Wow. Was that even cheesier and OTT emotional than usual?

Almost half of the book the agony Bryce was feeling about his new felt desires and his failures rolling off the page and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I was torn between a bleeding heart and rolling my eyes so hart it hurt. I was relieved that Hunter was not freaking out about what was happening between them. This is romance in good old TB fashion, don’t tell me, I know. It really is every time a reading experience of opposites . On one side I’m spellbound by the plot and the beautiful, sometimes even poetic writing but on the other hand I’m annoyed by all the cheesy love declarations I’m reading that come so fast around the corner I almost couldn’t wrap my head around it - especially in this one.

What annoyed me further was that there was a lot of French in here. I don’t mind it in general as it gives you an authentic Quebec feeling and you mostly can piece together what’s been said but this was so much I had the feeling I was really missing out on Bryce’s thoughts and words.

This cannot be more than a three-star for me because in the end I didn’t care about Bryce and Hunter and their love story as I normally do about my characters.

But I loved the team - their cohesion like a family. There were no animosities between the players and their support for each other and for Bryce & Hunter was outstanding.

This is the best hockey I’ve ever played. […] This is magic by every measure, and everyone can see it.

Here we have it and it's thrilling to watch Bryce and Hunter playing together like magic. *swoon"

Iman (hiatus) ohh shoot, 2.5 stars from you :( i’m definitely not reading this! after the so called “friends to lovers ?? sorry Bryce and Hunter were meh 😣 glad you can still connect with the team and the poetic writing a little :)

Rielle It definitely felt more OTT than I thought it would, especially because of the initial “tension between the two. It was an enjoyable first half for me at least.

Nelly S. (brain fog sucks) Yikes! Sorry it was such a bust, but great review Kati💚 I know this wasn’t your intention when picking this up, but if it’s any consolation all your reviews are helping some of us steer clear of this lemon😂😂 Hope your next read more than makes up for this one!

cal ☆ girl nooo 💔💔 planning to read this probably better to set my expectations low

Megan [Semi-Hiatus] Yah after seeing the reviews for this, I think I might pass.

Kati *☆・゚ @Iman - haha yeah I know its pretty rare a rating like this. But at least there were a few things left I enjoyed so I could read until the end.

Kati *☆・゚ @Rielle - yeah I liked the first half better, too. But I also think Bryce's agony ran a little too deep considering how literally EVERYONE was totally fine with them being together in the end.

Kati *☆・゚ @Nelly - I take that as a compliment? 🤣 honestly, I have trouble believing you would like it. So yeah, better stay clear *lol

Imme van Gorp Yea.. I’m pretty much convinced that if only this would have been more of a slowburn, then this could have been a lovely book. Now the declarations of love were too fast and way too much, but the potential at the beginning was great for me. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be :(
Also, I agree that the overusage of French really was annoying. It took me out of the story every time I had to translate something🫤
I’m sorry for the miss! Let’s hope out next read is better❤️❤️

Kati *☆・゚ oh @cal, I truly didn't intend to ruin this for anyone. I stayed clear of all reviews before I finished. Esp the bad ones. But maybe if you normally like TB's purple prose you might enjoy this But also need to be very fond of an in-depth hockey experience *lol

Kati *☆・゚ @Megan - I really believe this is for all the hardcore fans of TB's purple prose. And for all hardcore hockey fans amongst them as well *lol

Kati *☆・゚ @Imme - fingers crossed for the both of us, sweetie I didn't even bother to translate. It shouldn't have been necessary to do :(( But I agree with you. Esp how it began it had the potential for a love story I would've enjoyed.

len ❀ yeah i’m actually a fan of TB’s ott and cheesy romance but i was telling my friend that i expected more of their friendship here. like even with the insta love, it feels like the characters still develop their friendship more and their attraction is kept at a steady pace but here it feels underdeveloped. i’m all for the squishy feelings that are true TB style but sadly this one isn’t working for me either. great review, kati!

Mila (Semi-Hiatus) girl I felt the same. sorry it was a miss for you too boo!❤️

Kati *☆・゚ @elena - yeah I feel the same. Something was missing, right? Pity that. it started out so good. I think I will stay away from TB's books in the future. It's not fair of me to read his books already knowing that I'm not really into his kind of romance writing. I'm it isn't working for you too :((

Kati *☆・゚ @Mila - same, girl ❤️

MarianR I agree with you about the French thing. Honestly, in the end I didn't care and I stopped translating. 😂 About the team, I don't know, I have my doubts. Because they did support it in the end, but when Bryce comes back and he's doing badly, I don't remember that they help him much, so I don't know. 🤔 Hope you enjoy your next reading! ❤️

Kerry Hmm. I've never read a TB book and after reading your review, I'm not sure that I want to start here. I especially don't like it when a book has a lot written in another language. I really really wish I spoke another language, but I don't, so I just have to skip over those parts. I never take the time to translate.

Elisa Glendenning Zut alors!!! Removing from tbr rn! Disappointing this wasn’t better for you, Kati but it seems like this has been a miss for everyone. Great review 😘

Kati *☆・゚ @Lyn - Well it all did sounded pretty promising but I guess TBs books just aren't for me. 🤷🏻‍♀

Kati *☆・゚ @Marian - mhm maybe I was reading this wrong but I think that they gave him that much space for his heartbreak and for him a lot of opportunities to fuck up his game (what is his job he gets literally millions for) only to then give up several draft picks to trade one player to the team to make it better - I would say they were quite supportive. And I further think bc Bryce never said anything about his heart's and sexual desires no one wanted to force him to out himself so that he would talk about it. You're right, it didn't seem that much supportive but I really think they were ☺️

Kati *☆・゚ @Kerry - if you're not a big fan of ott purple prose you maybe really shouldn't start with this one. His political thriller and murder suspense romance are really great plotwise imo.

Kati *☆・゚ thank you @Elisa ♥️ I was prepared for the purple prose tbh so I had pretty low expectations to begin with but that much French and that much hockey and even more love declaration than I was expecting - it just wasn't for me.

Moon ☾ I haven't read this series, but I kinda find Tal to be very repetitive. Especially if all heart-eyes and cute romantic gestures and moments so sweet, I feel like barfing. Idk if I'll ever get around to this series, especially after the "friends to lovers" troupe, and I'm really sorry it was a bummer for you, Kati. Hope you read something spicy that'll set your senses a-tingling. ;)

magic_of_darkness_and_books Sorry this didn't work out for you, Kati! Happy to see that at least you loved the team! Also, wasn't there a translation of what was said in French? I was wondering whether to read this book, and I'm still on the fence. 🤣

Cat the bookworm (semi hiatus ish) I couldn’t finish it, I stopped at 30%. A shame, because I really wanted to like it 😕

Kati *☆・゚ @Moon - I'm reading Luke and I'm not sure what to make of it rn. And as for Gravity. I don't know why this is called a friends-to-lovers tbh. They met at the All-Star-Weekend for the first time and totally had the hots for each other right away. If they both were out and proud gays already they would've hooked up that weekend for sure. So no friends to lovers. They became friends because they couldn't imagine being anything else for each other at the time.

Kati *☆・゚ @magic - right?? Normally there is the translation provided in the book and actually sometimes there was in Gravity too. But not for the majority of it. Would love to know what TB was thinking how that should work for his readers.

Kati *☆・゚ @Cat - Maybe you can like his next one again 😅 But I think I'm done with TB. I will finish The Grave Between Us some day bc this duet is awesome (I'm only struggling with the mood for murder suspense) but after that, no thank you.
