keep re-reading this one, but I freaking love it, so I do it anyways :) I never left a detailed review for this one, so I am going to do that now.... This was the first book I read by Grace Callaway, and she is an auto-buy for me as a result of this book (and most of the books in this series!).

Alaric, the Duke of Strathaven, is equal parts handsome, wicked, and jaded. He participates in affairs with married women as he prefers experienced partners and zero entanglements as he has no heart to give. At an early age, he was treated terribly by his uncle, the former Duke of Strathaven, and told he was a complete disappointment despite all of his efforts to prove himself. He has no time for innocents, especially the one who believes him responsible for the death of his most recent unhappily married lover.

Emma Kent grew up in a loving country household as the eldest sister of a brood of children that she suddenly became responsible for upon the passing of her father. Her elder half-brother, a very principled former London inspector, stepped in to the extent possible by supporting the family financially, and when he married a very wealthy woman (in a love match --- oh the scandal!), the family was brought to London and thrown into polite society woefully unprepared for that type of lifestyle, especially the independent and moralistic Emma. As she strolls through the gardens to escape a boring party, her innocent ears pick up on what she believes to be a man threatening a woman (to tie her up and let him have his way with her!) -- when she approaches and realizes it is the Duke of Strathaven, she is bound and determined to report him to the authorities regardless of his societal standing. Though she is dissuaded by the woman, she still has concerns, and when she learns that the woman she believed to be in danger died under mysterious circumstances in the presence of Strathaven, she is convinced he is responsible. Strathaven attempts many times to convince her otherwise, and finally resorts to snatching her off the streets and showing her what his actual plans were by taking her to an exclusive club for those with certain proclivities that involve bondage and role playing. A shocked Emma is both turned on by these activities to her dismay, but she also decides to do her utmost to clear the duke's name as she feels responsible for making him a suspect. As they work together to find out who is responsible, the stakes become higher - not only with respect to their safety, but also their hearts. Is Alaric capable of love? Will Emma accept him even if he isn't?

What I liked:
--- The synopsis above covers some basics, but the plot is so much more intricate with twists and turns, complicated family relationships, and suspense throughout
--- Oh the steamy goodness!
--- Emma is the kind of heroine I love --- she is bold, principled, and doesn't care about the societal rules
--- Alaric tries so hard to keep her out, but there is definitely a swoon-worthy hero lurking beneath that tough exterior

What I didn't like as much:
--- Honestly, I can't think of anything --- this book is AMAZING

Overall, this is one of my all-time favorite books as it has everything I adore in a good historical romance: complex characters, an epic love story, steamy goodness, a wonderfully intricate plot, and, of course, a satisfying HEA! This book is often FREE, so if you see that it is, snatch it up immediately - you will thank me later :)

Plot --- 5/5
Main Characters --- 4.5/5
Supporting Cast --- 4.5/5
Steam Level* --- 4/5
Violence --- nothing graphic
Language --- not egregious
POV --- 3rd

(*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild; 2/5 - sensual but nothing descriptive; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere; 4/5 - yes please! ; 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all)

The beginning of this romance was so fun, especially with how the main characters met. I loved how our heroine wanted to be an investigator and was throwing herself into things women usually weren’t allowed to. I do think the second half of the books slowed down for me and I wasn’t as into the story, but the romance was definitely spicy and a lot of fun!

I bought this book years ago. I read about 50pgs and then put it away. I didn't like the H. After reading two friend's reviews, I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did! I ended up loving it.

The H was emotionally wounded, making him a very cold man. It was hard to like him. What won me over was his protectiveness/possivness over the h. It's funny, cause I would have hated those traits in real life but find it romantic in books. That was the only way he new how to show his love. Dominance being the big word!

I figured out the mystery pretty early on but still enjoyed reading how it unfolded. The author was able to balance both romance and mystery well.

Warning!! This book is a lot steamier than your average hr. I enjoyed it but some people might not.

Conclusion: a slow beginning turns into a very good story. I highly recommend!

I wish I had never read it. Sex scenes with other woman is my biggest hate and after the hero has met the h. And of course he is thinking about heroine while he does it. Just say NO! I wish I had been warned. I skimmed the rest. Thank Goodness it was free and the OW died right after they did the deed. She was gross anyway. I won't read this author again I don't think. I am traumatized. The rest of the book is trying to find the skank's murderer. Honestly the scene was brief but disgustingly me . I should add a star but I won't.

The Rake and the Bossy-Boots…who knew too much

I started The Duke Who Knew Too Much and I thought my reading slump was ongoing and I might even have to give up on it. But I girded my loins, squinted my eyes for a couple of chapters and persevered. THANK GOODNESS! I really enjoyed this story and after those initial chapters where I was less than impressed by the hero, I got to know him and his wicked ways a bit better and fell in love.

It has been a long time since I’ve read an erotic historical romance and this one left me very satisfied. I am a huge fan of steamy romances that have a decent story as well. In this case, we have a murder mystery to solve and a broken hero who just needs to find the right woman to love. I absolutely loved the dynamics between Alaric and Emma.

Alaric is a cold and heartless rake who takes advantage of his position in society to find his bed partners. He is frank with the women he has affairs with, in his expectations and his desires, but they always seem to want more. We, unfortunately, must witness him in fine form (with someone besides the heroine) which shows exactly how he obtained his reputation as a cold and heartless rake. It’s obvious that he’s scared to put his heart on the line and only a strong and determined lass will be able to win him, heart and soul.

Emma has overseen her family and their needs since she was 13 years old. This has made her a wee bit of a bossy boots with an opinion on everything. Unfortunately, these traits are not considered flattering for a young lady in want of a husband. Luckily, Emma’s not that keen on finding a husband because she’s not that keen on having someone tell her what to do. Then she meets a man and he’s all about telling her what to do…and for some strange reason, she likes it.

The storyline, once I got past my first hesitations, was enthralling. The characters were interesting, and I loved the family dynamics in the Kent family. The sexy times were HOT! The start of Emma’s ‘education, while a little too in her face and risqué, had my heart racing. I did work out who were the baddies fairly easily, but ‘watching it all play out was still captivating.

This was not my first Grace Callaway steamy historical romance and it will definitely not be my last.

Broody Alaric McLeod, Duke of Strathaven tricked once by a so-called innocent is more than wary of Emma Kent, a women who accuses him of a crime he did not commit. Emma is an independent country miss who like her brother believes in justice, and she is determined to be a female investigator, if only she can persuade her brother.

When Emma realises she is wrong about the Duke of Strathaven she is determined to right her wrong and prove his innocence. Alaric is surprised and deep down happy to hear a women admit she was wrong, but he is not pleased with the idea of Emma investigating his case, but Emma is resolute. Initially Alaric is less than delighted by the desire that rushes through his blood each time Emma is near, until he finally gives in, but his past still impacts his present and Emma will need to fight for their HEA.

Some nice steam, smut in this, although not going to lie there were small moments where the wording/phrasing had me unintentionally laughing a tad when I shouldn't have been. I liked the heat between Alaric and Emma, although I do wish there had been a smidge more relationship development. I enjoyed the fact that Emma whilst a virgin, wasn't positioned as a simpering miss.

One thing I truly disliked

Again the Kent family were a good addition to each scene they popped up in.

Very enjoyable in the beginning. Some moments of farce, but by the 45% mark, it does get predictable. Everyone loves each other and the villains are obvious and offer minor twists and revelations. More explicit dirty talk than what I expect in a Regency written like this, but no complaints. Just an observation. The dirty talk is hot!

I like Grace Callaway’s writing style. Rake with BDSM inclinations (very garden-variety) and confident “older heroine (she’s in her mid to late twenties).

I’ll continue reading her stories, hoping I find one I fall in love with 100%. I noticed that in this book I loved the first half. In another book I read by her, the beginning was a lil predictable but the ending half I loved.

The Duke Who Knew Too Much blends Regency romance, mystery and kink–a formula that I expect will intrigue a lot of readers (especially those looking for more erotic historicals). There are a lot of things going on in this book–a lot but the author weaves them all together well. The only thing that really irked me was the hero’s insistence that he’s incapable of feels, mostly because I’m sick of emotionally constipated dukes.

I guess that was the only thing that bothered me about this book, and honestly it wasn’t that Alaric wasn’t an interesting or fully fleshed-out character. I’m just tired of reading about heroes (especially dukes for some reason) who have some past pain that makes them think they can’t ever have a relationship again. A lot of people have shitty childhoods or bad former relationships, they don’t all wander around the moors brooding and screaming “Cathy! while pulling at their hair. For one thing there aren’t enough moors for that, and for another you can be an engaging and interesting hero without being emotionally broken in some way. Maybe I resent the implication that having bad past relationships makes one incapable of having good futures ones (or believing that one can).

The Duke Who Knew Too Much is lightly kinky, in line with Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt. There’s some roleplaying, voyeurism and light dominance/submission. Even though Emma is a virgin, the sexual dynamic between her and Alaric works well. This is not Fifty Shades of Grey. Alaric doesn’t need to tenderly take Emma’s virginity before they can “fuck hard. She’s also no doe-eyed innocent staring blankly at him while he thinks about dom jeans and putting ginger in her butt (there is no ginger nor butt-play in this book). Both partners are aware of what’s going on and consent, enthusiastically, to all of it. Emma fully embraces that this is the type of relationship she’s looking for even though she hasn’t had any other sexual partners.

One minor complaint–the characters use the word frig instead of fuck. Five seconds with Google told me that this was historically accurate but it sounded weird in my head as I read it.

There’s a lot happening in this book–there’s romance, mystery, a sexual awakening, the story of two estranged brothers reuniting, and a sadness cave. It’s a lot to pack into a single romance but I think the story made it work. I appreciated that the sex in the story was a little more adventurous that I typically find in Regencies and I liked the mystery element immensely. In some ways I was disappointed that Alaric wasn’t actually Batman, although I’m sure that would be some serious copyright infringement. His brooding was irritating, but I fully admit to being a little overwhelmed by all the emotionally damaged dukes out there. Maybe these guys should form a support group.

Anyway, readers looking for a good historical mystery/romance or a historical with a little more kink will enjoy The Duke Who Knew Too Much. This is also the first book in a series–I know many of your credit cards just winced a little.

1.5ish

First off, the title of the book has nothing to do with the story. If anything, the duke didn't know enough since this book revolved around a mystery.

Secondly, if you're not a fan of heroes having sex with another woman, then this book is not for you. This occurs one and a half times (early) in the book after he meets the heroine.

Thirdly, this is my fifth book by Grace Callaway but only the second book I've managed to finish reading. I like her books for the hot and steamy intimate scenes. However, the pacing of her stories tend to be a bit slow for me and the length unnecessarily long. Hence, why I lose interest easily and didn't finish the other three books from her Mayhem in Mayfair series. I almost didn't finish this book either, but since I bought the audiobook on sale, I felt obligated to finish it.

Coincidentally, the first book I did finish is the heroine of this book, Emma Kent's brother's book, Ambrose Kent (). I believe the Heart of Enquiry series will be about the Kent siblings. Who knew there were so many siblings!? Anyways Ambrose is a private investigator, so he along with Emma and William plays a part in solving the mystery in this book. Their wives also make appearances. William is the hero's brother and he also has his own book before this one; Book 0.5. Fortunately, you can read this book as a standalone.

The romance between the Alaric and Emma felt forced. There's no doubt that Alaric lusted after Emma and as he spent more time with her and got to know her, I can believe that he started having feelings for her. However, I think Emma mistook lust for love--she can be quite naive sometimes even though she was supposed to be intelligent. Now, unless I wasn't paying attention to the audiobook, but I don't think Emma really got to know Alaric the way he got to know her. All I remember is him making her reach orgasm (with his fingers) on several occasions and poof! She's in love with him. Yes, he does tell her about his loveless childhood and terrible first marriage, but what does she actually know about him presently? Again, I must have zoned out during these parts. lol. I do like that they waited till their wedding night to sleep with each other. I don't see that in too many HRs.

The mystery wasn't too exciting. The big reveal was a little anti-climatic probably because, by that time, I had lost interest and just wanted the book to end. I think after completing this book, I can confidently say that Grace Callaway's books are not for me. That doesn't mean I won't skim her books for those spicy scenes though. :D

I am upping my 4-star rating to 5 stars.

I re-read this book as a part of the BOTM challenge for HRBC.

Plot Summary
Difficulties are nothing new to Alaric McLeod, the Duke of Strathaven. His latest predicament, however, is proving to be a bigger thorn in his side than he anticipated, in the form of Miss Emma Kent. Falsely accused of murdering his mistress, Alaric is fighting shadows from his past, and his only salvation comes from a bunch of highly eccentric people. Emma's only ambition in life is to become an investigator in her brother's firm, and solving the Duke's case is just the ticket she needs. In this murder mystery, there is a lot to lose and a lot to find, their hearts and themselves, chief amongst them.

My Thoughts
- This was my first and it was mighty impressive. Her writing style is a smidge modern, but it works wonderfully.
- The plot was engaging and layered, a perfect blend of romance, drama, thriller and steam.
- The book was descriptive without losing its thread, and I admire that greatly as sometimes long-winded musings tend to lean towards becoming out of context.
- The pacing of the story was effective and built to something unexpected.
- The characters were unusual and flawed but the reasons for them being the way they were, were perfect. I loved the fact that no one in this story was a paragon of virtue. There is a certain believable element in broken characters which lent great weight to their development.
- Alaric was amazing. He may have come across as an arrogant ass initially, but as his story is revealed, it makes complete sense. His situation, throughout his life, has been that of "out of the frying pan and into the fire". He has known nothing but abandonment, manipulation and betrayal from his closest people, no wonder he is mistrustful and pushes people away with high handed behaviour. But at the same time, he is honest, caring and oh so sexy. Ms Callaway did justice to a complicated hero.
- Emma annoyed me at the beginning with her managing behaviour and jumping to conclusions. That changed quickly as well. She was a headstrong heroine who was not afraid to admit her mistakes and make the necessary corrections. I admired her dedication to everything (the case, her family and Alaric). She was a perfect match for Alaric. Fighting stubbornness with stubbornness.
- I love steamy HR novels, weirdly enough in this story, the steamy parts came on abruptly. A perfectly rational conversation led to entangled limbs, it felt damned disconcerting. Don't get me wrong, the steamy goodness was delicious, just not seamless.
- The supporting characters were entertaining. I missed reading Ambrose-Marianne and William-Annabell stories, which I plan to rectify soon enough. The villains were interesting as well along with their villainy.
- I loved that the murder/ thriller subplot was built nicely and was given a complete resolution. It was slightly OTT, but all it did was add a dash of the dramatic, so no complaints there.
- One tiny issue I have is the ending, it felt rushed as compared to the pacing of the rest of the story.

Side note - The title is not relevent to the story. I understand the author went with Bond/ Le Carr titles, but in this case the duke knew shockingly little.

My Recommendation
An author and the book, both worth your time and energy. Go ahead and read this series.

RE READ 10/26/21 GREAT START TO A NEW SERIES!!

What a great start to a new series. The series is about the Kent family they were introduced in Grace Callaways "Mayhem in Mayfair" series. Book 3 "Her Protectors Pleasure". They were such great characters they now have there own series.

While at Lady Buckley's ball, Emma Kent wanderers into the garden. She hears Lady Clara Osgood begging for the Strathaven to stop!! Emma believes Lady Osgood is being attacked and violated by Alaric James McLeod the Duke of Strathaven. Emma is a virginal Ms. and has no idea of sex games. A few days later Alaric wakes up in his private cabin in the woods and Lady Clara Osgood is dead. When Emma reads this in the new paper she assumes that Alaric has murder Lady Osgood and Emma goes to the Magistrates office an tells them of what she saw and heard in Lady Bucley's garden between Alaric and Lady Osgood. .Emma believes Alaric is the murderer.
After a second attempt on Alaric's life; Kent investigations gets involved in finding the real murderer. This is another good storyline by GC all the characters are written well and the plots have many twist and turns. The story is fast paced. Never a boring moment. Alaric and Emma's relationship grows as they both begin to trust and respect each other. They grown into a love match with a nice amount of sexual tension between the couple. The story keep me guessing as to what was happening in a interesting way. I almost had it figured out when I was thrown another surprising twist.

I Highly Recommend The Duke Who Knew Too Much and I can't wait for book 2 coming this summer 2015.

There was nothing really wrong with this book, but at the same time, nothing was really right. If you know what I mean.

The beginning was funny the way they met and the heroine's misunderstanding was hilarious, but then I think the hero was so full of himself while being so insecure, that it did not make a pretty combination. Which made the whole "I like to dominate" theme super weak, in my opinion.

The heroine was a mother figure by fate, having to take care of all her siblings from ge 13. Which made her a strong and extremely stubborn character, but I was okay with her.

The mystery was okay and it surprised me in the end, but I can't say I liked it.

The intimate times were way too many and too often for my tastes, and I could not grasp how she could have gotten away so often back then without being discovered or worse.

So yeah, a good enough book but nothing wow. But I might continue the series, the next hero was intriguing.

This story contained love, sex and mystery. The
story dragged in places.

Widowed Alaric (a duke) & Emma were the MCs. He
insisted on control in/ out of the bedroom, at times
bordering on obnoxiousness. He avoided innocent
women like Emma.

To a large degree the hero lived in the past, & scorned
the 2 deceased men who raised him. Hero & his half-
brother Will barely tolerated each other. He dreaded
vulnerability and love due to his insincere & faithless
1st wife. The hero compared all women to her.

Alaric came across as too cynical and brooding for my
taste. He & Emma made progress in their relationship
and then he'd shift geers and act chilly toward her. I
wanted the broody hero to take himself elsewhere and
work on a suitable grovel for his beloved. Poor Emma
never got a good grovel!

More of a 3.5. I really liked our hero and heroines chemistry and how possessive he is of our heroine despite him not realizing how much he cares for her. But the mystery and intrigue was obvious as to who was out to get him. The ending twist? Crazy. It was exaggerated and a bit too rushed.

Mystery, steam, swoon, and chemistry. Everything I've come to expect from a GC novel. I love the Kent's so much so any time I get to visit and see more of this family its always a good time. Alaric was cold and desperately needed some love and Emma was the perfect heroine for him. Emma needed someone that would go against her and show her it's okay to submit sometimes and Alaric was just the hero to do that.

Lonely H is involved in a murder, need to hire h's family to investigate. Her family excludes her thinking she too innocent. He's very attracted to her, slowly seduces her. I liked how she kept her promises to him, and she shows she can assist in solving the murder. Loved that he only trusted her.

I really liked this one!

I like how they meet, I like the murder investigation, I liked how they worked together and made compromises. I also really loved the twist ended. I was actually surprised by it!

The chemistry was very sexy and I love how it grew and progressed.

I look forward to continuing this series.

Alaric and Emma’s story was great, super entertaining with a fast pace. But I truly do not get the title. He knew about as much as most guys who get Spinster-splained haha Alaric was bosssy, grumpy, protective and a solid good guy despite his blaise attitude. Emma was a practical sort who saw a path to solve the mystery and heal her Duke’s emotional wounds. Sexy times were especially juicy 🧃🍊🍑

I cannot believe I waited this long to read Grace Callaway! I loved this book so much. I cannot wait to start reading more from her.

Tropes:
- rake/wallflower
- murder subplot
- hero persuading the heroine to marry him
- dom hero, sub heroine
- headstrong, detective heroine

This book gave me a wonderfully developed plot and romance at the same time. The balance between the gritty plot and slow-burning romance was great. The whole investigation did end up being quite confusing, but I was still having fun.

I loved how the story focused on not only the main relationship but also the relationships the MCs had with others. Alaric had to focus on his relationship with his brother and his family issues; I love watching family bonds in romances. Life and romance books are so much more than developing and fostering all kinds of relationships and this was a great example of that.

Everyone was telling me that this book had great steam and boy were they right. The steam was so good and I did not expect that kind of steam from a historical. The scene were he took her to the "special" house (iykyk) was amazing.

I was not a big fan of Emma for a good amount of the book because of her naivety but was headstrong and very dedicated to being a detective, so I loved it. I loved how she did not give up her dream of being a detective after she married Alaric.

My favorite part of the book was how it kept going after the climax. So many times in books like this, we will see the murder get solved, the heroine escape from danger, or the climax happen and then both characters are professing their undying love for each other. The next thing you know, they are married and we are at the epilogue. That is just not how life works. Both Emma and Alaric still had to work on their relationship and work past their issues. The book gave them time to develop and work through their problems realistically and honestly after the climax.

If you haven't read Grace Callaway yet and are looking for new, fresh, and unique historicals, this book is for you.

Review of the audiobook

Someone suggested that I should try Grace Calloway and mentioned this book. On Amazon, it had a high rating, but the most popular reviews complained about too much sex, too graphic, too often. One reviewer called it pornographic (it isn't). So, I said to myself, you'd better try this author. The Chirpbook audio was quite inexpensive.

I enjoyed the book more than I expected. It has interesting characters, a pretty good plot (and lots of it), and a real mystery added to the romance. And it has sex. Lots of it. Fairly graphic but not icky.

On occasion I enjoy a debauched, heartless hero, and Alaric was that, and more. Emma is a country girl plopped down in the city for a season, but she is sharp, opinionated, and honest. It was fun watching them fall in love even though each was unwilling to admit it.

I don’t know if I will read Grace Callaway again, but I do know that I will avoid books narrated by Erin Mallon. She added nothing to the story, and her frequent mispronunciations irritated me. Really, if you’re going to narrate a historical romance set in London, learn how to pronounce “Marquess.

It was steamy, but it lacked substance. Going into this,
reality was suspended, I prepped myself for a plot lacking in engagement, but even that vigilance didn’t stop me from quickly burning out and giving up hope. Even the sex scenes lacked any spark for me. I guess in my ripe old age of 35 I want MORE than wet bits and plentiful boners. Since this was borderline erotica I just wasn’t interested. I’m in a weird category of wanting steam, but not at the cost of a good plot. Meh.
