"We collide at center ice, arms around each other, cheering as the crowd chants our names and hollers our shared number. The lights are dazzling. The music is pounding. We are untouchable. We are greatness squared. And he is Calisse, he is everything I have been searching for."

Je suis triste🙃😔

Me and my elementary French didn't have much to say after I finished reading this but I guess I will write a short review now that I am not a moody bitch.

Gravity had promised me hockey and romance. It had both alright but it was not what I thought it would be.

My main issue with the book was that Tal tried so hard to be francophone and Canadian, and well as a Canadian with elementary French skills (which we have already established), this was kind of cringe to read. I did not enjoy the constant translations and could go without reading Calisse being mentioned on every other page. I do applaud Tal for doing his research on Quebecois culture and hockey as a sport, but it was a bit OTT for me. So I am sorry Tal, the book was trying so hard to be Canadian and well it did the opposite for me. Sometimes less is more.

The other issue I had with this book was the insta love aspect of it. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it works and I am here for it but after the meeting in Vegas, they were already in love with each other. I didn't understand their romance and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The beginning of the book was very promising and I loved how they gravitated toward each other but after that, it went downhill for me. The constant mon amour, mon coeur was also annoying. I know Tal is a romantic and while I loved that in his other books, it just did not work for me here.

To sum up, this book was an overall miss for me. It tried too hard to sell me that Tal knows hockey and Quebecois culture. Sorry guys, I know the majority loved it but I did not. Hope it's a better read for you than it was for me.

Snjez My French is on the same level. 😉 Sorry you didn't enjoy it more, Mila! ❤️

Imme van Gorp I’m sorry this was a miss🫤 I get why though, I felt the same!

Rielle I understand! I spent so much time translating the French that I forgot the sentiment behind the moment. I expected more from this book.

D.L. Howe Thank god for an in book translator, I never wished I spoke French more. Although I did learn some just reading this.

haha cheers to knowing elementary French 🥂

Thank you Snjez!❤️When it comes to hockey romances I get really excited because I love the sport but sadly it was not the case in this book.

Thank you Imme🤗. I am sorry it was a miss for you as well! I think I got too excited because of the hype lol

Thank you, Kati!❤️ I was really looking forward to it and welp. Sometimes it happens but that's okay, hope your next read is better!

Lau ♡ Ohh I'm so sorry you didn't quite like it. I absolutely loved the first part but found the second too slow, there was almost no progression ☹️

Thanks Lau🤗, i liked the first half too and how they got to know each other but like you i didnt like the second half😭 sorry to hear that you didnt enjoy it as much either💜

Megan [Semi-Hiatus] I was already on the fence after all the reviews mentioning the vast amounts of French, cheese and instalove but your highlights made me cringe 😬 If I read this book I’d absolutely hate it so thank you for posting them. I took this off my TBR. The quotes reminded me a lot of The Jock and that one didn’t do it for me either as it had lots of French, cheese and instalove. I think this author may just not be for me. 🤷🏻‍♀ Hope your next read is better 💗

Elisa Glendenning Sorry you didn’t like it more, Mila but great review 💕 I was so looking forward to this one but am seriously considering removing from the tbr after all the negative reviews 😞

Mila (Semi-Hiatus) @Megan thank you! 😘 I really had high hopes for this book because of the blurb and the sport being hockey but it was such a let down. I totally understand why you wanna skip this. Some authors just aren't for everyone. Sorry to hear that it maybe the case with Tal, I liked his other books I have yet to read the Jock but if it's anything like this I doubt I will like it lmao 😂 but I am happy to saved you from a cringe read 🤣❤️

Mila (Semi-Hiatus) @Elisa thank you lovely💕 I was such a moody bitch when I finished this lol it wasn't even that deep but the French and insta love was cringe couldn't deal with it 😔 I am sorry to hear you may not end up reading it but honestly your not missing much😅
